Hot Fire Drill, Highs & Goodbyes – (PHL)

There was no shortage of sweat, fountain water and tears at this morning’s romp on The Steps! We modified a fire drill, ran The Steps until we heard the air horn – dropped for eight push-ups/burpees (which some performed in the fountain) — and continued running.  Our legs were moving, our hearts were pumping and the hugs were epic! photo (1) After “good mornings.” we gave Matt the Positivity Award. His larger-than-life frame surrounds a super huge heart, and this dude embodies what the PA is all about! Sara passed the Hard Hat to Kaitleen, who never misses a workout or an opportunity to keep pushing herself harder. Kait dropped a month’s worth of verbals before June started, because she is that committed to showing up. Congrats to you both! We had to say goodbye to one of our most energetic, always-working-in-beast-mode-but-never-following-directions tribesgal Lindsay, who is leaving the PHL for SF today. (Yes, she even scheduled her flight so she could make one last workout with her home tribe). We are grateful she will have NP_SF to keep her in line and wish her a safe journey. Take good care of her out there, SF! Go forth and be well. Recruit everyone you see. Share a smile, a hug, a kind gesture. Remember, it doesn’t cost a thing to make someone’s day. You may even wind up making your own!
We’ll see y’all
Friday, 6:25 a.m. at UPenn’s Franklin Field. Meet at the Fox Fitness Center Entrance (Gate 2) on the north side of the stadium between 32nd & 33rd Streets. Bring bevs to hydrate!

NRD, PBW, Goodwill & Good Brews – (PHL)

What happens when you promote a goodwill workout on National Running Day? A sure-to- crush- your hangover workout smack in the middle of Philly Beer Week?  And offer to send folks home with a delicious beer post sweat-fest? We were eager to find out so we did all that this week – yeah we did – and people showed up! Boy did they SHOW UP! About 150 tribesfolk got sweaty with us the a.m. and more newbies were in the house today than…er… EVER – IT WAS DOPE! read more

Morning Alarms & The Timer Spreadsheet (PHL)

When you fall asleep on Tuesday night and the weather predicts chilly rain for the entire next day, do you (A) not bother to set your alarm and say, “I can sleep through November Project tomorrow” or (B) set that jammy jam anyway and jump up with glee knowing you’re going to start your day off right with a bunch of your fave peoples? If you chose B last night, then you were in for a super dope surprise of sunshine and hot sweaty bodies running amok at The PMA this morning! Good work! read more

Musical Chairs – The NP Way (PHL)

What a big week for the tribe here in Philly! We made the  of the Inquirer, the Positivity Award arrived, and we had our first workout with some tunes! (Well, sorta. Okay, we tried to play some tunes but ended up with “personal DJ sessions” instead!) Today’s workout was inspired by everyone’s favorite, anxiety-inducing, childhood game, musical chairs. Running around the square at the top of The Steps while music was playing with four stations on each side: burpees, ledge jumps, decline planks/pushups and leg throws. When the music stops, folks retreat to the nearest station and perform that station’s workout until the music starts up again. Repeat for 45 min, and … boom! Lots of announcements and awards were handed out today. Leadership is obsessed with the #LoveFest we have going here! MJ rocked the high-flying homework and had the most votes of the NP_PHL finalists. We thought that deserved something special, so we awarded her a box of Tastykakes! WTG, MJ!  Trish gave The Hard Hat to Rodney, because he is a supremo badass. After all, the dude travels over the bridge from NJ to make our workouts (and a ton of other club/events/obligations of which he is a core member here in this fine city). He recently recovered from a stress fracture and is running a 50k this weekend! Oh yeah and he wore THIS t shirt today (pictured right)! Our first Positivity Award winner was Sir Robert. We can’t say enough about this guy, his positive nature and his dedication to the tribe. He’s been with us nearly since our inception, he recruits, he cheers, he takes photos, he helps scope out locations for future workouts, and he has a British accent (which makes everything sound a little sweeter). Robert is simply an excellent example of what NP_PHL is all about. We are proud to have you as part of the Tribe! photo (7) As if all this awarding didn’t make the morning exciting enough … While taking the group photo, the fountain in front of us erupted, and we all oooh’d and aaah’d, as this reminded us the nice weather is here again and that we get up to get in motion, sweat and hug wicked f*cking early!
Have an amazing week folks. See y’all next Wednesday!

Don’t forget:
The WPR 26×1 Relay is THIS Saturday, May 17, 10 a.m. and we still need a few folks to complete our team. It’s FREE! So just sign up, and come have some fun with us in the park!

Livin’ Large – (PHL)

The tribe was large this morning! Everyone in Philly must have seen all that sexy grassroots gear barreling down Broad Street on Sunday and thought, “whoa! I need to get me some of that smiley fun sunshiny stuffs going on!” Congrats again to all racers – way to show off your NP_PHL spirit in the name of recruiting everyone! This morning was a sure sign that it is working! The people of this fine city love #freefitness and NP_PHL loves all of you! read more

Philly Tough & Boston Strong

Mom Nature clearly is acting a fool and taking it out on all of us – get it together woman! It was our first below freezing work out in a few weeks, yet the tribe showed up with a vengeance. A photographer from the Inquirer showed up too and got many a hug from the tribe (stay tuned for more on that) – Thanks Tom! read more

Big Day? Big Week!! (PHL)

It was a lovely morning here in Philadelphia, and we could see in the eyes of our tribesfolk that there was a hunger for some fun. Since we have two social events coming up this week, leadership thought it would be a good idea to get the tribe running, talking and trying to learn some names.

Forty minutes were on the clock, and we began running The Stairs. Tennis balls with instructions were tossed about, and groups introduced themselves, hugged, and rocked some sit-ups, burpees, push-ups, paired-planks, crab walks to Rocky (which were cut short because a film crew was making some sort of Rocky documentary or something, and for some “reason” — us being awesome? — we were messing that up). In honor of National Walking Day (yeah, it’s a thing), some pairs even walked it out and let things get weird. The tribe did not disappoint, walking one round up-and-down the steps and sharing weird unknown facts about themselves with ladies and gents they may not have even hugged before! Good work, guys! read more

PR-ing It & A Birthday – PHL

Today was PR day! After a one-mile jog to warm up, we RACED, and the tribe put up some serious times in our NP_PHL mile sprint (which is now officially a full solid mile — no more, no less). It was snowing … yet again, because weather conditions apparently are our fuel here in Philadelphia. Everyone crossed the finish line upright, which always makes for a satisfactory morning. But we didn’t stop there … read more
