It’s October, which means things like cold weather, pumpkin spice everything, slutty Halloween costumes, and haunted houses.
Well, here in San Diego it means some of those things. Replace “cold weather” with 90 degree days, add extra skin to the Halloween costumes, and replace “haunted houses” with “haunted parks” and you’re on the right path.
It may not feel like fall in the air, but we wanted to stay true to the theme of the month by taking Mondays to one of the haunted locations in our city: Presidio Park. Presidio Park is the site of the first European settlements in the Western US, founded in 1769. It’s also the site of a horrific accident in 1975, that led to the haunting that still happens there today.
Lucy. Lucy was an all white deer that lived in the San Diego Zoo. She escaped the zoo and would spend her days hanging out in Presidio Park. The locals would feed her and she became pretty comfortable in her new home. Until she got too comfortable and started wandering around in front of traffic. That was when local officials thought it best to bring her back to the zoo. So they attempted to tranquilize her, misjudged the amount they would need, and ended up killing Lucy. Since then her ghost has been sighted startling walkers and joggers in the park.
Today we didn’t see any ghosts (although some of you did look mighty pale post workout), but we do have the rest of the month of October! The park is full of hills, trails, stairs, monuments, and perhaps some friendly (hopefully) ghouls to share our upcoming Mondays with.

– Weatherspoof: As the rest of the world hunkers down for winter, those of us in CA and AZ giggle. We stay warm and sunny throughout the winter months, so we really have no excuse. Our tribe shouldn’t get smaller, you shouldn’t stop coming, and we shouldn’t get slower/fatter/paler in the upcoming months.
– Legal-ness: stay tuned for more announcements, but we do have a waiver that we need to have everyone sign. We live in a world where we have to protect ourselves (and all of you guys) and as #worldtakeover continues, spreads to 26 cities, 2 countries, and thousands of people – that means a small amount of paperwork.
