PRAC (DCA)

When is PRAC? What is PRAC? Who can go to PRAC? I still don’t get it, PRAC?

Yep.

PRAC. PRAC. PRAC. PRAC makes perfect. PRAC is what you used call practice in college because you were just too exhausted to say the entire word. PRAC is a lot more fun that collegiate practice. WOW. PRAC is time in the sun. PRAC is time with your friends. PRAC is for meeting new people. PRAC is for testing your own retention rate of your yearbook photo stalk sessions. PRAC is dripping sweat. PRAC is maybe a little tipsy. PRAC doesn’t have to be tipsy. PRAC is about DC’s hottest new department Participation in Recreational Athletic Competition. PRAC is happening. PRAC is now. (No it’s not, it’s in September.) read more

The Tribe Will Move.. Us. (DCA)

Complimentary Workout (DCA)

Seriously, this one is on us.

So there’s this guy, somewhere, who went through a TON of work to figure out that if you spend $365 on 365 different Starbucks cards, $1 on each, and each one registered to a different birthday, you can save a shit load of money and get “free” coffee for an entire year. You see, Starbucks is nice enough to give you one free drink a year on your birthday. Let’s face the facts in this scenario though, “free” is actually free minus the original $365. (Although, I guess, if you’re ordering trenti caramel macchiatos with an extra shot and extra whip on the reg, you just might earn that money back and then some). read more

I Swear this is Serious (DCA)

I have a confession to make. The first time I showed up to November Project, I didn’t say fuck yeah. I may have said, “Yeah,” or, and I honestly don’t remember, may have abstained altogether. I’d just taught elementary school for four years and at the risk of slipping up in the classroom, had permanently replaced all swear words with sayings so PC even the Boxcar Children would yawn. And quite honestly, it made me feel uncomfortable. The words coming out of my mouth felt weird. read more

PARADISE (DCA)

Please enjoy either THIS, or THIS as you enjoy the rest of the blog. (For realz, it will make more sense if you enjoy the link.)

Recess. Don’t Mess. (DCA)

I trained for a marathon on a playground this morning.

Now that that’s out there, here is a disclaimer of sorts for the rest of the blog: I am not a coach; I am not the fastest one up the hill at Meridian; I’ve never won a PR day at Lincoln; I haven’t qualified for the Boston Marathon; one time last winter I put all of my run clothes on at 5:30am only to take them right back off, make blueberry pancakes and watch the Gilmore Girls until it was time to go to work; I don’t even know if I’m using the semicolon in the correct way. So, I’m not writing to tell you what to do, or how to run your fastest race, but I am going to dig a little personally and hope that you (yo) bear with me. read more

Heeeeee’s HEATING UP (DCA)

Or SHE, but whatever, you feel me.

How many November Project workouts have you been to this summer? How many have you been to this week? Are you heating up? Are you ON FIRE?

If we played by rules of an old video game (which is a totally fair way to live), you’d be heating up if you answered: TWO. read more

PR Day. No Frou Frou. (DCA)

Whoa, whoa. Sometimes at the end of PR day we do things like announce…

…who ran SEVENTEEN LOGS with the least amount of seconds…

OR

…the male and female that ran SEVENTEEN LOGS faster than anyone else ran SEVENTEEN LOGS…

OR

… GIVE these deserving humans a tall HAT that Lincoln himself would be proud to wear… read more

The #verbal and the #tbt (DCA)

The #Verbal

Here’s what I’ve discovered about #verbals. They WORK for November Project. I shy away from them in other places in my life. I’m going to stop shying and start verbaling.

You see, I’ve “committed” myself to doing yoga once a week to help with running, and so far, I’ve found, it really, really helps. WHEN. I. GO. This past Tuesday, the person I’ve been going with couldn’t go, and all of my yoga resolve crumbled and failed. I KNEW (for mostly a fact) that there would be other NP’ers at the free yoga session hosted by Mission Yoga in the top of Georgetown’s Lulu Tuesday night. A mostly fact, because all the other times I’ve been there, they’ve been there, but I’m sure there’s some rule against making up new facts based on a handful of past experiences. So even though, I knew they’d be there, I hadn’t dropped my proverbial verbal (whoa) and felt only roughly 20% guilty in my choice to stay home, eat takeout in bed, watch a TV show made for tweens, and then top it off with some strawberry ice cream. If I had just told ONE person that I’d go, I would have felt 100% guilty for not getting up and going. read more
