Run, flip, run for your life

I know that you have all been on the edge of your seats waiting for this, so without further ado, I bring you the recap of what went down in the mile high city before the sun rose:

Today we stepped out of our clovery comfort zone that is our “stadium” and  got down and dirty with some partner workouts. Naturally, this was the perfect debut for “thrusties”(cred: MN tribe) and some other cool moves. Then, instead of the “run, deck, run” that our Boston parents do, we did a “flip, run, flip” until the decks were demolished. Our parks and rec manager friend, Joe, characterizes our Wednesday’s as the best “kind of organized chaos”. While it may have looked like people were running around aimlessly doing pushups and crunches while Ryan sang whatever song on the Top 40 list came to his head, we did actually have a system. Team Deck Dynasty won the deck race fair and sweaty before joining their competitors. In the end, everyone finished strong along side the team that decided to call themselves Team Bone Saw (questionable?). But no moment made me prouder then when I turned around to see Team War Tribe in a mid deck motivation huddle only to hear a giant Fuck yea come out of it. It was like watching your baby take their first step- I assume that is the feeling parents feel, I clearly have no idea. Finally, Cisco inherited the positivity broomstick from Katrina after showing us today for the first time how melodically he can bellow “fuck yea”. His research may be going nowhere, but now that he’s won this prized stick we think he’s achieved life’s most sought after gratitude and can hang up his hat (he’s actually about to graduate with a PhD). It’s so cozy being the filling of the NP POWER10 timezone sandwich. See you all this FRIDAY for HILLS. Lets try that again…. read more

The Flannel Few

Dear NP-Denver tribes peoples,

Where were you this morning? You had us worried sick. As we ‘nommed on hills for breakfast, we couldn’t help but wonder, are you all okay? We know that none of you would intentionally break your verbals and leave your fellow tribes people to traverse hills alone. Perhaps you got lost in the perfectly numbered grid system that is the city of Denver, or perhaps you were taken by a clan of mountain lions while out observing the aurora borealis last night, or maybe you simply just had to see how this morning’s dream of you gladiator fighting Mel Gibson to the death for King of Sparta would end. Whatever you’re reasoning, please show us you are okay by showing up on Wednesday. We really, really missed you. read more

Polar vortex, shmolar vortex.

It was great to be back at our civic center playground on this glorious Wednesday, and to be reunited with the tribe post holidays. New years resolutions? Make em or break em but either way do it with your friends at November Project North America and I guarantee your year will be that much better.

The Polar vortex had nothing on Denver today as we enjoyed only mid 20 degree F temps, while keeping our colder sister tribes in our prayers. We commend you for one-upping it with a giant Fuck Yea slap in the face and proving to the world once again that November project is, and always will be, #weatherproof. It might not be spring time yet but its never too late to start stocking up on flannel SHORTS. That’s right, Christine’s PSA today was that the Vermont flannel company makes these beauts (Flanniel, this message is mostly directed at you). Homework for the week: acquire more flannel. And you can bet your flannel bottom we’ll be tagging these. Move over Abercrombie. I have a feeling were gonna really freak some people out this year, and it’s going to be awesome.  And speaking of flannel, we’ll be introducing Flannel Friday this week! Last week’s beta test of hill and stair repeats at Governors Park was so kick ass that the requests for more workouts and more hills today were overwhelming. And for those skeptics still out there, guess what? More hills means better butts. That’s all you need to know. So we’ll see you Friday! More announcements and reminders to be made on our Facebook page. read more

Gov’s Park Hillions

Happy New Year, friends. Anxious to get the year started right, the Denver tribe tested a new location (Governor’s Park) on a new day (Flannel Friday) for some old fashioned hill running. Hills were devoured for breakfast, and every one of us earned our weekend.

We are so excited to welcome newbies to each workout. We all know how intimidating the alarm clock is and how much easier it is to hit snooze and say you’ll workout after work. FALSE. Treat yourself this year to a new network of friends, unparalleled wellness motivation, and odorous sweat and spray-paint infused clothing. read more

Party Like it is 1999

It was another week of firsts for the Denver tribe that, today, consisted of a few newbies, some familiar faces, our first visitor from the DC Tribe named Keith, and as well as our first visitor from Africa. It was our first Tuesday workout and also our first-ever New Year’s Eve Morning workout, so naturally we blasted 90’s pop on the boom box for the first time (new tradition?). After a plyometric warm up that we made up on the spot for the first time, we dove into a workout that consisted of an ambitious combination of Shamrock/Clover stair running, sprints, pyramid pushups, and the Backstreet Boys. After getting the entire group together for one, big round of pyramid pushups and burning off a few of the calories we’re sure to consume tonight, we skipped back to the amphitheater, hand-in-hand, in a show of merriment and togetherness not seen since kindergarten. (Side note: It’s impossible to skip without smiling. It’s science.) read more

Flannel Friday with a side of Flapjacks

A special thanks goes out to Katrina for volunteering to lead the first ever Flannel Friday (trademark pending) workout, and for making pancakes to cure the post-workout munchies!
Take it away Katrina:

The Denver tribe was small but mighty today!  We were three, but we ran extra hard to make up for the people who didn’t show (I know you aren’t ALL still out of town!)…well, maybe we did that.  It was a dark Colorado morning, but the view of the majestic Front Range kept us going, as well as the ever so slowly lightening sky. read more

The Denver Tribe Goes Home for Christmas

A few short words about today’s small tribe: The Denver crew is a melting pot, which is cool until everyone leaves the state to go to their respective homes for Christmas and only three people show up to the Christmas eve workout.  Even that’s a generous statement given that only two thirds of todays trio were Denverites.  But in the wise words of our DC ambassador (the remaining one third): “Where there are three, there is a tribe.” Fuck ya there was. In honor of our melting pot tribe we did one big mashup of a workout. We came, we crunched, we burpeed, we ran, we hopped up stairs, we ran up them too, we hugged, we took a lot of selfies and we left. Thanks to Matt of DC for coming out to rep the east coast. To the Denver tribe, we missed you and understand your need to be with your families for the holidays.  We still love you and can’t wait to ring in a crazy, awesome, take over the world, 2014 with you. But not you, Christina Maggio. You verbal’d and didn’t show up. I hope cuddling your pillow this morning while dreaming of Chuck Bass modeling the latest Lacoste fashions felt extra good knowing you broke a Chirstmas promise. I can’t lie, we missed you! read more

The Clover Chronicles

Today was a day of firsts for the Mile High Tribe. First day of aggressive boombox jams, first day of presenting the positivity award, and the first time that last Wednesday of the month PR day surprise attacked on the third Wednesday of the month. The lesson we learned today: the Tribe is ready. Today, we raced the Civic Center Clover like it was 50 degrees outside. Oh wait, it was. This is why we love Denver. It was so nice out yesterday that I got sun burned on my lunch break. Anyway, big shout out to those who were able to crush 10+ clovers in 27.5 minutes, let alone keep track of that many (Alli, Kate T, Nick, Richard, Steve, Ryan, Johnny). Congratulations to our resident PT Mr. Ryan Wooderson for taking home the first DEN positivity award. Get to know him and give him lots of hugs. He slaved away to bring the city of Denver perfect NP recruiting papers and smiled all the way through the treacherous moustache growing season of November. Despite Dan’s demoralizing comments, this kid #JustShowsUp. We love him, and so should you. read more
