When exhaustion feels so good (NPSF)

We realised this morning that it’s been over three years since we started this PR course, back in the Spring of 2015. Often it seems like people actively avoid the last Wednesday of every month. It’s a rough workout. You put your head down and hammer. Grunting as many words of encouragement that your lungs will allow as you cross paths with your friends on the stairs. When you hear the description, it seems like 3 sets of 10 burpees wouldn’t so bad, right!? But after pushing that descent, you hit 4 flights of stairs. And then those 10 burpees are slow. They’re heavy. A little wayward at times. The onlookers are teasing your form (cheers Iain!). You forget your count. Shite, I think I just did 12. Or was it 9. Done, time for another lap. 1 step OR 2 steps. Ahhhh, don’t stumble. read more

I Have 5 Workouts Left- Can I See Your Face? (SF)

So it’s been nearly 5 years of NPSF and I now have 5 workouts left before I head east. Time sure does fly when you are having the time of your life. I’ll save the sappy blog post for my last day, but for now I ask you this…can I please see you before I leave?

Over the last 5 years, NPSF has been a revolving door of fantastic humans from all ends of the earth, some who I have gotten to know better than others. You may have only been to a few workouts, or maybe you have been to every Wednesday since Alamo Square (JMB), it honestly doesn’t matter to me. I want to see ALL OF YOU. The last few weeks have been dark and wet, a recipe for San Franciscan’s to surely sleep in late and start work at noon. I get it, this city has the most flexible work schedule in the whole damn country (except for San Diego, where they just simply don’t work). But I am asking, pleading, and borderline begging (please girl, I don’t beg) you to make it out to one of the next 5 workouts, or better yet, all of them! Bonus points if I haven’t seen you in years and want to just jump into one last workout. It would mean more to me than any of you realize. read more

Survive and Advance (SF)

March Madness Is Here! Have you been paying attention? I’m from Maryland so I already knew about UMBC. But that put me in the minority before they smashed UVA (wahoo-wah?) last week!

Well this morning we came looking for our very own cinderellas. Our March Madness workout pitted two people repping their alma maters against one another. There were rounds of 64, 32, Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final Four, and an oh-s0-elusive opportunity for a championship. read more

Happy Pi Day, NP World!

Happy Pi Day! As someone who loves both math and delicious sweets, Pi Day has always been my jam, so I took the opportunity to share that excitement with another one of my loves, NP. The workout was chock full of pi references. Early gang did Clayton’s infamous little loops and some “circular” exercises. 6:30’s workout included a lap around the park with partner exercises at every corner. The lap was supposed to be a circle, because pi. Cat brought to my attention that it’s more of a square but also pointed out that the formula for the area of a circle is pi r *square*d, so really it all worked out in the end. For the exercises, the number you did for each made up the digits of pi (3 hoistees, 14 partner pushups, 15 around the worlds, you get the idea), which was also Cat’s idea, so let’s be real she gets all the credit for this workout. read more

Today I led my first full length official workout as an NPSF leader (SF)

Today I led my first full length official workout as an NPSF leader. There were box jumps (on the benches, unless you were Jide who used the actual picnic table and gave me major fitness envy), lunge walks, stair runs, pushups, and some other pieces you’d expect from a Wednesday workout. There was a stair burnout that everyone flew through. There were even secret handshakes between partners (and Laura in a exclusive North Face jumpsuit) to spice it up a bit. All and all, a solid Wednesday in my book, I’d call it a success. read more

Team Ali (NPSF)

This morning, we had our co-leadership crew grow by one more, as Ali Fauci was announced as the new leader of November Project San Francisco. On April 4th, Laura moves to the East Coast…. so we will finally have someone sort out that crew in charge at Harvard Stadium. And hell it would be an awful idea to leave the Tribe in the far from capable hands of Zip & Paddy. read more

Fun Facts About My Parents (SF)

This morning was one of my favorite NP mornings ever. Not sure if you guys could tell but I was having an absolute blast watching my parents shoot people with nerf guns. Seriously the best investment NPSF has ever made.

Giving Phil and Marla the guns was a wise choice. Of course I had initial second thoughts when the very first person my dad shot was Brad, today’s newbie. Please come back, Brad. My parents won’t be mean to you ever again. read more

The 5 Year Recruits (SF)

“When is that workout group again? The one Laura leads? Oh, 6:30 on Wednesdays. I’ll get there soon.”

This is the conversation Connor has been having with his friends Peter, Andrew and Mike for 5 years. They would see each other at work, at bars, on bike rides, and everywhere in between, but never at Alta Plaza at 6:30 on Wednesdays. Connor would give up but then one of them would ask, “Oh, when is that workout again? Oh, 4 steps from my apartment? Right, right. I’ll come soon! I promise!” This has gone on for years. YEARS. A few months ago when it came up in conversation I remember saying “It’s okay Andrew, I know you’re never coming.” read more

Spirit Week (NPSF)

As we near the single greatest sporting event of 2018, the Tribe is getting a little bit excited. Sunday will see the showdown of all showdowns. The showdown the world has been waiting for. The event the Tribe has been training for over the past four years. The November Project SF WINTER OLYMPICS!

Four years ago, we took to the hallowed grounds of Fort Mason and tested the Tribe across 4 events… read more

Three Cheers For Haute Toddy! (SF)

A few years back our friend Orrin came up to visit from the city of Angels and said he was here to see his friend Tod and convince him to come to NP. It took a little while, but Tod started coming to the 5:30 crew when Clayton was head honcho. Much like Jide, I was so intimidated to first approach Tod because of how beautiful he is. Am I not allowed to say that because I’m married? Fuck it. Jide and Tod are my first and truest NP crushes.* The one’s that got away, I suppose (if only you could hear how loud I am laughing at this right now). read more
