At the beginning of the month, the weather conditions reinforced prior learning (from kindergarten) that March comes in like a lion. And today, as we raced PRs for the last wednesday of the month, the hypothesis about lions and lambs in which March is then expected to go out like a lamb was proven by the fact that Chad was not the only person wearing shorts. Speaking of Chad, he won the positivity award. Chad can also be found in the dictionary as C3 (Crewnecks, Corn and Chad).
Letters Home (DEN)
Dear Elin Flashman of November Project Boston,
The last time we spoke you said that the Denver tribe needed more ‘weird.’ As more and more eclectic humans join the 5280 tribe each week, our crockpot of personalities is simmering, the flavors seeping together, yet each unique taste is bold.
I don’t know if it was the gift of awkward squats that Tim from 608 brought last month, or the collective viewing of Brian Boitano’s 1988 Olympic long program at the Recruiting Papers/Team Dinner event last nite, but the tribe is starting to transcend the workout norms that they once followed and buy in to the awkward joys of working out intimately with people they just met.
BAMFs (DEN)
As we gathered for our group picture at the end of today’s extreme workout (complete with v-hold/partner jumps, hoistie layouts and Indiana jones sprints), one of our homeless spectators yelled out, “That was one badass workout!” Enough said. Blog over.
I wish I could end on that sweet of a note but I have two announcements:
Voodoo Pi(e) Day! (DEN)
For those of you who weren’t fortunate enough to embark on a professional life focused in Mathematics nor privileged enough to ride the varsity bench on the Canton High School 19-time New England Champion Math Team, today is Pi Day, 3/14. Pi is an irrational number whose value begins with 3.14, hence, math aficionados around the globe rejoice when the calendar nears the Ides of March and they finally have a reason to talk about Math with their “friends”. In today’s fast-paced world of consumerism and TMZ, Pi Day has evolved into Pie Day, and said Mathematicians get to discuss algorithms and hyperspace, while their friends eat Pie.
PR week came early this month (DEN)
What goes around comes around. While all of our east coast and midwesterny friends suffered the polar vortex we in Denver sailed through mild mornings and highs of 50. So now that the weather in the right half of the country seems to be letting up, we get slapped with one cold ass motherfucking morning. And yes, it’s dark outside- this is not news. Isn’t the first thing you learn in kindergarten that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb? That being said, you have had ample warning to weatherproof your body and weatherproof your mind (the second is actually more important). To all those out there that question if they should show up on mornings like these, what on earth are you thinking?!? Of course you should show up! These are the mornings that build character and bond the tribe. To those of you that didn’t let your alarm clock take the win this morning, you can now say you are a faster version of your yesterday’s self and probably an all around better citizen.
[DEN] Girl You Looks Good
What do you call it when Juvenile’s 1999 chart topper ‘Back That Ass Up’ booms from the jambox just as the porta-potty evacuation truck backs up towards the lone porta-potty at Governor’s Park? I know what 16-time Juno Award winner, Alanis Morissette, would call it.
buy levitra onlineI call it a fantastic start to a Friday morning workout.
Bluebirds on Ice (DEN)
Mom nature again threw an overnight coating of iiiice on our playing field. So what do we do: postpone PR Clovers until next week (we promise!) and improvise with a running circuit station workout over the crunchy snow and under the bright blue sky! The tribe explored more of the landscape of Denver’s Civic Center Park, and Mollz and Flan devised even bigger and challenging workouts for the future.
The Antibodies of NP-DEN aka 5280 aka Mile High Tribe
November Project tribes take great honor in naming our running routes and workouts to better inform our participants at the start of each workout. This morning NP-5280 shoved the November Project flag into the grounds of Governor’s Park and declared the name of our workout route. We brainstormed names that best describe the hill and stair laden path that we trace each Friday morning. And the winner is: The Antibody. Why? Hehe, I mean, Y? Because Mollz is wicked smaht and eats chemistry loops for breakfast. She explained to us that Antibodies are Y-shape proteins produced by B-cells and used by the immune system to identify and neutralize foreign objects such as bacteria and viruses. End quote.
Darwin’s Denver finches (DEN)
There comes a day in a tribes-leaders life when they must deeply examine the line between weatherproof and safety (aka: stupid). For anyone who showed up this morning, you know that things did not go as expected per the typical PR Wednesday. The tribe has proved week in and week out that they can handle the multitude of random weather conditions that Denver throws at them. They are no pansies. But today’s unequivocal glare ice spread throughout our miniature stadium this morning was no joke. I’m talking hip breaking, skull splitting ice. And since your faces are all too good looking to risk permanently deforming and due to the absence of our lawyer, the decision had to be made to postpone PRs for another time and ship it elsewhere to get our sweat on. As such, we traded in our beloved (or not) PR clovers for some heart rate raising partner plyos topped off by lamppost suicide races only to finish all wrapped up in a cinnamon roll group hug x10 extraordinaire. All I can say about that is that you do not want to miss out on that one in the future. Thanks for that Johnny.
Breakfast of champions
No time was wasted this morning as the tribe promplty walked into a sexy-deck-Friday warm-up, followed by a race for Friday fame and glory through five sets of hill/stair combos and finished up with a yoga circle. How’s that for a well rounded mother fucking breakfast? We haven’t seen a breakfast bowl of excellence like that since Doug Flutie was the poster boy of Wheaties. Props to Julia and Dustin who set the record to beat on the hills with a rough time of 15 minutes to complete five hills (1.8 miles). We’re no mathletes here but we think that averages to about three minutes a hill as the goal to beat. #challengepresented.
