Twas the morning after Christmas, and a group of hardcore humans gathered before the sun had risen to get in one more 2018 workout with some of the coolest people in town. We took in the crisp, cool Boxing Day air as we warmed up with a little kickboxing action. We shuffled, jabbed and kicked our way right into the main workout. The 12 rounds we set out to accomplish proved to be a formidable challenge for the strongest in the group, while modifications allowed others to keep on their path to becoming the strongest.
shout it out with glee (ORL)
here at november project orlando, we like to think that our workouts are tough, that our community is tougher, and that no threat of #weatherproof can keep us from earning our wednesday mornings

for this week’s holiday hoedown, we held the annual #reindeergames, which involved a sprightly sprint across 12 stations (some strength-based, some just plain silly- i’m looking at you, #eggnogshot, and some running-focused. we can’t forget to highlight the opening ceremony which tested our wits and dexterity by attempting to unwrap (and unwrap and unwrap) a holiday gift while wearing oven mitts on our hands. thanks to my esteemed co-leader dyani for taking the time to wrap those boxes and giving us multiple reasons to get wacky on wednesday.
Ho ho hoistees (ORL)
A chill was in the air early Wednesday morning, and everyone was gathering at the base of the lighted treepole. We huddled together for a nice warmup bounce, followed by warming hugs all around. Our spirits continued to soar as we jogged around the fountain, belting out our favorite Holiday tunes. It sounded something like “haul out the jingle bells, fa la la la la, la la la I have a little dreidel, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?!”
So merry.
We then moved joyously into the main workout. We partnered up for pushups, squats, and ho ho hoistees, before continuing on to side leg lifts and high knees. We followed that by skipping like snowflakes toward our candy cane twists.

After we had our fill of hard work and high fives, there was one final challenge: a good, old fashioned holiday plank-off. The contest was called a tie, with three still planking. Rays hips were a little high, and #angelface was slightly droopy, I think we all know there really was a clear winner.
With presents like free fitness and fun friends, it’s sure beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! I can hardly wait for all of the magical things that next Wednesday’s workout will bring! Elfie looks forward to seeing you then!

Gimel or Nun (ORL)

Angelface showed up to the party way underdressed, as it seems he hasn’t quite figured out that FL temps can go from 85 to 40 faster than it takes to fry a latke. He was offered several jackets, but refused, as he is #weatherproof. We huddled close and a long healthy bounce was a formidable warmup. We paired up the longest standing members of NP Orlando (which just turned 2 btw, another small reason to celebrate) with the first timers. Groups of 4 were given a dreidel and instructions on game play. It was gimel or nun as the foursomes spent the next 40 minutes spinning the plastic dreidel, and pushing each other to complete all eight reps of the designated exercises. If you were lucky enough to be a newbie in Ray’s group, you got to do extra reps.
That brings us to the burn out, where he seemed to be rethinking that choice. For every time a group spun ‘shin’ they added candy to the pot. At the end of the game, they learned that each piece of candy in the pot represented one burpee they would do for the burn out. A rare grievance aired by the overachieving Ray Bazzi added a long sprint to the 16 burpees, which will be known from that day forward as the #BazziBurnout. A strong finish by everyone was an encouraging start to their day.
I honestly didn’t know much about Hanukkah before preparing for this week’s work out and writing this blog. I was inspired by what I have learned about the perseverance of Judah and those who fought with him and stood up for what they believed, despite the odds against them. At the heart of the Hanukkah celebration is the lighting of the menorah. This tradition has many significances and, if nothing else, let it remind us that no matter how dark it is outside, a candle of goodness can transform the darkness itself into light. We all have a fire inside of us, and November Project helps to fuel mine. I mean, who knew that leading November Project would give me a lesson in history and religion? This. Shit. Is. Good!
Peace, love and joy to you all this Holiday season.

not just fair weather friends (ORL)

“brr, it’s cold out here. there must be some NP in the atmosphere! i said, brr, it’s cold out here. there must be some NP in the atmosphere! O-E-O-E-O… #iceiceice”

i’m learning that low temps are a pretty rare occasion here in orlando, but when they do come, the stalwarts still show up and earn their mornings.
Give Thanks and do planks. (ORL)
But assigning meaning to our weekly workouts is a special endeavor, and sometimes the message is about fun (baseball opening day, talk like a pirate day, national penguin day) and other times it’s about grinding out repeats for time or quantity (PR day, beast ladder, everest).

