Summertime Blog (YEG)

This morning’s workout is going to be a memory burned into my brain. It was my first bounce as a leader at Commonwealth – it felt so amazing, I got to chat it up with a group of newbies and even had a few come up to me after saying that they loved it and that they are going to come back, and I got to see first hand the drive/struggle/persistence on the faces of everyone on PR day. Seriously I could not have asked for a better group of people to share today with – thank you. read more

Sunrise & Newbie Day (YEG)

The big important things in life are…….just that haha but it’s the little things I find that ground me – that bring a smile to my face. Stop to the smell the roses, carpe diem etc. etc. One of those ‘little things’ is the sunrise. Not just any, don’t get me wrong there are some beautiful ones out there, but specifically the one that hits the upper deck of Commonwealth stadium. read more

Puppies and Hills (YEG)

Friday will always hold a special place in my heart. Time over time we get to see the true diversity of our group. Babies in strollers, various age groups/skill levels, and all the dogs! Did you see how cute all the dogs were today?

😍😍😍

Just adorable!

Today you started off your weekend the best possible. You put in the work. You got up. You made yourself better. Thank you for sharing that with everyone, we are better together because of you! read more

May – The First (YEG)

Wisconsin notes:

  • It snowed. Its now May;
  • Pretty sure only one person fell – he previously signed a waiver so it’s ok;
  • You pushed yourself to be better; and
  • Don’t be Not Exclusive (don’t worry I’ll explain below)

When you go to one of these workouts one of the first things that you notice is that our people are varied. We don’t fit into any mold or expectation. I would feel comfortable in saying that we are unlike anything else this in city because of it.

We actively or passively abide by the understanding that we want to better ourselves and that there will always be a workout, no matter what. This means that no matter who you are, no matter what you do outside of this group, you know that the person next to you is showing up for the same reason you are. Yes we make connections with each other, some better than others, but fundamentally if our entire workout was completely silent you’d still know a few awesome character traits of the person standing at the bottom of the steps beside you. read more

Hold On (YEG)

Maybe this isn’t the most uplifting thing to say but it never gets easier. The alarm might get easier to turn off, the numbers of sets/reps that you do might increase, but the true work that you are putting in never gets easier.

We do this for ourselves – you have to find that reason to push yourself. In a group like this there are countless examples and reasons to emulate (should you choose) but in the end its up to you. Can I keep going? Can I go for 60 more seconds? One more pushup!! Etc. etc. The answer is yes. It is always yes. Day after day you will prove to yourself that you can do a little more – the human body is an amazing thing. read more

Things and Stuff (YEG)

I could not think of a good title but I can guarantee you that by the end of this blog you will have read about many a thing and probably a couple of stuffs.

Thing 1 – Put my money where my mouth is: If it has not been clear yet by my voice and lack of exercise recently, I am currently sick. It has been bloody hard not to try and push it up those stairs with all of you. Don’t get me wrong I am not comparing injuries or looking for pity. What I am saying is that in these blogs and in hundreds of other mediums we all talk about taking time to rest and making sure you are listening to your body. I am going to do my very best to do just that. Know that from the side lines I am cheering you on (even if you just can’t hear me between all my coughs). read more

Today’s Tagline is… (YEG)

The tagline for this morning’s workout is: Scalability. When the workout calls for ‘users choice’ I feel it best emulates our community. It’s diverse, fun, goofy, and scalable. You make it as hard as you want to make it. Someone who has never come to a workout before can do it and if you are looking for a challenge you can go faster or add an extra challenge (like strapping a baby to yourself). This concept of scalability is why I think this group has lasted as long as it has. Fundamentally we will always be out there working out and its up to you show yourself how hard you’re willing to push. Are you willing to take that extra step, one last pushup, are willing to get close to your limit? Your drive and determination is seen, we see you. It inspires us all. read more

Bust Out a Ninja Move (YEG)

Sometimes we can take life too seriously. We get too focused in our worlds and we need a reset. For me NP mornings can really help with that. Today was a great example of such a morning. When you got out of bed you knew that you would be crushing stairs and even a few exercises. But who would have guessed that you were also going to be brushing up on your karate moves as well. read more

Check-in with your Happy (YEG)

First off hot damn you came, you climbed, and you crushed 28:19 day. You are better for putting in that effort – thank you for sharing your drive with everyone. Your presence makes a difference. Congrats to the speed demons: Lee-ann you crushed the course!!! Trent went fast too.

Secondly, take this blog as a check-in. Have you been putting effort into your happy today? read more
