Cement Castle Wonderland (YWG)

Wisconsin Notes:

  • Positivity Award given out to… The Parking Garage! Congratulations, well deserved!
  • Feel the Bern.
  • Rain and #weatherproofiness

When I woke up this morning I was pissed.  I didn’t get enough sleep and the weather app promised me that it wasn’t going to be raining in the morning. And it was. Harder than when I went to bed. The reason I was pissed is because we had an AWESOME workout planned – we were gonna arrange everyone based on their ________ and make you run around doing _________, __________, and a couple of the classic ____________. I was super pumped for it because it was new and different and was sure to be super hard and fun and basically the best time ever. Unfortunately it required use of other parts of the forks and just wouldn’t be quite as awesome in the rain.  So reluctantly, we switched up the plan to go to the parking garage and completely changed the workout plan in about 5 minutes of brooding over morning coffee. The best part about the whole thing is that I get to tease you all with the above blank spaces. Show up next week, it’ll be worth it. read more

Friends in Sweet Places (YWG)

Wisconsin notes:

  • Baltimore.  Just cause. Or maybe there’s a reason?  Do it.
  • Danielle because friends are great
  • Renée’s video skills – creepy, but awesome?

I am constantly learning things from November Project. So far from this summer season one of the lessons that has hit home the most is the power of this community for someone who is new to a city, or perhaps coming back after a long absence, or even just looking for a new group of friends or to step outside their comfort zone.  This lesson hit home for me when Jamie showed up at his first YWG workout a few months ago – it was incredible to watch the crowd welcome him here that day, but even more amazing is to see how someone can go from knowing absolutely no one in a new city to having a huge social group that hangs out regularly on weekdays, weekends, and the occasional early Wednesday. Sure it helps that Jamie is fast as fuck and that beard belongs in a lumberjack calendar (word on the street is that the girls and some of the Toms have been calling him Hot Jamie, which is totally inappropriate and everyone please start doing that now). But i’d like to think that we would have welcomed him, beard or not – cuz thats what we do. And he has a dog so there’s that. read more

Sprints Spirit GUEST BLOG (YWG)

Wisconsin Notes:

  • SARA writes blog. SARA is a good tribe member.  Be like SARA. Or be yourself – that’s good too.  But write a blog (if you want) and be sure to tell us how great we are (like SARA did).
  • SHOE DRIVE next week. Bring your gently used SHOES and your family and friends’s gently used SHOES and help empower Winnipeg to find our movement.
  • ONE MORE WEEK to sign up for the WFPS Half Marathon / 10K  / 5K.  We would love you to show up and crowd the starting line with us – register today!

Dear fellow tribe members,

You all rock. Seriously, who does this?! Who gets out of bed at an ungodly hour, hugs a bunch of strangers and proceeds to sweat it out with them? And how on earth have I been motivated to actually start running AND to get in front of a computer and write? (Two things I swore I wouldn’t do again after they were mandatory in school) I’m telling you, there’s something special in the air at November Project. Huge shoutout to our AWESOME leaders here who make this happen every week. When I think about all the work and dedication that goes into this making this movement what it is, I am totally floored. read more

THANK YOU to all of you who showed up this morning to give a few guest leaders a go at running this crazy thing we call November Project! And thank you to my co-leader Jamie and his sidekick Cece for being awesome (#dogsofnp #beardsofnp).

Our leaders may be off adventuring, but I’d say we held down the fort this morning despite about a bazillion bug bites. read more

Feelin TIGHT and BRIGHT (YWG)

Wisconsin Notes:

  • Allie’s smile goes for miles
  • Shoe drive – August 31st
  • #BetterThanBedtime – TOMORROW 7:30 PM at the Cube for a 5 km run, 8:00ish at Kingshead. TIGHT AND BRIGHT.

