Shoes & Brews (PHL)

Wednesdays are pretty rad if you ask me. Folks gather all over the globe in twenty-nine cities to get fit and make lasting friendships, all for free.
This morning, the movement made national news on Good Morning America – nice work NYC, DC and CHI, we’re proud of y’all and were happy to see a few NP PHL folks representing the tribe! read more

Phriday Phun – (PHL)

Hills Hills Hills

On Friday we run hills. Today we added in Bear Crawls and lunges (which were also up and down hills). It was an excellent workout.

About 2/3rds of the way through our workout however, one of our own lost his ring. Caleb was at his very first November Project workout, most of us barely knew the dude. It was beautiful to see so many of you stop what you were doing and help. The tribe was crawling around in the grass to help our new friend find that which he had lost, a ring given to him by his woman with a special inscription on it. We learned a little about Caleb as we all searched, and he learned a bit about us… the tribe sticks together! read more

Which Tree – Holiday Brain (PHL)

This morning instead of us greeting the sun – she greeted us with her bright bold light – quite an incredible way to kick of Memorial Day Weekend!

The tribe however, wasn’t as bright and bold as the sun was to get to it at the workout. We bounced and all seemed as if it would be a regular Friday of fun in the sun on The Hill. However, the tribe was confused. We’ll call this Holiday Brain.
First order of business – get in a team of three and head to that tree over there (the one tree over there). Lay0 and I were questioned “which tree?” “so we need to be in a big group?” “what happens then?” I guess sometimes we make it way too simple for y’all. 🙂
Eventually we wrangled the tribe together in teams of three at said tree. Each team took 27 strides from the tree and was to begin the workout. Teammate A, burpees, teammate B, plank jumps, Teammate C, run to the tree and back – then rotate. The teams took their strides and stood ready… stood being the operative word. It took us a minute to get y’all moving!
Good news is, Holiday Brain didn’t last too long – once you all shook it off, bodies were moving, sweat was flowing and there was plenty of hooting and hollering to be had. read more

10 to 1 (PHL)

Odds are, on the mornings we roll out of our cozy beds and hit an NP workout, we have a better day. That’s not to say that folks who aren’t there don’t have great days too. Ours are just a bit better, because we begin them together.

Today we lost our minds – up in here! up in here! Then we broke a water bottle (oops). After all that excitement we split everyone up into teams of two. Goal: find someone with a similar pace that you will spend the entire workout with. Push them, let them push you, heck make them push you!
We ran a different sort of ladder workout today – Run up The Steps, stop – 10 partner push-ups and 1 burpee. Run to the front of The Art Museum and back to the top of The Steps, stop – 9 partner push-ups and 2 burpees. Run down The Steps and back up for 8 partner push-ups and 3 burpees. You get the pattern here.. Push each other. Rely on each other. Get to know one another. Get fit!! We continued this circuit for 50 mins. read more

Teammates & Secret Handshakes (PHL)

Friday = Hills y’all – Every Friday – all of the Lemon Hills.

This morning we broke the tribe down into teams of two. Each teammate ran in opposite directions and when they met up along our loop they shared a secret handshake, and 2 x 2 hoisties. First meet up 2, second – 4, third – 6 hoisties and so on.
There were some seriously rad secret handshakes and the vibe this morning was off the hook! Something must be in the water here in the PHL – or maybe we’re just stoked about the follow up to this #runningmanchallenge TEASER vid that Sierra is putting the final touches on because it is going to blow your minds later today!! *gauntlet read more

This & That (PHL)

This morning was large y’all. A fab crew showed up at The Steps ready to get their sweat on.  Lots of recognizable faces, some new (welcome home), and some we hadn’t seen in a while (welcome back warm weather friends)!

Layo and I used the power of leadership and teamwork for today’s workout – a two parter! YES!
35 minutes on the clock & 3 stations – run half way up the steps . stop & perform five push-ups – run the 2nd half of the steps . stop & perform five squats – run all the way back down . stop & perform five arm dips – count that as ONE rep. Keep going – count as high as you can. push yourself, focus on your form and have a good time while you’re doing so.
After those 35 mins (which yes were closer to 30) we all got in teams of four. 10 minutes on the clock – Teammate A ran the steps, B planked, C russian twist’d and D burpeed – goal was max burpee reps by a team. Yes, it was a race, and what a race it was! Hundreds of burpees were performed – and this timer was off too – we did this for almost 15 minutes instead of 10 – we’re all better for it!! read more

The Long & Short of It – (PHL)

Yesterday was Friday and like every Friday we met to run hills.

We hugged, we bounced (1, 2, 3), we hugged some more. The long of it was, we ran long – all the way around The Lemon Hill loop and the short of it – well, we ran short, up to the mansion and back. On the short front, we sprinted – loop at your own decided pace, to the mansion, all out sprint. It was a good workout for all. read more

Figure Eights & Form (PHL)

Today we were hyped! It’s one of the biggest racing weeks of the year here in Philadelphia – it’s Broad Street Run week!

The bounce was loud, the tribe was hoppin and we started out with suicides on The Steps before breaking down into two teams. One ran to the left, the other to the right and they crisscrossed in at the middle where our figure eight loop met. At the top of the eight, 25 perfect form push-ups were performed, and that the bottom 25 perfect form plank oblique dips. Each lap completed you could take one rep off of the total. The goal was not to run super fast, but to focus on form and strength. read more

Indiana Jones Friday & A BIG Announcement (PHL)

The Hills were rolling this a.m. and so was the tribe. We left it all out there today – well done!

Pace groups formed and thirty minutes were put on the clock. Each group was Indiana Jones running all the way around the loop. The sun was rising as y’all were warming up and breaking that incredible Friday morning sweat! read more
