The jury is still out on whether this whole free fitness with hugs and positivity thing is actually working. Just because November Project (from four cities) shows up to a race and dominates it (podium sweep and 7 of the top 10) doesn’t mean this thing is real. Just because #NP_DC gets 100+ people to show up on a Monday morning (6:30am to be exact) doesn’t mean we’re influential. Just because we’re in 17 cities in North America doesn’t mean we’re moving mountains. I’m tempted to just give up now. Why would I ever want to hang out with a ton of cool people? They want to hug me? Multiple times? For longer than 2 seconds? Forget this.
Let Me Appeal…(DCA)
We’re bringing back the guest blog. Sure, today was an epic workout, we kicked your asses, we had members from 4 different tribes there (including our Serbian co-founder), and we earned our weekend. We don’t really need to rehash the details. Just know that if you weren’t there, you missed out. Today’s blog post is brought to you by one of our most smiley, hips-in hugging, crazy awesome members. Tribe, meet Ta Mara:
Blown Up: Mugshots (DCA)
Anyone reading this that was not at the Lincoln Memorial steps this morning should be jealous. Like super jealous. Not like psycho girlfriend jealous…more like “your worst enemy got backstage passes to your favorite band” jealous. I got to hang out, sweat, hug, high five, and smile with 200+ of the sexiest people (my friends) in DC this morning. I mean, y’all looked good. Those positive vibes were flowing all throughout the Fireman Five workout and the plank hops. If you were there, I’m going to go ahead and assume that you enjoyed yourself. When you find yourself smiling 12 hours later about how much fun we had, that’s called the “runner’s high”. Don’t keep it to yourself. Pick up that phone, get on that computer, text, Facebook message, tweet at your friends. Don’t let them miss out on the awesomeness that is November Project. Not just DC. NP is reppin in 17 cities in North America. So you probably have friends in one of the other cities. We’re spreading this movement and this positive community one hug, one smile, one Fuck Yeah at a time.
Top O’ The Mornin’
PREFACE: This blog post is to be read in an Irish accent.
Well if it ain’t me favorite lads and lasses from the great District of Columbia. There may not be no blarney stone ’round these parts but this mornin’ sure had plenty of hills to eat for breakfast. Throw in some spicy box jumps and inclined push-ups on your way back down the hill and we’ve got a proper party. You all may have been 6s and 7s at first but after a few laps around, running next to your favorite blokes, everyone fell in line and had a great workout. In order for me to not ramble on (it’s either the accent or the paint fumes still floating around up in me attic), we’ll keep the rest of the announcement simple so we can get straight to the point.
Get After It (The More Edition; DCA)
Some of you are crazy racers that look forward to planning out your racing season every year with marathons, 10ks, ultras, trail races, ironmans, etc. Others could care less and just love to work out. And still others are fighting every day to find the motivation to get out of bed or off the couch. Where could one find all these varieties of individuals in one place? I’ll give you one guess and it doesn’t rhyme with hug me (despite the excessive amount of hugging occurring).
McEnroe’s Grey Fire Drill (DCA)
Sorry Chris Gray. You may have been confused but today had nothing to do with your namesake. I know this may have been confusing. Our deepest apologies.
So many big announcements today. Let’s run through them Wisconson Notes style:
– Ma Nature decided to join us today in showing some grey in support of our friends/family in SD recently faced with the passing of an incredible woman. Read our previous blog post or any other of the #NP17 posts today
Grab Life By Everything, Horns Overrated (DCA)
Ok, so the saying grab life by the horns is great. Really. I’ve said it plenty. But I’m starting to think that it’s missing something. Well, a lot of things. Sure you want to grab life by the horns because that’s supposedly the best way to wrestle a bull, mountain goat, troll (what else has horns?) to the ground. But I want to propose a change to the World Institution For International Life Wrestling and Overall Badassery (WIFILWOB, not a real organization). Let’s grab life by everything. Take the negative and make it positive. Own up, grow up (unless you’re playing sharks and minnows), and JUST SHOW UP. Life is what we make it. Some of us want to make it a really great experience. It’s a choice. So why not join us. It’s a lot easier to be positive when you have the support, hugs, high fives, ass grabs, and smiles of your NP family around you.
#NPCamera (DCA)
Todays blog is brought to you in the form of what we like to call WISCONSIN NOTES:
– We said a lot of hellos this morning
-We prepared ourselves for some goodbyes
-We created a jungle of neon between the reflecting pool and the Lincoln Memorial
-We took selfies and crowdsourced them to our album
#HillsForBreakfast (And Earned Birthdays) (DCA)
We ran hills this morning. Starting another week off with you guys and earning my monday is the only way I ever want to do it. Seriously, I don’t care if I’m 65 and still doing this (Insert great mental picture here). In the past 9 months (it’s like we’ve had a baby together), I’ve come to know this one crazy guy at NP as a coworker, coleader, and all around Portlander (Portlandian? Portlandese?). Not only that, he’s become family, like a brother, to me, just as you have all become my family. He and I don’t like to take credit for what NPDC has become because we know that without you guys, there would be less hugs, less smiles, and less community in our lives. But I’m going to take a second and give you guys a bit of a history lesson:
Sweaty Smiles, Secret Agents, and See You Laters (DCA)
Picture this: It’s the dead of winter. When it’s 8 degrees out (-13C for the rest of the world), the ground is frozen, and your breath probably forms a cloud in front of your face and then snow falls from that cloud. At times, it’s difficult to determine how hard you’re actually working under all those layers. We’re more concerned about preventing frost bite. Our circuit workouts include shivering as a station.
