The Best of What’s Around

Talk about a group of people that can make the best of any situation. The tribe members of NP_NO and our out of town visitors proved today that they can make the most out of any situation.

Since its inception, NP_NO has aimed to make Champion Square our permanent Wednesday morning home for whatever off the wall workout this group can drum up. At first we were small and pretty much flew under the radar. Since that time, NP_NO has grown to a formidable group of loyal followers and fresh faces that have caught the attention of many around the city including some of the higher ups at the group that manages the State owned Superdome.  The management company has raised some issues about our use of the space and we are attempting to work with them to satisfy all parties to continue our Wednesday assault on the stairs. read more

Phone A Friend

How great is it when you get a random text message from a friend?  It may be just a check in to see how things are going, maybe a joke, or a “remember when your dumbass did _____?” (Preston gets those a lot).  This simple act can be all that it takes to transform a crappy day, and turn it around for an individual.  Just knowing that someone took the time to reach out to you and was thinking about you is a game changer. read more

7 Minutes in Heaven

If we have learned anything over the past few months, it is that Will loves the ramps.  We are not sure if it stems from some fond childhood memory or he has grown into this affinity, but he definitely implemented them today. A warm-up of multiple ramp runs and stair climbs got the group started.  Then, after a quick break, the group was back at the ramps.  Only this time, tackling the ramp doing a bear crawl.  And why the hell not do a bear crawl? Bears are awesome.  Then just when you think you have conquered the ramps and the workout, you get slapped with 7 minutes of heaven (burpees).  To quote Mr. Stuckey from this morning “Pain is weakness leaving the body”, in which case we eliminated a good amount of weakness today.  A great workout to get the Tribe through this Humpday. read more

Flip the Script (Aka Nolia Clap)

Have you ever noticed that every other day of the week you hit the snooze button at least once? Well on Wednesday mornings, an alarm is not needed! The tribe is always ready to #riseandgrind. It’s like that Disney World commercial where the kid and the dad are both “too excited to sleep.” read more

All Tribes Lead to Madison, Wisconsin (#ECSWI)

Update: To connect with all the people that are racing in this event check out this group or put your information down in this spreadsheet if you’re looking for a partner to take on the race.

There are certain bands that have giant followings when they go on tour. Phish, Rolling Stone, Dave Matthews Band. They have an almost family quality in their mob that brings people from around the world to gather, camp, party, dance, and love on one another. You’re in the same space and before you even meet that biker with the Aeorosmith cut-off you know that you and she share the same values just because you’ve traveled to this exact place on earth, for this exact experience. read more

Bulls on Parade

God we love New Orleans. Life is just a little bit different down here. This is the home of “Go Cups” from the bar, the drive through daquiri shop, and the place that perfected Mardi Gras. Nola folks like to take a good thing, add throw some spice in dat gumbo, and perfect it in our own way. The same can be said when it comes to one of the near weekly festivals and events here known as San Fermin de Nuevo Orleans a la the annual Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain…But with a bit of Cajun lagniappe. read more

The British are coming, the British are coming…

The 4th of July is the greatest day of the year.  It’s really not even open for debate, it’s a fact…What’s not to like?  Its summer time!  You are likely going to drink large amounts of beer.  Maybe find your way to a large body of water to hang out with friends and family and watch fireworks. Not sure how it could be any better.  And of course, it commemorates that time a bunch of guys (and gals) got together, decided to give some colonial subjugators the middle finger, and form the greatest country ever. read more

Rotary Dial

IT LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT”…that song just kept running through our heads as we gathered the group to start today.  The co-leaders of NP_NO had a goal to reach triple digit participation by the end of the summer.  Of course, summer in New Orleans lasts until Mid November, so we had some buffer to make things happen.  While we won’t engage in discussing specific numbers for fear of Bojan starting WW3.  We can say, as a former President once declared: Mission Accomplished.  All of the credit goes to the NP_NO community that continuously pushes others to just show up (and a few people that have used their position to more or less force others to get their ass in gear).  The tribe is growing and the tribe is un-freaking-believably strong! Our ability to multiply thus far would make a family of rabbit’s blush, so thank you to everyone that has begged, insisted, or threatened your friends and family to just show up. read more

Some like it HOT

When we started November Project New Orleans as pledge rats back in January, one N.P. descriptor that struck me in particular was the term “Weatherproof”. Sunday School classes here in the Bible Belt taught us not to lie, and that is a scary proposition for the first southern tribe (You may have heard a thing or two about our history with large storms, but we’ve moved on and aren’t getting into that). For us folks below of the Mason-Dixon line “cold weather” starts once the mercury drops below 60 degrees. The stories of eyelids freezing together during NP_CAN workouts and pictures of people doing pushups in the snow might as well have been scenes from an early aught disaster flick staring a young Jake Gyllenhaal. Hell, here in Nola we will shut down a whole city at the mere suggestion of a snow flurry and don’t even consider driving if anyone has spotted ice, outside of a highball, anywhere within a 30 Mile radius….. read more

Waking up Isn’t Hard to do…

Waking up on Wednesday mornings isn’t hard to do, it’s every other day of the week that is (Hell, Cameron was so excited after missing last weeks workout that he forgot his work clothes and is now sitting at work sans pants… In the process also creating our next themed workout). Today, NPNOrealized why. read more
