Go. Play. (DCA)

There’s a lot one can say about November Project. Some is true. Some is false. Some is all of the above. Some is none of the above. All can be revealed if you #JustShowUp. For example:

  1. Everyone at NP is SUPER fit…FALSE. I’ll be the first to admit it. I can’t do a lot of pushups. I can’t hold plank the longest. Does that stop me from coming? No. Actually, it just motivates me to work harder. November Project members range in ALL ages and ALL types of fitness. Whether you’re a 62 year old with 20 marathons under your belt or a 23 year old that’s never really worked out (besides when they forced you in gym class), you WILL fit in.
  2. Everyone at NP is SUPER happy…TRUE. WHY? Because we realize the function that this group serves. Sure, we’re getting fit and working on our blizzard bods. But knowing that people will be excited to see me (even if they don’t know me) and that we’re going to have guaranteed fun for an hour, three times a week gets me out of bed. And when I show up, it’s with a smile, because I’m lucky to have those type of people in my life…which leads me to my point:

This group is a tribe. A team. A community. A crew. GW men’s rowing demonstrated some of what that means on Monday. If you weren’t there, you missed loud cheering, meeting new people, and Ross becoming popular. Whatever you want to call this thing you’re a part of (or will be part of), it doesn’t continue to function or grow if we all show up, say hi, and then stick our headphones in while we bowl sexily together. Keep breaking out of your shell. Maybe you meet one person a week, remember their name. Cheer them on for the rest of the workout. Try it. You’ll see some incredible things start to happen in your life. Break the mold. Be a shooting star. Hey now. Be an all-star. Get your game on. Go. Play. read more

What You Missed (DCA)

NOTE: This is not to be confused with a #WeMissedYou post.

2016 is two weeks gone. There’s a lot happening around you as people drop their New Years resolutions, hole up because suddenly Old Man Winter’s temper flared (quit playing on his grass), and politicians continue to argue (if you pay attention to that stuff. Lawyers aren’t the only people that get paid to argue). read more

Unce Unce Unce (DCA)

I can now tell people that I’ve been to a rave. Sure, it may have happened at 5:30 (and then again at 6:30), no one was on drugs or drunk (that I know of), and I didn’t have to pay a $20 cover. But it still counts. Just like when it’ll count when Kaelan beats Matt Cassi in the Sunrise 6k (what’s that? keep reading). read more

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE BULLETIN (DCA)

Not trying to yell. Just need your attention. There’s a lot happening in our lives so while Kaelan finds out where the flower-patterned vest is being sold and if she can get there in time, we’ll break it down for you, right here…Step Up (To The Streets) style:

WHERE THEY AT: It’s a shame, really. The people you trust the most, falling from the highest of heights to the coldest of colds. When your friends/boyfriends/girlfriends/bestfriends decide that sleep is better than hugging you hard. When not just a single verbal but double verbals are broken. We appreciate those that have helped keep these folks accountable. THIS is the only way we get through the winter together. We’re counting on you to hold us and each other accountable. I know if I didn’t show, there’d be an uproar. People would say I’m not dedicated. That I’ve gone soft. That I spent my time practicing ribbon twirling instead of hugging friends (no offense meant to those that twirl ribbons, Chris. It’s serious work). read more

Back to the Writing Board (DCA)

We’ve had a bit of radio silence from the blogosphere lately. That ends now. Things have escalated on Instagram (pun intended), our mission to recruit Michelle Obama to a workout is stronger than ever (but not as strong as Michelle), and I passed my qualifying exams. Two of these are things you should care about. So forget about Insta and let’s focus on me. Kidding. So here’s the lowdown on what’s next for #NP_DC: read more

Spice O’ Life (DCA)

This is a simple blog. Not much going on here. Not much to read into or interpret. No deeper meaning. No inspirational stories. No heartfelt and tear jerking or twerking sagas. Read on.

One can describe this thing called November Project in many ways. Community. Fitness. Family. Friends. Respectful disturbing of the peace. Yahoos. Crazy. Crazy awesome. Life-changing. Good shit. Whatever you call it, it will spice up your life. Spice is what we call anything we throw into a workout that resembles calisthenics. Whether it’s the typical push-ups or the atypical oil rigs (which ironically involve push-ups). It mixes things up. Throws a corkscrew into things. Causes you to adjust and by adjusting makes you better. read more

HYPE 101 (DCA)

Attention. Class is in session.

For starters: What is hype? I’m not going to give you a Webster’s dictionary definition because nobody uses dictionaries anymore. Hype is general excitement and fervor for an event, object, person, etc. But it’s more than excitement. It’s beyond excitement. It’s beyoncitement? Don’t get it confused with any sort of Beyonce reference (despite her mastery of hype). read more

Deal (DCA)

We’re dealing out some #FreeFitness. Not just in the month of November (despite the name that particularly confuses people every eleventh month of the year). ALL year round, MWF, we are waking up the District with smiles, high fives, hugs, ear tickles, and all the weird. We’re so hyped on this and we want to know that you are too. What’s one way you can show us? Let’s make a deal: TRACK EVERYTHING HERE. Why? Because if you do, you’ll most likely end up getting some free stuff (besides the fitness, sunrises, and hugs) this month. Also, that little ‘Terms and Conditions’ button allows us to keep doing this thing without having to worry about insurance issues. Signing in at least once (ever) = signing that waiver = Very happy leaders. Transitive property. So this morning’s workout? Those donuts you had for breakfast? Track them. That Friday workout you showed up to? Track it. That PR week you run? Track it and then we’ll know if you PR’d so you can get free CAVA. But you gotta track it all (Pokemon!) to get some free stuff. read more

Let’s Recap (DCA)

We spend a lot of time looking forward. Forward to dates, events, milestones. This is good. Look forward. Anticipate incredible things happening in your life and them make those things happen. That’s part of what we do here at November Project. And when you surround yourself with a community that makes you better physically, mentally, and emotionally, there’s nothing you can’t do if you put your mind to it. read more
