Finding the Intangibles (DCA)

Today’s blog post is brought you by our own Hirsh Kravitz. His words speak for themselves so other than that, get READY for some post-workout SHAKE SHACK (Union Station) b’fast, that’s all you get from me today. WILD LOVE.

All of us are searching for something. Whether it’s a PR, a new job, a new pair of running shoes, a way to give back, a significant other, a better running route, that green M&M, or even an amazing jar of peanut butter; we all pursue something.  However, there are times we are searching for something, but can’t express what that something is. It’s that elusive intangible that we can’t pinpoint. Is it a need to find more meaning (whatever it means) or to better ourselves and the world we live in? Is it to find that all elusive “purpose” or answer the “why am I here” question? Is it even possible to be searching for something without knowing what that something is?  For many of us, the search seems impossible until it finally ends, but not because we actually find that something, but instead because “it” finds us. read more

Proof that NP Welcomes Everyone (YEG)

People approach us all the time about supporting different causes and events throughout the city. It comes with the territory of being involved in the community. Almost always, we say no to these these people. It is not because we don’t support what they’re doing or believe in what they’re doing. In fact, we love what they’re doing but it’s not our place to say whose cause is more important. Every now and then, one comes along that is aligned with November Project’s values, is put on by a tribe member, and is something that will be good for the tribe. When we were asked to support this cause, we didn’t even need to hear the end of the sentence before we said yes – Full Disclosure: We made Josh, a former Positivity Award Winner, wait a bit before we told him that we’d support it. – As you read Josh’s words, you’ll understand why supporting this race was the easiest decision we have had to make. read more

The Story of Colleen and Bob Scott (YEG)

On the surface, these two are responsible for creating our maple leaf stencil. However, the two of them (and their dog Kaiah) mean so much more to our tribe. If you’ve never looked to either of them for inspiration or support, you will after reading their stories. Take some time, and get to know our favourite power couple, Colleen and Bob Scott. read more

These Are My People – Meet Sarah (SD)

Meet Sarah. She more than deserved the Positivity Award when we gave it to her a few weeks ago. She even wrote this amazing blog post about November Project San Diego. And then she slept through her alarm on Wednesday and didn’t make it in time to return the Positivity Award to the tribe. What does that mean? Well, it means we missed you Sarah. And you owe us all a dance next Wednesday. But we still love you. And this blog post still deserves to be read by all. read more

The Human Experience – Meet Jeff (SD)

Dear NP17 World,

I kindly invite you to meet Jeff. Jeff is one of the smartest, funniest, most fierce members of November Project San Diego. He also happens to be one of the most amazing huggers that the tribe, and possibly world, has ever seen. He hugs with his whole body, his whole heart, and possibly some supernatural force that’s yet to be discovered. It’s no wonder that the Positivity Award finally made it into his hands. read more

November in January – Meet Julia (SD)

November Project,

Meet Julia. Julia is an amazing yoga instructor, living in San Diego for about the past year. I had the privilege of seeing Julia tell her story at a lululemon event called San Diego Speaks. So resilient and strong, that’s what I thought of this woman.

A few weeks ago she showed up to the Wednesday stairs and we had the awkward moment of introduction, considering I already knew a lot about her history. read more

Flu – The Story of Jenn O'Meara

As I’m sitting in bed with a runny nose, coughing my lungs out, many of these things are hitting little close to home. Whatever your stand on flu shots and vaccines is, one things is for sure – don’t try to be a hero and “work through” a sickness or an injury. You may do more harm than good. Note: some text has been edited to fit the current timeline. read more

Not just another year (MKE)

On January 21, 2014 my sister (Emily, Girl Schwabe) told me to contact Dan Graham. Although not yet acquainted with Dan, I was familiar with the name. He had started November Project Madison, known only to me at the time as “that crazy morning workout my crazy sister does.”  All I had heard for the past year was how (insert superlative) amazing, fun, tough, life changing etc…these works had become for her. Now, Dan (DG), was about to give birth to a new NP tribe in Milwaukee. Although not implicitly stated, it was assumed that if I didn’t make it to the first pledge workout, Emily would cut all familial ties and disown me as a brother. With kinship on the line, I agreed. DG had contacted me the same day and through only a few texts I could already tell this was going to be something special. read more

To: Our Leaders…From: The Tribe (YEG)

Dear Andrew, Jen, and Nadim,   On behalf of all the tribe, we wanted to thank you for all you’ve done for us this past year with a bit of a surprise Christmas “flashmobby-kind-of-thing” this morning. As we reach the end of a great year, we want to wish you and your families a happy holiday and to say thank you for all that you’ve done to inspire, encourage, and support us this year.    Over the 16 months or so since November Project arrived in Edmonton, we’ve all made friends who now feel like family, we’ve grown as athletes and, more importantly, as people, and we’ve all felt the power of what just showing up can do for ourselves, each other, and our city. You have had an enormous impact on all of us, but also on everyone else in our lives.    We hope you enjoy the following videos which provide a bit more information on what the heck happened at the foot of the stairs this morning. Thank you again and have a wonderful Christmas. P.S. Fuck yeah! See you on the hill on Boxing Day. [vimeo]http://vimeo.com/115374856[/vimeo]
