On to the guest words:

A few days ago, over libations to celebrate a fellow tribe member’s birthday and buffness, Rick and Tom, two of our three ever-charismatic co-leaders, were going about recruiting new bodies– as you can imagine, birthday parties present prime NP recruiting opportunities. Given that the Winnipeg tribe is aiming for 200 souls in attendance by summer, it’s probably best to deploy all efforts early and efficiently, birthday parties included. Of course, my enthusiasm for NP knows no bounds, so mid-pitch, I interrupted Tom and asserted to the new recruit that NP is quite simply a “game-changer” (exact quote). This opened the door for Rick and Tom to ask me to continue the pitch myself. Not wanting to disappoint them, I sized up our interlocutor: a fit young lad, who would probably really enjoy NP if only we could find something to motivate him to get out of bed. Of course, my immediate reaction was to suggest NP was a great spot to “meet chicks”, trying to capitalize on the assumption that many heterosexual lads in their 20s go for this line of argumentation. I think our recruit was somewhat shocked that a woman would offer this up as a reason to join NP, but hey, whatever works, right? Wrong. You know what they say about assuming… This guy looked at me and said “Uhm, but what if I have a girlfriend? What if I don’t want to meet chicks?”. Clearly, I need to sharpen my sales skills. I felt like I had mucked up my first real recruiting opportunity–in front of our co-leaders, no less. Obviously, I have way better reasons for why NP is the best darn thing you’ll do for yourself. Mercifully, Rick asked me if I’d like to guest blog to share my NP experience and hopefully redeem myself for such lamentable recruiting. I certainly did not, and do not, want to give the impression that NP is a fitness version of Tinder, with condoned bum-grabbing and flirtatious jump-squats (although I won’t lie, I have seen some pretty sexy burpees from time to time). This time, with this guest blog, you better believe I’m going to nail the pitch and I’m going make sure any new recruits reading this are going to swipe right. read more

#InTheBuff

Wisconsin Notes: You missed NAKED DAVID.  Shame on you.

This mornings ridiculousness must be acknowledged.  I was sitting in class last night listening to my accounting professor drone on about matching the negative adjustment of earned capital with a positive influx of non fixed speckled-unicorns due to fly out of the barn on a fine Sunday evening, and so I was thinking about what anyone in their right mind would be thinking about – trying to find something funny post to the NP Facebook account about the pending workout. The ol’ leaders group chat with Tom and Derek was buzzing off about announcements for tomorrow – nothing too special, just selling the buffs.  Buffs?  FREE BUFFS?  #InTheBuff? Naked jokes?  Hehehe – that shit is always funny (at least to me, i’m basically in kindergarten). read more

The Year That Was and the Year That Is (YWG)

Wisconsin Notes:  This morning was hard. Renee is a bad-ass.  Rick is feeling feelings and really wanted to tell you about them in an absurdly long blog post.

After this, the first Wednesday of 2016, it seems only natural to reflect back – pontificate, if you will – on the year that was 2015. This time last year we were a young, upstart, pledgling tribe – having duked it out through the “dark ages” that was #NP17 with #nonewtribes, we were finally given our one shot – our one opportunity – to become a November Project Tribe.  Would we capture it, or just let it slip?  (Sorry, I blacked out there – what happened?). After hitting a surprising 60 people (it seemed so big at the time…) at Winnipeg Gone Rogue in the fall of 2014, we had absolutely no idea what to expect through our first winter of workouts. January was relatively nice to us with reasonable not-minus-30 temps, and then February came around with a punch right in the gonads and decided we needed the coldest month on record to really prove that we had what it takes.  By the time Bojan the Barbaric showed up with his tribe of greasy Oilers in the first week of March, we were a hardened, feisty group of 25ish regular tribe members that had a lofty goal – 100 at a workout by June 3, 2015. read more

Little Bit of Love

Wisconsin notes: Sign the waiver by signing up to our tracker here. This morning was nice.  Nate is a beast.

I don’t know about you guys but I found this morning difficult.  It could be somewhat related to the ass kicking delivered by Sami Squire at Awesome last night (what up Core Flow crew?!) but those stairs took a lot out of me, and I don’t think I have any more hoisties left to hoist – the sign of a great morning, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. As always the energy was infectious, the smiles were wide, and surprisingly enough the weather was more comparable to a brisk Edmonton winter day than one we would expect in Winnipeg this time of year (what up NP Canada??) – it all made for another stellar, beautiful, memorable day with all of you – and i’m so glad you were here. read more

Winterpeg Pride

Wisconsin notes: This morning was awesome. You people are awesome.  Derrick is awesome.  Nothing special to note in the below blog post except a whole bunch of awesome.  Track your P.R. from today, and create an account to sign the waiver (if you haven’t already). It takes 5 seconds and helps to ensure that we can keep this workout free and fierce for years to come!  See you next week – same bat place, same bat channel. read more
