I’m sorry, but I’m tapering! (BAL)

Verbal: ( NP Definition): A voiced commitment to show up early in the morning to receive a dose of sweaty hugs and positivity. Those who break a verbal shall have to report to their tribe members who will gladly dish out the prescribed punishment “We Missed You.”

We get it Baltimore. We were all a little sleepy this morning, a little down, a little glum some might say.  The Orioles can’t seem to get their shit together and as a result we all suffer. For those of you who were weeping quietly into your pillows late last night after watching the O’s…we understand. Maybe you had a few extra pops to numb the pain. We get that too. read more

The Tribe is an Animal- BALTIMORE

The tribe is a crazy  fitness animal.

The tribe is waking up, jumping out of bed, putting on whatever battle tested pair of shoes they  are sporting that day and running out the door. The tribe does not check the weather.

The tribe is waking up because they have to. Not because anyone says to, but because that’s simply what they do. While the rest of the world is asleep, prepping for months of hibernation the tribe is alive and awake, a massive breathing, bouncing love machine.  The tribe wakes up to be a part of something because that’s better than the alternative. You can either love your city, run your city and change your city or you can keep sleeping soundly knowing that tomorrow will be just like the day before. The tribe does not settle for routine. read more

Something about Johnny Appleseed

For those of you who don’t know (Ashley not being one of them as apparently this is her favorite holiday) today is Johnny Appleseed’s birthday.  Born September, 26’th 1776, Johnny spent the better part of his existence  spreading his Appleseeds around the Midwest and parts of the east coast ( we hope that “appleseed” is not a euphemism) .  Turns out the seed man wasn’t all nursery rhyme though…his apples weren’t good for eating , only for making hard cider (#history), thus Johnny Appleseed was  responsible for most walks of shame and bathroom selfies  during the early 1800’s. read more

Holy Flapjack Batman! (BAL)

Bounce thirty (TM) rolls around. Your palms start to sweat. There is a guy next to you, probably too close to you, and he wants a hug. You look  to your left, some girl is doing the cha-cha slide and it’s only 6:30. You’ve made a terrible terrible mistake.

Now a lot more than your palms are sweating. Baltimore feels like a gymnasium after the 8’th graders get done with gym class. People are bouncing, someone is holding your hand and won’t let go. ” American Girl” is playing and folks passing by are beginning to stare. Yeah, this is a horrible mistake. You should have stayed home…you should have stayed in bed and watched Spongebob reruns (god, it’s so much better when you’re an adult). You should have made yourself a big breakfast…and…and… read more

Rocks, Papers, Scissors and Horns

Every once in a while, the three co-leaders come together and hatch crazy plans. Some of these brainstorm sessions result in wildly ridiculous workouts involving lassos, farm stand produce  and miniature horses. Sadly, those workouts don’t always come to fruition. However, even occasionally someone writes an incredibly hard workout…and we decide it needs a Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament.  Sure, why not. read more

It’s only the first Friday and already we’re crazy (BAL)

Fridays. Yeah!

The three of us were contemplating this morning how it is we’re going to muster the strength to write a second blog post each week. Collectively we have the linguistic skills of many of the dogs present in Patterson Park this morning, thus getting another coherent post out of the three of us is slightly harder than a kick flip on my razor scooter. Yeah, we scooter. read more

You feel that? That’s NP’s gravitational pull: #Bmore

So if you Google “Racing quotes” the first thing that comes up is a quote by some guy named Mario Andretti. We think he’s named after the Nintendo character…we also assume he cooks a mean marinara. Whoever this guy is he has some really wise words. “If everything seems under control, you’re not going fast enough.” read more

#NP_BAL: For the love of the grind

I would like to start this post by apologizing for the tardiness. Sometimes life gets in the way and we have to do grownup thing like go to work or have several beers at trivia night. For the record Babe Ruth retired from Baseball in 1935…should you receive that question at a trivia night somewhere down the road the NP community is expecting you to answer correctly. read more

#BMORE_BMORE: Racing like the Baltimorons we are

Let me set the scene.

Two young men, covered in chalk and Grassroots gear, racing on bikes through Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. The harbor is crowded with tourists, the sun is beating down and these young men are late. Late to their big day.  The sweat is pouring, the clock is quickly moving towards 3pm. Panic is setting in.  Patches, receives the call…the runners have arrived. read more

Goodbyes, Goodlucks and lots of NP Love

Today was bittersweet. Our group kicked ass, worked hard and embraced the sweat. The #NP_BAL tribe also got its swell on , bringing in a large handful of newbies. We couldn’t have been happier to see all of those beautiful new faces, struggling to understand what the hell Patches and I were talking about and why there was a dog rocking #grassrootsgear…cuz it’s awesome, that’s why! (Thanks to Gio for making a bomb ass Bailey montage). read more
