It’s Not About Me – But Let’s Make it About Me For a Sec (SUZ)(PHL)

Today was my last day standing with the tribe as a co-leader of November Project Philadelphia. It is pretty bonkers saying that out loud.

It was about four years ago that I learned of this November Project thing. Just under three years ago, in October 2013, I reached out to some of my running buddies and eight of us made our way to The Steps for our first pledge workout. A few months later, in January 2014 we officially became a tribe and had 37 folks at our workout. 37 seemed like a hundred, until we broke that number, then 200 and in the spring of 2015, 300! I am very happy to say that I was a part of all of this. read more

Do Ya Feel The… (PHL)

The DNC was here in Philadelphia all week. Good Morning America, The Daily Show, The Today Show and a list of celebrities super duper long. None of these folks were at our workout this morning. Maybe they aren’t #weatherproof ? Who knows! Didn’t matter one bit to those of us who were there! read more

World Champion of Philadelphia (PHL)

Breezy and cool. That is what this morning was, it is also how we do here in the PHL.
This morning Beth welcomed the tribe with her first bounce – and we sang/shouted all the way from a good morning to a solid f*ck yeah!

We grabbed partners, ran loops, high fived, did push-ups, we smiled, the sun rose, it was as fun as could be! You were all there and we are grateful that you were.
Post run around, high five, push-up time we rocked out a hype fest! Its good to cheer on your fellow tribefolks. Its good to get hyped that early in the morning (or really any time of day). So we grabbed our partners once again and played a little Ro Sham Bo – you lose – you hype your partner – they lose – y’all hype the competition and so on until there is a Philadelphia Champion of The World. Today that champ was the one and only Margie! This woman’s game is strong, she is fierce and she is an all around hype machine!!FullSizeRender read more

Hill Repeats (PHL)

Running hills sucks – it just does, you can say it – try it – say it out loud right now, “running hills sucks” I just said it too and I feel much better now!
The thing is, running hills is so good for you and whatever it may be you are training for. Think about it. Running a race with lots of hills? Hill repeats will strengthen you to conquer them. Your next race is a flat course? Hill repeats can and will help increase your speed. But, hill repeats aren’t only about physical toughness. There is a great deal of mental toughness that goes into them as well. Climbing the proverbial hill of life isn’t often an easy one, but perseverance, sheer will and your mental toughness will push you through. Hill repeats help strengthen that part of you too. They will get easier, life will fall into place and the more you tackle these things the better prepared you will be. In the meantime we’ll conquer these challenges together. read more

It’s Raining Sunshine (PHL)

It was a sun soaked morning in the City of Brotherly Love. It almost felt like it was raining sunshine on the tribe as we ran the steps totally in sync with on another… or maybe that was the sweat bombs pouring off all of us? Yeah, it was probably the sweat! But I’ll bet that put a pretty decent image in your head! Anyway… read more

Well, Well – Welcome America (PHL)

This morning was just another Wednesday in the city of brotherly love, right? We rose with the sun, we got our butts to The Steps, we worked up a sweat and we hugged friends and strangers alike. As far as the plans for the workout, the execution and the community, it was just like every other Wednesday. The only little difference this morning was that we were part of Wawa Welcome America! – A multi-day festival celebrating America’s birthday in America’s birthplace. A week of free events for all of Philadelphia to enjoy. It was only fitting that we joined forces this year to help bring #freefitness to the forefront of the festivities, and hopefully become a part of the celebration for years to come! read more

Batter Up – (PHL)

Friday Friday Friday – it’s finally here! It’s nearly the weekend! It’s summertime! Yahoo!

Today we split the tribe into four teams and worked out in stations – burpees at Mortimer, table jumps in the picnic area, push-ups at the outlook and a jumping jack line up for yearbook photos. read more

Impromptu PR Day (PHL)

So yes, we are supposed to have a PR day each month. We usually do the last Friday of the month, and we’re supposed to tag grassroots gear on that day too. The reason for PR day is so each of y’all can track your progress. So you can see and get excited about how much faster, stronger, more in tune with your body you are getting each and every month. Who doesn’t love that measurable??!?!
The last few months however,  something super fun and rad just happened to fall on these last Fridays of the month and leadership let PR day slip a bit… Yesterday we said, “let’s shake it up and just make a random impromptu PR/tagging day in the middle of the month” BOOM.IMG_0269 read more

TGIFF – (PHL)

Guys, it’s finally Friday! I don’t know about you, but this has been one of those never ending weeks for me.  It’s all been great, so much going on, Philly Beer Week, donations to BOMF, the birth of the first all women NP event – etc. – but I think I started thinking it was Friday already on, like, Tuesday – talk about drrrrraggin out the week!
Needless to say, I knew when I laid my head down last night that I would rise and roll (as we do every Friday) to a crowd of smiling positive faces up on Lemon Hill. And boy were there smiles!
We started things of with the 1.2.3 bounce. We hugged. We ran hills. The front hill, 12 burpees at the lookout, run, 10 burpees at the lookout, run, 8… etc. Count back up by twos once you finish counting down. read more

The United State of November Project Women (PHL)

Yesterday the always amazing Kaelan, co-leader of our sister tribe in Washington D.C. took to the socials and created something BIG. If you have ever met Kaelan, you know her energy is infectious, her bounce game is hella strong and her adoration for Michelle Obama – is borderline … well … obsessive (in the most harmless way possible, of course). If you haven’t met her, you have no idea how to say her name and that’s cool, no one does at first and she won’t be offended – take my word for it! Anyway enough gushing about Kaelan (I could go on all day) – Mere moments after The First Lady took to her Instagram account to announce the first ever United STATE of Women… The First Lady of NP DC pledged to create the first ever ALL women November Project workout. read more
