An Ode to the Bucket (YEG)

Oh collapsible blue bucket how we love thee.
We fill you with sand and rocks,
So we don’t slip onto our buttocks.
This safety fills us with such glee.

Oh bucket you live your life so carefree,
Living in Rob’s bag next to a pair of extra socks.
Until you are needed and we will fill you up from the sandbox
Oh Bucket you’re truly great

Why Did You Choose Burpees (YEG)

Today’s workout was similar to most, we bounced, we high-fived/hugged, and started our day. What struck me was how you chose to approach the workout.

The instructions for the morning involved a personal choice of exercises, whatever worked for you, it could be anything. We almost all started with squats and lunges. Slowly but surely things became harder as we ran out of ideas for what to pick next. Then it started happening. People willingly chose to do burpees. I even heard people call each other out, egging them on to join in the choice. It’s not a simple exercise and you picked it – you put in the work. What an amazing mindset, on Monday at 6am you said “fuck it I’m going to push myself.” It was great to watch and it makes me proud to be surrounded by amazing people. Even if burpees weren’t a part of your rotation you listened to your body and did your absolute best. We saw you. You were noticed. read more

Over The Hill (YEG)

I know I wasn’t the only one but HOT DAMN I did not layer properly this morning. I got too confident thinking that this morning’s temp “wasn’t as bad as last week so I’ll be fine.” A simple reminder that mother nature does not care for your confidence.

Speaking on nature: Did you see! Did you see! This morning was again filled with light!! That means the snow will melt, we get to run not on ice, we get to go back to Commonwealth………………..*looks at calendar*……………. read more

Multi-functional Headwear (YEG)

Ah the fresh buff feel, nothing like it. The buff may be soft but did you know how functional it is? Did you have a gander at the packaging? There are so many options! With one piece of fabric you can instantly become a pirate (trust me packaging does not lie).

As you read through the options you’re thinking to yourself “Rob, these cant all be real can they?” read more

A Reminder (YEG)

Sometimes these blogs can be about simple funny things but it’s also an opportunity to discuss ‘heavier topics.’ I am going to take the opportunity to do that today. Before that, here are the important bits

Wisconsin Notes:

-You showed up today, gave your heart to the community in big, small, visible, and subtle ways. You are amazing because of it. read more

Yodeling Up the Hill (YEG)

I hope that you have started reading this sentence on a desktop computer and that by now the video below has already started playing. Oh the looks you’re getting from the people around you. I wish I could see them – my imagination will have to do. For you mobile device/headphone people, hit the link below and join in the fun of the smooth belching tones of a lederhosen clad man caressing your eardrums (how about that hat tho).

It might not have been a -30 day but it was a cold one. After almost two weeks of an “extreme cold warning” I am looking forward to temperatures that start with a -1, not a -2 or -3. We can take off one of the 17 layers we are wearing – WOOOOO!!

Just in time for the Sunrise 6km. For those who don’t know or as a refresher:

The Sunrise 6km is a run, 6km long,
in and around the time of the rising
of the sun. This event will happen
a few times a year and allows you
to track your growth. Even if you
have a slower time than previous
years the goal of this event is to
see where you are at. Bring an extra
layer as for an event like this we
will wait for everyone to come in.
No pressure, no expectations,
just a flat out and back. read more

This is a Blog (YEG)

This is a blog

I am writing a blog. Words are being strung together to form sentences. I am reflecting on the morning trying to decide what to write. My legs are twitching (do I have restless leg syndrome? – no probably not *they keep twitching*). The keyboard clinks and clanks as I move my fingers over the keys pressing down on the little plastic pieces (man this keyboard is gross – I should really clean it *I don’t actually clean it*). The whirl of my office space buzzes around me, too much work – not enough staff – classic issue. I should really focus on writing this blog….. read more

Don’t Stop Moving (YEG)

The workout this morning was affectionately named Don’t Stop Moving – mainly because its f**king cold and I didn’t want us to freeze.

Each exercise was planned in order to keep our bodies warm and to challenge ourselves. Physical, mental, and emotional challenges – all were checked off this morning. Andrew’s app may have been shy of the mark but the community that got out this morning certainly wasn’t. No seriously you are AMAZING PEOPLE – we throw these accolades around a lot but you got up, you put on a million layers and worked out. You did it!! read more

Did Today Really Happen? (YEG)

NP Family, Andrew Ference 2019, A post modern rendering of a Friday workout

There is a high probability that a workout happened. Maybe a bounce. Possibly a “Fuck Ya!” Pretty sure people showed up for some #hillsforbreakfast. I am almost certain that hills were crushed, the cold was endured, and that high-fives/hugs happened.

I am not 100% sure because the phone froze right before any photo evidence could have been saved. Who would have thought that we are more #weatherproof than a Google phone. Take that Sundar. read more

Stay Safe & Love What You Do

It’s not uncommon for us to have blinders on – focusing on only what’s happening in front of us or in our direct community. We miss cool stuff happening. Things like some cats over in NYC are promoting a Runner Safety Awareness Week, this week!

It is sadly not uncommon to hear in the news about incidents happening to people enjoying what we love to do – Run! It’s important to keep these things in mind but to also find balance in still allowing yourself to enjoy your chosen activity. With that in mind here are some simple tips in order to take precautions while doing your thing: read more
