PR’s are meant for breaking (ORL)

While we hope you are always challenged with your Wednesday morning workout, we also hope you always have fun-and PR Day is no exception! Though it is a more systematic plan than we run occasionally; devoid of Bojans, bear crawls and bench jumps, we still want you to enjoy your early morning while attempting to crush those PRs! We try to keep it well regulated so you can continue to challenge yourself with a healthy dose of self competition. We designed the new course back in August, taking advantage of the gorgeous lakeside path and planning a route that would allow for maximum high fiveage. We threw in 21 burpees per full lap because, lack of stairs+we just really love those full body burners! Whether you set your PR at 2, 2.3 or 3.2 rotations, or maybe you didn’t get your full beauty rest and hated when the alarm went off (like me, getting the bright idea to soak the NP stencils in acetone just after midnight, and scraping off layers of paint with my bare hands at 2am so you could all get a fresh tag) but, you still had the drive to get up and get moving. Either way, congratulate yourself on showing up for yourself and your tribe, because fitness is always more fun with friends to encourage you along the way. Btw, I really love that our traverballers are competing not only with themselves, but also calling out others! Keep pushing yourselves, and each other-the work is worth it! read more

I just show up because I love you (ORL)

It was Tuesday night, I was sitting home writing up notecards for a ‘conversation station’ that would be a part our Valentine’s themed workout, when I received a text. It said something like, ‘Hey, can we maybe do a parking garage workout tomorrow, because…rain. Some people are not sure if they can make it.’ Now, let me point out that this text came from someone who recently boarded a plane, flew 1200 miles, and showed up for a weekend of workouts in Syracuse, NY where it was sub-fucking-zero° outside. read more

Field #Goals (ORL)

It was nearly 100° warmer in Orlando than it was at November Project Chicago this past Wednesday, yet the people who showed up for a Sunshine State Super Bowl challenge were bundled up as if they’d be meeting by Lake Michigan instead of Lake Baldwin. We huddled up and got the blood flowing with a bounce borrowed from Friday Night Lights. ‘Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose’ was the mantra for the morning’s game. After a warmup that proved that, while completely badass, this tribe is far from making it to the Battle of the Pigskin. read more

Farm Fresh Fitness (ORL)

We believe the best kind of workout is one that is fun, challenging, interactive and, of course, free. We try to attain those qualities in every workout that we plan. It was chilly this Wednesday by the lake, but a hearty herd showed up to make the morning matter. After a possible record long bounce, everyone chose a random farm animal from the bag, and was instructed to find their kind making only their animal sounds. This fun activity had me cracking up and it set up their teams for the workout. The session consisted of Teams Sheep, Cows, Pigs, Chickens, and Horses competing to gather eggs from the coop. They first had to decide as a team how many eggs they would try to retrieve and that allowance of eggs was pre-determined by how many exercises they were to do. In order to retrieve 1 egg, each animal had to complete 10 burpees, 20 partner pushups, and 10 partner leg throws, then a long plank while the egg was retrieved by one person. If you wanted three eggs, the work was three times as hard. read more

Maybe Christmas perhaps, means a little bit more (ORL)

Twas the morning after Christmas, and a group of hardcore humans gathered before the sun had risen to get in one more 2018 workout with some of the coolest people in town. We took in the crisp, cool Boxing Day air as we warmed up with a little kickboxing action. We shuffled, jabbed and kicked our way right into the main workout. The 12 rounds we set out to accomplish proved to be a formidable challenge for the strongest in the group, while modifications allowed others to keep on their path to becoming the strongest. read more

Ho ho hoistees (ORL)

A chill was in the air early Wednesday morning, and everyone was gathering at the base of the lighted treepole. We huddled together for a nice warmup bounce, followed by warming hugs all around. Our spirits continued to soar as we jogged around the fountain, belting out our favorite Holiday tunes. It sounded something like “haul out the jingle bells, fa la la la la, la la la I have a little dreidel, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?!” read more

Gimel or Nun (ORL)

Wednesday mornings we work hard and we celebrate. We put our bodies through some pretty rigorous physical challenges, but we always try to balance the pain with pleasure. This week, there was lots to celebrate, as the Festival of Lights was in full swing. Hanukkah is celebrated for 8 nights, but we had only one morning to pack in all of the fun. We did not disappoint. read more

Give Thanks and do planks. (ORL)

Coming up with NP workouts can oftentimes be a straightforward task- set up a few strength stations, find a partner or two, run laps to the docks and give out high fives in between… all followed by a fun, but grueling endurance burnout.

But assigning meaning to our weekly workouts is a special endeavor, and sometimes the message is about fun (baseball opening day, talk like a pirate day, national penguin day) and other times it’s about grinding out repeats for time or quantity (PR day, beast ladder, everest). read more

PR Day in the neighborhood (ORL)

It was a beautiful PR day in the neighborhood. I was missing my fearless co-leader, #Angelface-as he had headed out west in hopes of running some trails, but warmly welcomed back some old faces that hadn’t been seen in a while, including one all the way from Germany! We also had a couple of traverballers-John brought his fast feet from NP Philly and Brian set a strong PR in Orlando, the first tribe he has visited outside of NP Baltimore! We started with some partner stretching, and then the timer was set. It was 36 minutes of burpees and running as we pushed hard to set a new, or break an old, PR. And, those who were injured or not feeling up to par, still managed to #crushit by committing to #justshowup and get in their ABvember work. The plentiful high fives, and inescapable smiles along the lakeside route were highlighted by a beautiful sunrise. What a way to start a Wednesday! A fun little finisher of jogging in place, planking, and jumping jacks-all with our eyes closed, gave us a new perspective on time. A fresh perspective is something we can apply to so many aspects in our lives. It’s easy to get stuck with tunnel vision, which can prevent us from seeing how we can move ahead or make a change in a particular situation. I encourage you all to expand the way you look at things, and to seek opportunities to build on the positive aspects in your life. We all can all make positive choices that help to enrich our lives, and those around us. read more

Tricks & Treats (ORL)

Double, double, toil and trouble. Halloween is the best in the Baldwin Park bubble! Where else on an early morning in Orlando could you see a Unicorn running alongside a panda bear, a wizard passing a pumpkin to a bloody soccer player, or Harry Potter high-5ing a ref? Clearly, it was a magical morning, as we had an array of characters turn out for a special edition- BYOP workout. We even had some souls from Kelowna and Baltimore joining us for the morning’s exorcising. read more
