Today we decided to take the tribe on a trip down memory lane to the good ole days. And how better to do that than with some school yard games, and so we decided everyone needed to play a little Simon Says. Y’all remember Simon Says right? Its where you tell people to do things but you have to say “Simon Says” first. If they do what you tell them and you didn’t say “Simon Says”..Well then you get hit with a penalty. And being the group that we are, our penalty was…wait for it….BURPEES!! Never would have guessed that would ya? (Sucks for the tribe when the co-leaders learn what you hate the most!) Simon made people do everything from running sprints and skipping hand in hand to sit ups, squats and lunges. We figured since recess only last about 20 minutes that we would only make everyone play for that long.
Hold ’em or Fold ’em
Fall has arrived and what a great way to start off a Wednesday then by embracing it open armed. Nola experienced a nice little cool spell, putting us at 70 degrees for workout time. This my friends is a borderline chili for us down here on the Gulf Coast.
To start the day off, Preston got us going with a little bounce and some hugs. Following that, the group moved into a warm up consisting of partner side shuffles, High Skips, Bear Crawls, and sprint Burpees. After warm-ups, a short planking Exercise and on to the meat of the workout.
Setting Goals for World Takeover 3014
Coming off of the 2014 #NPSUMMIT in Madison, Wisconsin, we now have 16 cities all on the same page for our recruiting goal for this year. Before the end of 2014 we’ll have a Wednesday morning where all November Project tribes combined, reach the goal of 3,014 people training for free inside these amazing communities that we’ve started. That’s right, 3,014 people out of there beds training at November Project, one Wednesday, all before the close of the year.
Fire (Ants) On The Water
Wow, a lot has happened since last Wednesday. It’s hard to even know where to start, so let’s just catch everyone up on the week that was.
Will, Cameron and Kate attended the #NPSummit in Madison, Wisconsin (Preston missed out with some weak ass excuse about a baby). Leaders from all 16 November Project tribes converged on Madison for a weekend of meeting, bonding, racing everything, and a little twerking. Flying in on Thursday/workout with the Madison tribe Friday morning/ meeting all day Friday with leaders from other tribes to see how to make to make this group even more badass/ race on Saturday morning/ celebrate Saturday night/ back home sunday. Sprinkle in a lot of Hugs, quite a few drinks, and the rumor that 2 of the NPNO leaders went swimming Saturday night in freezing water….you can safely say it was an awesome trip. Will and Cameron represented the Tribe well at the North Face Endurance Challenge Marathon Relay race on Saturday, finishing in the top 10 and proving that us flat landers can manage to navigate an incline larger than Monkey Hill when needed.
Everyone likes running stairs right?
We had to take it easy on Cameron and Will this week too. Need to make sure they are in tip top shape for this weekend when they are kicking ass and taking names at the #NPSUMMIT. We are all looking forward to finally getting to meet the awesome NP members of North America. This is going to be an awesome experience.
Things Got Awkward and Awkward is Good
Outside of again using our alternate location, things started off rather normal. Preston got us warmed up with a jumping welcome and a brief update on our weekly location plans. The tribe was then sent on a full lap around the park (1.7 miles) to get our heart pumping before things took a turn for the awkward.
Got A Minute?
The group had to stay together as everyone completed 400m laps followed by too many air squats to count. For those fast enough to finish early, they had to plank on and off until the rest caught up. Being fast can have its drawbacks! To wrap it up we did one minute of pushups, sit-ups, and mountain climbers, each of which were followed by a 100 yard sprint.
NOLA took the Chevy to the Levee
NOLA is well known for being below sea level and our most famous “hill” is named for monkeys, so we took the initiative and paced our 1mile run to Mt. USACE and attacked that Levee in pairs as if we were each individually mounting the final charge of San Juan Hill with good ole T.R. himself. 20mins of one partner sprinting up the Levee paying the burpee toll and returning while their partner performed air squats in anticipation of their subsequent turn was enough to get a good sweat going for everyone. But why stop there? The Tribe then made the mile run back to our meeting location and prepared to tackle our other challenge this morning.
Thanks to Tribe members Joey and Darin, NPNO was drawn into the ALS ice bucket challenge. Lots of different think pieces going around about the efficacy of these efforts, but the issue is close to our hearts here in NOLA with Team Gleason and #NoWhiteFlags being one of our City’s own. So we accepted and we are in turn challenging all of the other 16 tribes to raise awareness in each of your own ways as well. To provide meaning to the fun, we here at NPNO will be making a donation on behalf of NPNO to the Team Gleason organization in addition to dumping ice on our heads (which also felt really freaking good after being out in this humidity). Thanks to all of the Tribe members that were willing to get wet with us today! Good luck and goodnight, until next week and the NP world takeover. Peace
Evie is the Envy of Everyone’s Eye
8-12-14 was a monumental day for NP_NO and its co-founder Preston…he became a Dad. Looks like life was telling him it is finally time to grow the fuck up! So what did the other 3 co-founders decide to do??? Use it as a reason to incorporate that date into our weekly workout, you’re damn right we did. We wanted to make sure that everyone knew about Baby Evie’s arrival as the newest NP_NO tribe member. We can also be sure that no one is going to forget her birthday after that workout.
Better Than Bedtime, August 17th, 2014
The time has come to set our clocks, mark our calendars, and tattoo hashtags on our bodies. The summer event that went from Boston in 2012, to San Francisco, Madison, & Boston in 2013, will now include all seventeen cities in the #NP17. Put lay the concept out as simple as possible: All cities will execute a Sunday summer race/run/destination party called #BetterThanBedtime that will lead participants to an unknown location to drink, party, and have an OK time.
