Veteran’s Day, A Guest Blog – by Eugene Kim of November Project San Diego

This morning at NPSD was just like any other typical NPSD morning – epic. It was a brisk 50, and there were some nerves at 6:20 with only a handful of tribeswomen and men standing around, chatting, hugging. Where is our tribe? Is it too cold? But things quickly came together. By the 5s, 10s, 20s… Tribe members trickling in, 5 minutes from the bounce, to form what seemed like a mob of hundreds. DCIM108GOPROGOPR2362. Today is Veterans Day. For those of you who don’t know, San Diego is an enormous military community with 95,000 service members stationed throughout the county. And what made this morning that much more special was seeing some of our core members who are previous or current service women and men coming to spend their morning celebrating with us at November Project. DCIM108GOPROGOPR2526. The workout was new, yet familiar. Starting with 9 minutes at the fountain, running, planking, box-jumping, followed by 20 minutes visiting 4 corners of Balboa Park, all of which have hosted many NPSD workouts of their own. Interrupt laps with a full tour of calisthenics around the fountain, and ladies and gentlemen we’ve got a workout! And it wouldn’t’ve been NP without a proper burnout. Appropriately, as we approach the months of binging and winter bulk, we spent 5 minutes blasting our cores on the “Angelo Abs by Angelo” program. It. Was. Good. But more so than the usual, what made this Veteran’s Day workout the experience it was wasn’t the familiar workouts, hills, or places; it was the familiar faces, American Flag Speedos, and man-thigh. And that, ladies and gentlemen of San Diego – nay, the world – is something this incredible community can never get enough of. Man-thigh. America. DCIM108GOPROGOPR2538. With all my love, Beards DCIM108GOPROGOPR2391. ANNOUNCEMENTS:

– #MayhemMonday – Throwback Edition continues with a #destinationdeck at the SD Rowing Club. This is how a DD works: if you live within 3 miles of the workout you run/bike to said workout and run/bike home. If you do not – meet at Fanuel Street Park at 6AM to group run to and from the workout. The workout is a deck. That’s it. So if you don’t run or bike, you will be missing out on the majority of the workout. read more

WEATHER (SD)

WEATHER! We had WEATHER!

Yesterday and all of last night we had thunder, lightening, rain, and HAIL. Yup, it hailed in San Diego. What the hail happened?

I’ll be honest. I wanted the WEATHER to still be happening this morning for the workout. I even wore my winter jacket (thanks North Face) and Erik wore his winter hat. read more

Throwin’ it wayyyyy back (SD)

We all know that #TBT (Throwback Thursday for those of you not in the know) is a thing… but how bout #TBNovember? Ok, that hashtag might never catch on, but throwback November is officially here in San Diego.

We’re going way back – old school jams, old school clothes (yup, break out those throwback jerseys), old school Boston inspired workouts, and today we had an oldie but goodie at Kate Sessions Park. read more

Cheetahs, Wizards, and …Jeff? (SD)

Zombies can’t run for shit. Frankenstein, forget it. Mummies are just too stiff. And ghosts, they don’t even walk, let alone run. Witches fly brooms because they hate to sweat, and clowns are just plain creepy. But November Project tribe members, ooo boy do they run fast. And I mean scary fast. PR fast. read more

Terrible Twos? Nah, Terrific Twos! (SD)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOVEMBER PROJECT SD!

2 years ago, a small group of neon clad humans celebrated our first official workout as a November Project tribe. Since then we’ve seen so many things: engagements, marriages, babies, new people come, old friends leave, new jobs, new loves, old fears left behind, new friendships born, and a sharp increase in the happiness levels of humans in San Diego. read more

Sweaty Selfies and New Best Friends (SD)

Some mornings just have that something special. That little extra spark in the air. People smile bigger, laugh louder, glisten brighter with sweat, and sing 80s rock songs at the top of their lungs. And with all that energy in the air, is it surprising to see that the hugs last longer and the friendships/relationships grow more quickly? read more

Haunted Edition of #MayhemMonday (SD)

It’s October, which means things like cold weather, pumpkin spice everything, slutty Halloween costumes, and haunted houses.

Well, here in San Diego it means some of those things. Replace “cold weather” with 90 degree days, add extra skin to the Halloween costumes, and replace “haunted houses” with “haunted parks” and you’re on the right path. read more

San Diego’s Obsession: Angelo’s Abs (SD)

We took to Balboa Park like every other Wednesday. Little did we know about the roller coaster of emotion we were about to embark on.

Starting with attention jacks that were louder (and more uniform) than the Navy’s right across the plaza, we immediately started feeling pretty good about ourselves. We moved next to compliment squats where our self esteem and egos skyrocketed as our partners said nice things about us. Let’s treat this like being at the top of the first major climb on any good roller coaster. The epic descent was soon to follow. read more

How Bout That NEWS? (SD)

Another Wednesday, another eventful morning at November Project San Diego!

We had some rain. We had some new faces. We had a rolled ankle (we love you Donna). And we had the news.

Let’s get one thing straight: we LOVE the media (real, fake, and social). We love when people want to interview us, put us in magazines, or throw our faces on the news. Why? Not because we’re vain human beings that like to see our sweaty selves all over the place. No. We LOVE it because it helps spread the November Project message to more people. It helps get the idea of fun loving, free, community building, fitness to tons of potential new members that maybe haven’t heard of it before. read more

I LOVED This Morning (SD)

I really did. I loved EVERYTHING about this morning.

Ok, not everything. I didn’t love that part of the morning where Eugene shook out his super sweaty tank top sending his DNA flying all over Jenna and myself.

But otherwise, I loved it all.

From Alejandro’s sink full of kittens, to the sauna of a stairwell, to the slides made for kids aged 5-12 only, to the epic race finish by Cade, to the security guard that just really couldn’t believe that no trainer was getting paid by you guys, to the Hap Birth Boo to John, to forgetting where next week’s workout is (location is below), to new capes to new amazing tribe members. read more