I was in to it this morning.  I mean, i’ll be honest – i’m in to it every morning.  But this morning I was really digging the vibe.  There were another 20 new people (seriously where do you all keep coming from? Winnipeg isn’t that big) and the feels as people gathered was electric, exciting, nervous, and friendly all at the same time.  The workout was hard – I know that ’cause I did most of it for the first time in a while (told my knee to buckle up) and cause everyone was SUPER gross and sweaty by the end.  That Party Time workout is the workout that just keeps giving – I can’t remember who said it but I heard someone say “I just can’t win” which is exactly the case with that one – the faster and harder you go, the harder and faster it gets you.  Sorry that was weird. read more

What Rain? (YWG)

Wisconsin Notes:

  • Over 100 of you decided it was a good idea to work out in the rain. Who does that?
  • I’m still sore from garbage hill pop up last Friday
  • BIG ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT WEEK. Don’t fucking miss it.
  • Brad’s jacket and snowpants will one day be retired in the NP Hall of Fame

Let’s get something straight. Working out in the rain is not fun.  Not a single one of us does that regularly (except Junel, dude is crazy), or would ever have really considered it before NP.  When I woke up yesterday morning (yesterday, I know, blog is late, but it’s a good one I promise) it was pouring rain outside.  The sound of the rain was really nice in my comfy bed – that is until I realized I had to get up and work out in it.  I actually thought we would be a fraction of our usual group – Winnipeg is pretty good at cold, but rain?  That shit is different for sure, right? read more

#NPisLife (YWG)

Wisconsin Notes:

  • Josh has been coming out since literally the very first Winnipeg Gone Rogue workout, and we were shocked when we realized he hadn’t won the positivity award yet.  Usually we say its not about being the fastest, but, well, dude is the fastest. But his smile is also a mile long.  Fuck Ya, Josh – thanks for being a complete bad-ass and supporting the tribe from the beginning.
  • Guest blog by our boy GUST. DAVID GUST.
    • So many good times with NP
    • The NP community is awesome
    • #NPislife

    Hi friends.

I’ve been wanting to do a guest blog for a while now and my time has finally come. I’ve had many thoughts on what angle or theme to put on the post. Many of my thoughts have been covered already, so I thought I’d just walk you all through my experience and journey with you crazies of NP. read more

Terrible Twos AKA Happy Birthday YWG

Wisconsin Notes: We are two years old.  In mind, body and spirit. That’s all you get today, Wisconsin.

January, 2016:

Tom: Did you just verbally commit to getting 200 people to a workout in June?

Rick: I blacked out.  Did I?  Fuck.

Tom: That’s a lot of people.

Rick: Fuck.

Tom: Fuck.

The above conversation pretty much sums up this morning. It was, to be polite, un-fucking-believable. There was more than 250 people at the Forks bouncing this morning. 250. Just look at that number. Two Hundred and Fucking Fifty. Plus. There are literally no proper words that can describe the epic shenanigans that went down this morning, so instead of trying, we will just focus on thanking the several people and organizations who helped make this morning a success and helped get us to this point in our young existence: read more

Community (YWG)

Wisconsin Notes: Throw down your P.R. times on the NP Tracker and sign the waiver (create an account) if you haven’t because risk management is NEAT and EXCITING. This post packs all the feels (drink the kool-aid, join the group), almost as much as we are feeling KAITHLEENs endless positivity.

Summer was nice while it lasted (YWG)

Wisconsin Notes: Tim is a bad-ass. You did an entire deck of cards, you beautiful beautiful mess. Sign the Waiver. It’s good.

Wow!  What a wonderful summer we had.  Time on the beach, basking in all the glory that a wonderful Winnipeg summer brings.  I got out to the cabin a whole bunch – not sure about you but I didn’t spend a SINGLE weekend in this wonderful summer of ours in the city.  It was great.  And now, alas, we must kiss goodbye to the sweet sweet summer wonderfulness and say HELLO to the cold dark grip of another Winnipeg winter.  I for one am ready for it and looking forward to MONTHS and MONTHS of cold, dark workouts and not seeing your faces behind your buffs.  WOOHOOOOO! read more
