#DEE2ECC

From Emily: Almost one whole year ago, my life changed in a way I don’t think I’ll ever be able to describe.  Along with my friends Evan Dana, and Deniz K (I still don’t know how to spell his last name without copying and pasting from Facebook), I became one of the three November Project Boston co-leaders.  None of us could have known at that point all the incredible ways that being co-leaders would change us, empower us, challenge us, and inspire us.  We were asked to take on this incredible honor/responsibility because of how much we each love NP, how much we care about the tribe and every single member, how much we believe in the power of the community and the importance of the workouts.  And ultimately, we were asked to give of ourselves something special to the tribe and NP as a whole.  Over the last year, I have come to know and respect Evan and Deniz far more deeply than I could have expected.  They have given their time, talent, skill, passion, heart, heart, heart, more time, humility, blood, sweat, and certainly tears to this tribe, and I know I speak for the entire tribe when I say thank you.  Thank you both for giving of yourselves, for being so genuinely you, and for making this tribe (and the whole freaking worldwide community of NP) better.  You each bring unique and valuable gifts to the tribe, and they have been appreciated every single day of this journey.  My gratitude for you is immeasurable, because I certainly cannot imagine having been on this journey without each of you.  I love you DE, and thanks for making #DEE so special.  Thank you for continuing to be the amazing, awesome leaders in this tribe that you have always been, both before and during co-leadership, and now beyond.  read more

Wisdoms of Friday

On Monday, we are meeting at Lincoln Park near Cory Clarke Donuts in Somerville. This will be a very special workout by Evan. Find out the exact location here and verbal.

Today, the weather was perfect for a great hill breakfast. We ran up and down on the front side of Summit Avenue all the way to Beacon Street and back up, spiced it up with ninja stairs all the way to Beacon Street and back up again, and topped it off with 10 push-ups before we went for a repeat. Remember to record your reps in the same link where you found out the Monday location. read more

November Project Canada Guest Blog Post (YEG)

jul17Hi there,

This is Deniz from Boston, @denizofboston. Nadim asked me to write your blog post today. So here it is. I don’t know what you guys did at the workout today. But I am sure it was pretty badass. Bearing through all the tough conditions, having badass leaders like Nadim and the Ferences, and their parents, I imagine your tribe must all look like this:300 read more

Glad to be here!

Let me be honest. Today did not start so smooth. Last night I went to Ikea after work to buy a shelving unit for the #RaceRoom in my new apt and didn’t start putting it together until after I made it home at 10PM. Then, I had to prepare a #NPWatermelonDerby car. I was hoping that I could place the watermelon on the toy truck I got from Walgreens, but then I realized it’s against “RULE #3 Watermelons cannot be attached to a pre-fabricated chasis of any kind (like a skateboard, stroller, toy car, etc.)”. Who comes up with these rules anyway?? It was already past midnight by the time I made it to bed. And this morning, I had to wake up early to prepare for the NH trip I will go right after work. The whole morning until I made it to NP was stressful. Why am I telling all this? Because, even as leaders we do struggle through less than enthusiastic mornings too. It is good to keep it real. Nobody loves getting up early and says: “Yay, I woke up so early again, I love November Project.” read more

Be That Crazy

Today was the worst! Tuck jumps trying avoid the shorts sliding down from your wet butt.  Planking while people jump over you, not being sure if that was a rain drop or a sweat drop. Lying on the ground and raising your legs, while holding somebody’s wet ankles and watching rain drops land on your face. And pushing yourself up from the wet ground. Ugh! read more

Family

What’s a family? Dictionary says it’s a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. It’s our siblings, parents, children. It’s our dog or cat. It’s people who adopted us/were adopted by us. It’s the kids of our step-parent. It’s our in-laws. Actually it’s more than that.  It’s the people we live with. It’s the people we see almost everyday, share memories with and miss when they are gone. After 3+ years of seeing each other 3+ times a week, we have become one huge family. We keep growing, but sometimes some family members have to go away. Good thing is that Tommy, Katy and Nathaniel are not by themselves. They are with our cousins in San-Francisco. And, they sometimes come visit us.
A
Tommy and I had a duel to win a spot in the family picture. I was not gonna be nice just because he is a little shorter than me. I hit, he fell. He hit, I fell. Eventually, the judges decided that he won, and he got his spot in the family picture. But Katy and Nathaniel felt bad for me, and they were nice enough to have a picture taken with me too. read more

#TheTribeShovelsHydrants

We know you are fed up with shoveling. We also know that you awesome human beings are already going out of your ways to help others during these snowy days. You might also be coming to shovel the stadium tonight 6:30-8pm.

We challenge you to take another world-changing action today. Find a not-shoveled or partly-shoveled hydrant, and shovel it today. Take a picture and post on your social media handle with hash-tag: #TheTribeShovelsHydrants, and inspire others. We know you won’t do this just for a prize, but there will be a prize for one tribe member who completes the homework today and posts by 10pm. read more

Mira, Mir, Peace

ISTANBUL NOTES:

  • Today’s circuit included 10 burpees, adventure run through snowy paths leading to 10 push-ups followed by an all-out sprint, stair climbing, lunges up the ramp and finally bear walk back to burpee zone.
  • The theme was blue in anticipation of Emily’s expected arrival in Boston with JetBlue and making it to the #DestinationDeck before we finish. Snow delayed JetBlue, but a few flakes could not extinguish the blue fire flame of the tribe, and their jet packs of energy fueled by hugs and smiles.
  • The other day, Emily asked me my thoughts about the badassery of women and men of November Project. I said women for sure! She said women too. Then she challenged me to an arm wrestling competition to prove her point. I was not arguing her point, but I lost anyway. Today, we decided to extend this challenge. The challenge was: who will have higher number of reps in total, men or women? At the end of the workout, Sarah reported 125 total reps for women, Scott reported 85 for men. So, it is proven, once again, that women are more badass than men.
  • Unrelated historical fact:  On the 25th day of February 1954, Bosphorus (the strait that connects Black Sea to Mediterranean Sea) froze.  And it was so much fun.
  • Related non-historical fact: Mir means peace in Serbian.
  • Life is beautiful. You are beautiful. Keep your smiley face until we see you again on Wednesday. Mir, Mir!