We’re thankful to have a tribe that welcomes whatever we throw at them, and this week was a bounce to celebrate M-I-C-K-E-Y’s 90th Birthday, followed by “pass the potatoes” relay warmup, a T-H-A-N-K-S circuit that brought back an old favorite (for some of you) in #bojans, and then a #planksgiving trivia burnout to start our holiday weekend off right (Who knew that it originated as Gimbel’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?!).

So enjoy time with your loved ones, tell them that you’re glad they’re here, and take whatever life throws at you this weekend (racing, shopping, napping…) and #makeitbetter.

PR Day in the neighborhood (ORL)
We also had a couple of traverballers-John brought his fast feet from NP Philly and Brian set a strong PR in Orlando, the first tribe he has visited outside of NP Baltimore! We started with some partner stretching, and then the timer was set. It was 36 minutes of burpees and running as we pushed hard to set a new, or break an old, PR. And, those who were injured or not feeling up to par, still managed to #crushit by committing to #justshowup and get in their ABvember work. The plentiful high fives, and inescapable smiles along the lakeside route were highlighted by a beautiful sunrise. What a way to start a Wednesday!

A fun little finisher of jogging in place, planking, and jumping jacks-all with our eyes closed, gave us a new perspective on time. A fresh perspective is something we can apply to so many aspects in our lives. It’s easy to get stuck with tunnel vision, which can prevent us from seeing how we can move ahead or make a change in a particular situation. I encourage you all to expand the way you look at things, and to seek opportunities to build on the positive aspects in your life. We all can all make positive choices that help to enrich our lives, and those around us.
Peace, love and happiness,
Dyani
Notes:
The North Face has made the difficult decision to cancel the ECSCA races in California due to the wildfires. A HUGE kudos to them for making the right choice involving everyone’s safety-and for donating the entire $30,000 prize purse, as well as over $12,000 in apparel, tents, and sleeping bags to the fire relief organizations.
Also, the food, snacks and drinks are being donated to the Sierra Nevada brewing company who is providing meals to first responders and wildfire victims.
We are so proud to be partnered with such an amazing company. You can find out more info on their relief efforts, and ways to donate here .

CHAARGing my batteries (ORL)

the tribe had an opportunity at a two-fer this week: a special field trip to the UCF campus for our NPxCHAARG fall classic on tuesday evening, and then an all-new digit-exchange workout by lake baldwin for our wednesday morning festivities. here’s a recap:

on a balmy november evening by lake claire on the UCF campus, and in the spirit of encouraging girls to ditch solo workouts on the elliptical and to gather with friends for dynamic group fitness instead, the CHAARG group took to all four points of the compass to see how we brought our madcap zany energy to a circuit of bear crawls, box jumps, planks, and dips. ⚡️
Tricks & Treats (ORL)

A ghastly bounce scared us right out of our normal spot by the lake, and we warmed up by carrying pumpkins to the frightful field of Lake Baldwin Park. The ghosts and ghouls spent the next 45 minutes raising hell in the neighborhood, all while getting freakishly fit! We ended the mornings spooky session with a competitive pumpkin relay. Our traverballers proved to be formidable opponents, as the trio including Steve from Kelowna and Christine from Baltimore, along with Orlando’s own Off-Course Emily, proved themselves to be frightfully fast!
No matter where you placed in the Great Pumpkin Relay, you were a winner. Treats went out to everyone for showing up and participating whole-heartedly in our weird games. We appreciate you all for pushing yourselves, and encouraging those around you to push themselves as well.

Major Leagues (ORL)

We led off with a special rendition of ‘Take me out to the Ballgame’ and promptly divided into two teams. The Dodgers and The Red Sox first got their October Homework out of the way by knocking 74 jumping jack-o-lanterns straight out of the park! Then they headed full speed to first base where they executed 10 postseason partner pushups. There was no slowing down at second when 20 bench jumps were cleared. As they rounded third, they completed 30 starting ab rotations. To earn that run for their team, they ran a full lap. Hitting for they cycle got each team member a point.

Valiant efforts were put forth by both teams, and the game ended in a dead heat. 55-55. Tie goes to the runner, and everyone who showed up Wednesday morning earned their place on base. The closer was a prep for the next week’s festivities. A Ghostbusters Burpee Burnout, where reverse burpees were the devil.
