Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think? (YWG)

Wisconsin Notes

  • Newbies and nuburgers, PR day
  • Waivers (what? why? c’mon…ok fine)
  • #SquadGoals; update
  • (in no particular order)

Last week, we (Rom, Tick and I) wrote up a big blog post about how we wanted to use this great community we have all created together, as a tribe, to give back to the community of Winnipeg. I was inspired (fired up) about it and the response we received from all of you. That’s why I thought it was ironic that that same night, my car was broken into, window smashed and bag stolen. My first reaction was to be angry about it, which I think is pretty normal, and I had a sense of ‘Well why would I want to do anything for Winnipeg when this sort of thing happens?’ read more

summit 4

This weekend was big in the November Project universe. Let’s start with a shout out to everyone who raced the MEC race on Sunday and rocked the grassroots gear. There were also a few of you who ran the Spartan Race, which is no easy feat. Congratulations on finishing that one. Big shout out to Brian who rode from Kansas City to Winnipeg, something like 100miles a day for 10 days, 1,380 km’s total. I was actually bunked up with one of the co-leaders from Kansas City, John Kohler, over the weekend. Which brings us to our next point: Summit 4.0 read more

Well we did it, we finally got the other NP founder, Brogan Graham AKA BG, to make his way up to Winnipeg. It only took us hitting ~300 people for our two year birthday to convince him we were worth the trip. His Serbian counterpart, Bojan, was here to initiate Winnipeg as a tribe in the middle of January last year, but Brogan decided to come check out the summer weather we are famous for. Apparently the way Bojan described Winnipeg winter as being similar to Serbia deterred BG from coming in January. read more

Burgs and Words (YWG)

Wisconsin notes:

  • Log on to the tracker to record your PR results from today
  • Burgers from Nuburger as prizes
  • Tabata’s for warm up, PR for cool down. Not cruel at all
  • 200 by June 8th, your homework for the next two weeks is to bring someone new (or old)

We had a great turn out for PR day today. It was a first time for a lot of you, and everyone did wonderful. First time getting to see the out-of-towner, Jamie, turn on the jets. I think he could have been even faster if he knew where the turn around point was, because once he reached it and knew he was on the homestretch, he came cruising in. Now he’ll get a chance to check out the local burger shop, where Ivan is one of the part-owners along with Kyle, both of whom come to NP.I strongly recommend the drunken aussie burger. Nice of them to donate the three $25 gift cards as prizes. I’m a little jealous I couldn’t have run today, but Rick is eating sushi in Japan and Tom is doing real doctor stuff. read more

What a week it has been.

Wisconsin notes:

  • Late blog, we decided to do it Friday so that we could cover all of this week’s activities (so many activities)
  • Big shout out to David Gust who has been helping run the show while Rick and Tom have been busy, and best of luck to him for his half marathon in Red Deer this weekend, he is running with one of our tribe alumni, Sarah Lesperance
  • Wednesday’s workout was ‘Call me maybe’, everyone had homework, hope you all did it!
  • Wednesday night spin class with Amie Seier, apparently it was really difficult. Good job everyone who went
  • Dennis is much deserved of the Positivity Award, and has been for many moons
  • Warm welcome for Jamie Schild, coming from NP NYC
  • This morning; Dragon Boat. If you were there, you know how much fun it was. It was surreal.
  • Next week: PR day. Wear grassroots, bring grassroots gear, get it tagged. Recruit.

Great turnout for the phone number workout Wednesday morning. The beauty of this workout is that every single person has a different workout. Some people may have had really sore gluts the next day if you had a ton of hoisties, and anyone that had a lot of 8’s (like me) would have had really sore lats and shoulders from all that bear crawling. Rick forgot to take into account that the size of the dial pad almost doubled this year, and it made for a long bear crawl. Killer. read more

Vagus vacation (YWG)

Wisconsin notes:

  • Vegas Vacation courtesy of Jen Ference at November Project CAN (Edmonton)
  • Organized chaos
  • Plank races
  • At 57, Mrs. Page is one tough lady
  • MEC Race this Sunday, 7am at BHP. Come #raceeverything
  • 200 by June 8th, mark that day down
  • Rick ran 52 sections in Boston

20160511_062106

This morning was no vacay, despite the name of the workout. Huge credit to Tom for coming for half the workout even though he had to be in the hospital at 7am, saving lives. And our other fearless leader, Rick, showed the folks in Boston what Winnipeggers can do, firing off 52 sections in the Harvard Stadium. Tom led the warm up; planks with top and back, and the group was almost too big to do that one. Which is good, it forces us to adapt, improvise, overcome. We were initially going to have two rows for the plank races, but Tom made a point that by the time we get in two rows, we would cover the entire field. So we did four rows. read more

Take me out to the ball game (YWG)

Wisconsin notes:

  • Stairs for breakfast.
  • Steve (not Allan) gets a huge shout out for letting us in the Goldeyes stadium (Shaw Park).
  • Grey shirt Mike (not blue shirt Mike, sit back down) now has a new neon shirt for just given ‘er.
  • 200 by June 8th, let’s do it.

Well tribe, we went to bat for you again, and managed to homer another workout at Shaw Park. I think we were twice as many today as we were last time we were there, maybe even thrice as many. The early morning calm was disrupted by banshee screams and chest bumps, whistles and pushups, and grunts of glory as the tribe powered through section after section. read more

I’ve got the magic in me (YWG)

Wisconsin notes: Guest blog by the great Amie Seier. Highlight of the workout: PIGS (Planks in goose shit) as coined by Dennis. Lots of new people today, keep recruiting so that we can hit 200 by June 1st!

“I got the magic in me.”

While I was running with Tom last Wednesday I told him that November Project is my fitness anchor. What I mean by that is no matter what is going on in my life I always get my Wednesday morning workout in.  For example, this morning when I woke up to the alarm at 6:15am, I immediately jumped five feet in the air out of bed in a panic… I was LATE! I grabbed whatever was on the ground in the dark – got changed as a ran down the stairs, and I promptly made it to the workout at 6:34am. In reality, if it wasn’t November Project I would probably say “Fuck it” and go back to bed. read more

Wisconsin notes: Time to smile! Summer is here. Pics are from today and other days. November Project: The Book is out; buy a copy off Amazon.com to read up on the history of November Project, to learn about other tribes and their members, and because it’s something cool to have on your coffee table to make people think you read. Chantelle is infectiously positive. Also, today’s workout was killer. Good job for doing it. Welcome back Paul!!! read more
