November Project: Where ‘Everything That Rises Must Converge’ By Pete Navatto (NYC)

November Project: Where ‘Everything That Rises Must Converge’

By Pete Navatto

As another New Year approaches, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how January 1, nearly four years ago, was the day I changed my life.

January 1, 2011 was the day after I had my very last drink.

After that time, I became “the guy that taking a couple weeks off from drinking,” then “the guy that used to drink,” and later “the guy that doesn’t drink at all.” But what I am finally ready to identify myself as is an alcoholic. Because I should. Because I am. read more

The Positivity Award hits the streets of YEG…

When we give out the Positivity Award, the recipient will usually take a few photos with it and send it to us to see what they have been up to with it. This past week’s winner took things to an all new level, and you’re about to read how. We’ve already told you how he is one of the kindest, most genuine tribe members we have. And how he recruits for the tribe, squeezes in our workouts even when he has to be at work by 7, ran his first 10 km race in October with the tribe….he’s also creative, he dresses up for our costume days and he always has a smile on his face. I am so incredible proud for you all to meet Greg (from YEG): read more

Guest Blog (SF): Ms. Shannon Kimball

I spent the better part of a decade being viagra super active a total ass of a recreational runner. A few years on varsity track teams and a small dose of talent gave me the idea that I knew best. I was a “real” runner, and I had an opinion on everything. Some of my (madeup) rules included: real runners don’t take more than two days off per month; never run with music; and if you don’t feel like throwing up, you’re not trying hard enough. read more

The Positivity Award Speaks: meet Eric. (SD)

If you’ve ever attended a November Project SD workout, you know Eric. In fact, if you’ve ever attended ANY run club in San Diego, you’ve probably met Eric. This guy is everywhere. And while coming in 2nd place at the La Jolla Half Marathon, stamping recruiting papers,  and putting on some of the most fun local runs in Pacific Beach, he always has a smile on his face. Obviously the #positivityaward would make it’s way into Eric’s hands at some point. read more

Meet Chris. Chris is pretty badass. (NYC)

Chris Mosier is 100% badass.  He came to us when we were still a handful of people and his energy, fitness drive, positive fitness, and just all around hype gave NYC a new edge.  A new person to bring it every week.  Some to push us to push our limits.  Someone to push the boundaries and tell us to keep going.  To take that next step, but not stop there.  Chris raced the NYC Triathlon, set a PR and did some cool shit along the way.  Then, went to Gay Games 9 and go silver in the Triathlon.  Can’t stop racing.  Won’t stop.   read more

If You Can’t Beat ’em, Join ’em – Guest Post by Erika

There are very few couples with kids that come to November Project. Usually one of the parents stays home to take care of the little ones, while the other one comes to run the stairs, crush some hills, roll around in the mud, sprint in the snow, or swim in the Boston Harbor. How parenting duties are divided we wont go into details as the complexity of negotiations, and bargaining chips used, should be a blog post itself. But one thing that we don’t hear all that much about is what November Project is doing for the inner-marital competition. Our friend Erika Anderson, shares her insights…

Last week I attended all three November Project sessions: burpees at City Hall Plaza (where were YOU, Mayor Walsh?), PR day at the stadium (posing with the #PR_Pig), dinosaurs on Summit (dressed as mammal, not reptile). This, however, is par for the course for hundreds in our city, not to mention the rest of the United States. It is, actually, par for the course in my own house. My husband has been attending November Project religiously – one even may say cultishly – since first reading about it in Runner’s World last November. For months, I’ve heard tales of burpees in the snow, shovels on Summit, PR’s at Harvard. A third of his laundry is spray painted, and we even have a stroller that sports the NP logo. read more

From Mental Funk to Cartwheels

If you haven’t met Ryan Komaiko at this point, you haven’t been using those morning hugs and intros for their intended use. This dude is a soft spoken racer that comes up with brilliant ideas around the Boston Marathon. Recently he decided to share his story of how November Project helped him embrace Boston as his home away from home. read more

Maybe I’m Hooked by Jenna Nagler from LAX

Jenna Nagler has been a core member of NPLAX for quite a while now. This girl not only defies what it means to challenge yourself but also has a great spirit and true spunk. We have seen her get faster, fight asthma attacks and get wild every Wednesday. Nagler this past Wednesday pushed herself harder and proceeded up “the bitch” without stopping, multiple times. Progress! She may think that she is slow but she’s lying. She’s only getting faster everyday. Turning it over to you Jenna. read more

Blades of Glory by Dayle (YEG)

My favourite Swede (she’s not actually Swedish) was at the very first November Project Canada workout. It is only fitting, that one year later, she shares with you her story. I could tell you about how she was very scared of hugs at first and how she says she doesn’t want to do things, but she ends up doing them anyways because she knows it will make her better. Or I could tell you that she still managed to smile every morning after everything she went through this year. Instead, she is going to tell you herself. Ladies, and more importantly, gentlemen, meet Dayle. read more

Tribe, meet 8Mile.

Where to begin. I met JD at a local running store’s Monday night run club. First impression, nice dude, southern manners, can beast Mt. Soledad with the best of them.

I stood on my bench, made my November Project hype speech, dropped an unexpected (they didn’t know me that well yet) f-bomb or two, and then anxiously awaited Wednesday morning to see who would show up. JD. Only recruit. Fuck yeah. read more
