Oh hot damn, this is my jam (YWG)

cold-day

I’ll try to keep this shorter than my last post.

Today was nipply, maybe even frigid. I didn’t know if I would ever get warm when I was sitting in my car waiting for people to show up. But then we started moving, and we all got a good sweat on. Kudos to everyone that came; you’ve earned respect from the NP movement across the globe. We’ve had a lot of shout outs on the social today, and you’ve earned it. If this was NP Canada today, you would have earned a -30 badge (they include windchill). We will hand ours out when it’s -31C without windchill. Because why not? read more

Santa!

This morning was pretty special. We weren’t sure what to expect with it being the Friday right before Christmas. We figured there’d be a lot of people who had Christmas parties the night before. My flight came in at 2am this morning, and I was pretty out of it when I got to the workout. But the tribe surprised us all once again, showing up in huge numbers in their Christmas best and rocking their Christmas spirit. What a vibe. Santa even showed up! No, none of us planned that, it was perfectly random. I think it was the perfect ending to what was a wonderful year. (Well, one more PR workout next week, then it’s the New Year). The carolling at the end almost brought a tear to my eye. ‘The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear’. read more

Wisconsin Notes:

  • Green Sally Up, Green Sally Down
  • Showing Up- this Sunday night
  • NP Bridge Challenge in the Parking Garage
  • The greatest description of the Positivity Award of all time

How many of you had that song stuck in your head all day? Isn’t it fantastic. There will be more of that to come. It was harder than I had imagined it.

This morning was hella fun; it felt great to get fired up and push it in the workout, and all the high fives going up and down the ramp. There’s been a lot on the go for the three of us leaders, and we’ve been staying on top of each other to stay on top of things. Like bringing you intense workouts, and planning the event for Sunday night. read more

One, two, three four five (YWG)

group-pic

Wisconsin notes:

  • Five years of NP, five times the fun, five everything. Five minute burpees. Five is good
  • Remembrance Day Pop-up: November 11th (obviously) 6:14am at the Legislative Building
  • Frosty Beaver Half Marathon Trail Run: also November 11th, 7pm at The Forks
  • ‘Showing Up’ a Dooster Production, will be shown November 20th at Le Garage. Meet for a run at The Forks first, earn those beers
  • Kristjana: Shabooya

Five years ago, November Project was born in the depths of a grungy pub in Boston, the brainchild of two larger than life dudes, Bojan and Brogan. Their dedication to meet each other every morning during the month of November to workout, holding each other accountable, lead to the start of a google spreadsheet; The November Project (a lot like how it was The Facebook before it became just Facebook.. Whoa, they’re going to be billionaires. Well, maybe not, this shit is free after all). read more

I feel it in my fingers (YWG)

Wisconsin notes:

  • ‘Showing Up’ video screening / Better than bedtime
  • Shout out to WFPS runners
  • Nick + Nicole = Love Love Love

butts-of-np

As many of you may have seen, Dooster, the guys who brought you all of the Summit videos, have put together a movie showing eight stories around November Project called ‘Showing Up’. Check out the trailer here.

On Sunday, November 20th we will be hosting a free event at Le Garage Cafe on Provencher Blvd to have a screening of this awesome film. We decided to turn it into a ‘Better Than Bedtime’, meaning we will start with a run at The Forks, then meet at Garage. We still have to hash out the details to see if we want to do appetizers or not, I might throw up a poll on NP YWG community to see who would be interested in that. Then we will need to see what the interest is, and if we need to do an eventbrite pre-booking for everyone, as their capacity is around 120. But for now, you have the date and the location, so lock it in. Theme is also TBD. read more

Shoulder to shoulder, together standing tall (YWG)

Wisconsin notes:

  • Pop up this Friday- Goldeyes Stadium (Shaw Park) at 6:10am
  • Ivan from Yukon (not really) is the shabooya winner
  • PR and tags
  • Love letters to Baltimore

This morning was great. Somehow, we went up in numbers from last week. Normally, the group gets smaller as the days get shorter and colder. But I guess NP is anything but normal. Lots of new members this morning, I even convinced one of my chiropractor colleagues to change his clinic schedule on Wednesdays so he could start coming. Last week’s shabooya award went to Dennis, and since then I’ve been hearing all these stories about how he’s taken on this mentor role for all the newbies. It’s one of those things you miss when you’re running the work out, trying to coordinate everything. So it was nice to hear these little anecdotes, every one should take notes from Dennis and make an effort to make all the new people feel at ease. Let’s face it, your first couple times at NP are always a little daunting, a little weird. Maybe they still are. That’s ok. read more

Something fishy going on here (YWG)

Wisconsin notes:

  • Baltimore is our sister city.
  • Pop up next Friday! Goldeyes!
  • It’s getting dark out
  • NP to Falcon almost won Swamp Donkey, but then they didn’t
  • Shabooya-Dennis
  • Positivity Award: Thane
  • Next week: PR day, tagging, writing love letters to Baltimore

Last week we told you all to go harass NP Baltimore on social media (in the nicest, most Canadian way possible) and you came through. Renee (sorry I don’t have the accent aigu on the e in your name, I am slow with technology and have yet to figure the out accents on my laptop) made a beautifully creepy short film in their honour, and made the whole NP universe say wtf? is going on in Winnipeg? This week we explained to you that NP Baltimore is our sister city, which is a secret we’ve been keeping from you since Summit back in July. Next week, we have more homework for you. As you come in from your PR run (which will be hella fast by now, end of the summer) we want you to grab a pen and an index card and write down basically whatever the hell you want. A quick note, a Canadian recipe, a classic NP YWG workout, your favourite things to do in Winnipeg, ask a question you might have for them, talk smack even. The list goes on, we’ll leave it open to interpretation. Then we will ship that off by snail mail to Baltimore. read more

NP Winnipeg Shoe Drive (YWG)

Wisconsin notes:

  • A truckload of shoes
  • PR day
  • WFPS Run coming up

untitled (4 of 20)

Today, the tribe pulled through once again with an amazing display of community by filling up Rick’s truck with shoes for those in need. We had this planned for just over a month, and we were skeptical that we would actually get enough shoes to fill the box of his truck up. But fill it we did. Thank you everyone who came and donated. These shoes will go to Lighthouse Mission in Winnipeg, through Project Echo. With a quick ‘shoe’ search on Spotify, we also had some interesting tunes to work out to this morning. read more

Milana, (the identity behind the infamous Sebastian) one of our original core members who has helped build this tribe and community into what it is, is moving to Montreal next week. Here is here adieu:

Hi friends, bye friends.

As many of you may know, today was my last NP for a while. If, however, you are wondering, “Hey, what gives? Who’s this chick and where are the wise words of those 3 wild boys we know and love?” then I have not done my job and have not hugged you nearly enough. Or, maybe today was day 1 of your big November Project adventure. If that is the case, ouuu mama are you in for a treat. read more
