Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger! (IND)

Tomorrow night, the Circle City welcomes Kanye Kardashian, so he was the inspiration for this morning’s bounce…or at least the bands he sampled were.  The set list for this morning was #NP_IND’s cover of the Apex workout, which goes a little somethin’ like this.

The Lyrics:

  • Divide the tribe into small groups.
  • Each group did an apex circle workout which consisted of two body weight exercises.
  • The first tribe member did one push-up and then planked in place, while the tribe members did a push-up waterfall around the circle.
  • The reps went up to 5, and then the group took off on an up and over.
  • The second apex circle workout consisted of Fast Feet and Burpees, followed by an up and over.
  • The third apex circle workout consisted of Hollow Holds and Russian Twists, followed by an up and over.
  • The repeat first verse, and continue until the fade out (30ish minutes).

Going for the Gold…Door (IND)

After staying up late and watching Michael Phelps, the Men’s Freestyle Relay team, the women’s gymnastics team (the Final Five), and the rest of the Olympians (American and otherwise) take the gold last night, #NP_IND wanted some gold of our own.  So, we took advantage of all the gold doors at the Indiana War Memorial and decided to get a little competition going. read more

We’re Movin’ on UP!! (IND)

First things first, has anybody actually tried to cook beans on a grill?  Sure, they don’t burn…but wouldn’t they just fall through the grates?  Anyway, on with it.

As regularly as the sun gets woken up on the last Wednesday of the month, so happens Race Day.  Newbies (and traverbalers) came from hour and a half+ long drives just to get their fill of the War Memorial steps.  PR’s were dropping like sweat angels and the up-and-overs were rising like the humidy…but everybody brought it today and left it all out there.  Literally left it all out there.  I may get a call from the Memorial Police telling me to hose down all the sweat angels we made.  But, I wouldn’t have it any other way. read more

We’re Gonna Have a Good Day!! (IND)

Off the charts energy this morning as the hype made it all the way from NP Summit in Canada down to Indianapolis.  In fact, it probably made its way down quicker than I made it up to summit (see notes).

The Workout:

Partner Workout – Partner #1 does an up-and-over.  BUT, on the east and west sides of the memorial, the runner “grapevines” across aka side steps while facing this beautiful city of ours.  All the while, Partner #2 is doing a rotation of Push-ups, Tricep dips, and Plank Jacks (10 Reps each). read more

Here’s my number, so call me…maybe?? (IND)

The #NP_IND tribe has some definite swag because everybody got some digits today!!  As NP tribers all over the world prepare to invade Canada for NP Summit 4.0, we got our midweek kicks in with the “Dem Digits” workout.  Write your phone number down (no name), throw it in the bucket, draw a different number and begin!  It’s like a key party without a safe word. read more

Rain Missed, Thunder Struck! (IND)

We dodged the impending rain this morning, but there was still PLENTY of thunder.  Our tribe showed up strong: that 5:28a group came to rock with only one newbie but lots and lots of regular Wednesday warriors; the 6:15a had a killer newbie showing (thanks for “Tom-Hale-ing” it up Maegen and whoever recruited Jacqueline and her carful). read more

Summertiiiiiime and the Stairs are Easy (IND)

News coverage, yearbook photos, grassroots gear tagging, oh and it was Race Day.  Action packed morning to say the least!

We had a kick-ass beach party going on at the War Memorial this morning, only instead of rum drinks, we just did a bunch of intense working out. Sounds fun, right, right??

Workout: Ye Ol’ Race Day Workout Recipe:

Take 5 parts up-n-over, 50 parts situps, pushups, and mountain climbers, and 25 parts burpees and combine as follows (I don’t think I’m using “parts” correctly, but the recipe turns out the same regardless): Start with one up-n-over.  Add sit-ups.  Mix in another up-n-over.  Add your pushups.  Crack one up-n-over over a separate bowl and stir in.  Follow this up with the mountain climbers.  Add another up-n-over.  Turn your motivation on high and mix in the burpees.  Finally, spread the last up-n-over across the top, and find out how long that took to make (and record that time on the tracker). read more

All Decked Out (IND)

Summertime in the I-N-D…and we welcomed the solstice with a good, ole fashioned deck workout.  The early group stayed completely dry, while the 6:15ers got a little drizzle in their biz nizzles.  The always popular group workout is as follows:

  • Teams of 5 each start at separate stations at different corners of the war memorial.
  • Each station has a deck of cards and those at the station keep flipping the cards and doing the corresponding workouts until their team member from the previous station comes and relieves them.
    • Spades = Burpees
    • Clubs = Low-five Push-ups
    • Diamonds = Squats
    • Hearts = Leg Raises
How many depends on the number on the card. Flip and repeat until you see the sweet, smiling face of your team member to come tap you out and then it’s on to the next station.

But, don’t worry; running was involved as between stations there were either stairs or a nice bear crawl to get you from one to the next. read more

A Beautiful Mess (IND)

See us on the stairs, it’s goin’ down!!  An #NP_IND favorite was rehashed (re#) today as we took it to the south side stairs for a variation of the Hot Mess workout.  Partners took turns doing three lap sets (1 lap = up the south stairs, touch the gold door and back down) as the other partner changed exercises each lap. read more

School’s Out For Summer (IND)

Alice Cooper sound bytes, local newsbytes, and schoolyard apple bites. Yesterday’s pre-workout hype post hinted at some shock rock action in today’s workout, and some tribe members lived up to the hype, the literal hype, by getting geared up in the black leather (or pleather) and headbanger wigs. School really is out, which is quite the relief to some teacher tribe members (y mi esposa), so it all gelled together quite nicely.  Plus, we had four young kids and a teenager show up and rock the workout, or at least the workout watch party.  Plus, plus, NP_IND is now more world famous than ever before as both the 5:28 and 6:15a workouts were covered by Fox 59 (and sort of CBS 4 . . .).  With Shaw at the helm around here, that meant that he had to show his face on those public broadcasts and has now removed himself from the Witness Protection Program and assumed his “original identity”, which the trusty, legal-brief level citable Wikipedia is tells me is an act “always discouraged by [federal protection] administrators”.  But enough about that. The Workout The workout, much like the impromptu bounce, shifted around a bit but ended up remaining a grueling one.  We worked in pairs while staying largely in a group.  Twenty low-five pushups came first, then came a trip up the steps to the gold door, all followed by an eastbound turn to run some sprints.  Around the top of the War Memorial we went to “jump” into some leapfrogs all the way across the west plateau.  We headed back down the north steps to finish off with twenty leg throw-downs a piece while joyously smiling for the camera. DSC_0506 (Hump Day?  Wednesday is LEAP Day around these parts) The Notes
  • Awesome showing by the 5:28; keep that recruiting up!
  • Awesome photos by Jaden Brown; that dude is routinely killing it nowadays.
  • Awesome headbanger garb by a select few.
  • Awesome kid-bringer action by a select few.
Shaw’s got an awesome workout planned for next week, we might have some additional news coverage then too, we’ve got NP royalty coming mid-June, and there’s an added week thrown in before the next Race Day this month (you’re welcome). DSC_0480 (Miles of Smiles) Look for us on Fox 59 again tonight, and make sure to tune in to the national ABC news next Wed (after #justshowup…ing at the workout of course) to catch the NP Founders doing some live workouts from NYC, LA, and Chicago. Have an awesome week! -CaseDawg almost J.D.
