Welcome Willie, Birthday Bob

Winnipeg Notes:
-NEW COLEADER!
-BIRTHDAY NEXT WEEK, 5 ON THE 5TH
-PEG City Scramble, Thursday

When I say ‘oh’ you say ‘yeah’

OH YEAH! What a great morning! We brought on a 3rd leader! Willie “Oh Yeah” Mac, is here! But we will circle back to that later in the blog, so put a pin in that hype. This morning we ran PR (hopefully the maps made it clearer than last time), y’all pushed and crushed it. Also this morning, my Dad, Bob turned 60! So I made him wear a helium balloon during the workout, and we did 60 of a whole bunch of exercises! Happy Birthday Dad, thanks for being a good sport! read more

NINJA (dracarys)

Wisconsin Notes:
-Ninja workout- full stealth
-NP YWG turns 5, June 5th
-PEG City Scramble IV -May 30th
-free dragonboat team, sign up
-MB Marathon June 16th, race or cheer

Now you see us, now you don’t. This morning was our ninja workout and we went full stealth. We were sneaky, we were tricky, we were ninjas. We worked out at the Lower Fort Gary for the first time and it was wicked. Super cool to explore and utilize a new area, thanks to Derek for that brain wave and for scouting it out! Y’all showed up in all black. Mike B was so disguised I didn’t recognize him until the workout was half over, he also COMMITTED to a ninja accent/ persona. Desiree brought a sword. Derek wore a black vest to hold all his things, for hands free stealth. Spike stayed on theme, Carter did not. Danielle crushed it on photo taking. Shelby won Shabooya. We forgot to birthday boom Brian. Oh, you weren’t there, and you feel like you missed out? Well, you did. But don’t worry, you can join us any other Wednesday or Friday, we have about a bzillion amazing things coming up. read more

Fill the Stairs

Wisconsin Notes:

-Jets win
-I get knocked down (but I get up again)
-stairs
-bridges

Jets had a big win last night, and despite the beers that I’m sure many people consumed in celebration, they still showed up to the workout this morning! It was a lovely morning and people were taking off layers for the whole thing! Derek led us through a very fun, burpee rendition of “I get knocked down” (I’m going to have that song in my head all day now- thanks D!). Then we did a very tough, very awesome, new circuit around the Human Rights Museum and at the stairs. If you saw our Instagram post you know that we’re trying to fill the stairs by the end of the summer, so keep showing up, and keep recruiting, let’s FILL THOSE STAIRS! Today Kelsey won the Shabooya, Kelsey is awesome, he is hard working and friendly and we’re glad that he’s here. read more

badges & buffs & bridges

Wisconsin Notes:
-Hills hard, stairs good
-Good Friday, pop up
-MEC Race #1, Sunday, April 14th

This morning was tough. We made y’all work HARD. Some new area opened back up, so we hit it up! We were able to run the Scotia bank stairs again, get on the wood bridge, and run that killer hill behind it. In the words of Yvette “as soon as Megan said it was her favourite circuit, I knew it was going to be incredibly hard and I was going to hate it” . That hill is a punisher, and you guys worked your butts off. Evan, John Hunt and Scott battled up the hill time after time, Jess was at Andrew’s heels pushing him to be faster, Jen ran up with intense focus and determination, Sarah Shimoji is still a speedy (and beautiful looking) sprinter even up hill. We also did a funny, strange, hardcore parkour warm up in the skate park. It was an excellent morning. read more

Bye-bye Cement Castle

Wisconsin Notes:
-parkade PR
-green Sally
-silly shuffle

This morning was foggy and warm and real high energy. We started off with some general calisthenics, we did a very funny partner mirror thing, we did a squat-clap name circle (so that we don’t awkwardly go into the summer without knowing the names of people we’ve worked out with, side by side all dark winter long) and we crushed another Green Sally. Today was our last PR in the parkade, everyone was out there hustling trying to get that last PR before we switch to our summer PR. Jody was heard commenting with 7 minutes to go that she had already PR’d- you go girl! Stay tuned for our new outdoor PR format this year! read more

The man. The beard. The legend: Colin Ward.

Team work makes the dream work.

Wisconsin Notes:
-it’s not freezing out anymore
-blindfold, partner extravaganza
-Colin is the man
-Manitoba Run Crew starts Monday, March 18th

Full Disclosure, I somehow got it into my brain that today was Pink Shirt Anti-Bullying Day (it’s not) and I wanted to think of a workout that could tie into that. The first idea was some sort of social simulation during the workout where Scott was the designated bully and we had to band together somehow to defeat him. But it was quickly realized that he would love that way too much and things would escalate way too quickly. The next idea was all around the idea that we are BETTER TOGETHER (and this still worked as a theme when Dom informed me that it was not, in fact, Pink Shirt Day.) read more

Ice Ice Baby

The scariest ice hut on the river.

Wisconsin Notes:
-river running
-snow sprints
-buffs still for sale
-my Dad, Bob wins Shabooya

This morning was a fun one! We did all sorts of stuff out on the river. We did a run-stairs-hoistee circuit on the river trail and then we did snow sprints in the deep snow. Much run, very pain, all effort. (And BONUS no one lost their keys!) read more

Hang in There, Baby

Wisconsin Notes:
-lunge to St B
-it’s still cold out
-we (still) out here

The winter is tough. We all know this. As Winnipeggers it’s something we come to expect, but geez these last few weeks have been TOUGH. Things I heard people say last week include but are not limited to: “I had to jump start my car 3 times this week” “I fell off my bike 4 times on my way to work because of the snow and road conditions” “the students have been outside for recess in over a week, they are going WILD.” And these people weren’t complaining, they were just stating facts about the reality of their day to day lives. And I mean, these things aren’t the end of the world but they are a pain and they can slowly start to drag you down.   read more

#weatherproof

Wisconsin Notes:
-last week very cold, this week medium cold
-Call Me Maybe
-Pop up workout at the Forks, Friday, February 1st
-The Great Skate, Sunday, February 3rd

#weatherproof, it’s one of the more common November Project hashtags, that is meant to signify that the Wednesday workouts will happen. NO. MATTER. WHAT. Which, don’t get me wrong is all well and good. #weatherproof for other tribes means showing up when it’s rainy, or -1 or really hot. But here in Winnipeg it’s another story entirely and I think we truly deserve the label #weatherproof. The winter here is cold as hell, and long as hell and dark as hell and because of that we need November Project. We need it to hold us accountable, to force us outside and to make us connect with others during the long winter months. read more
