Yup, I’m writing this late on Friday night. And I have a light on. So, by the time you read this, I’ll probably be out doing my final long run before STWM next weekend. Or I’ll have finished my run and will be having breakfast with Michelle whilst we plan workouts for the coming weeks. Or it’s possible that it is no longer Saturday morning and everyone is doing something different. All I can say for sure is that Michelle won’t be hungover tomorrow, which will presumably be reflected in the workouts that we plan.
Bringing People Together (YYZ)
There are obviously a lot of things that I love about November Project, but one the biggest is definitely its ability to bring people together. When we first started pledging, the majority of people who showed up were people I already knew, people predominantly who I ran with and hassled to come join me at crazy o’clock in the morning. Over time, that has changed drastically, and now the people who I knew before they came to their first November Project workout are consistently outnumbered by people I had no idea even existed before they just showed up for the first time.
Musings from the Babysitters (YYZ)
A few words from Ben and Arden last week! I would have posted this sooner but I’ve been busy. Eating. Mainly ice cream.
“So the two of us decided to do a post together today ‘cause why the hell not?
Today mom and dad were away so Arden and I had the honour to take charge of this mornings’ workout with all you beautiful people!
Something About Balls (YYZ)
Wisconsin Notes:
- Balls. Mosquito bites. Ice cream.
- Sweet sweaty workout with balls. Rich what?
- WORLD TAKEOVER DAY
So I’m sat here eating my ice cream trying to think of a witty ball-related title for this post, and all I can really think about is how many times I got bitten by mosquitoes this morning. Did anyone else bitten lots, or did the little fuckers just single me out as breakfast?
November Project Launches Olympic Sebastian Bid (YYZ)
Olympics fever has arrived! With Michelle and I enthralled by the pinnacle of sporting achievement that is the 31st Olympiad currently being taking place in Rio, and the modern pentathlon scheduled to begin tomorrow morning, we decided to host our very own NP Pentathlon.
Proceedings began with an 800m loop of the castle, which everyone crushed in the early morning sunshine. Following swiftly on from that was the equestrian aspect of the event – the ever fun donkey kicks – with rowing (abs) and triple jump (LOADS of broad jumps) rounding out the ‘field’ events. The pentathlon culminated in the inevitable 62m stair sprint.
Splash!! #NPsummit
Wisco Notes:
- Summit happened.
- Monday Popup happened.
- Wednesday workout happened.
- No fun was had at all this week.
- Lots of photos of people having no fun.
Ok ladies and gentlemen, this one’s a long one. I’m writing it whilst preparing myself for tomorrow’s 5 Peaks trail race (i.e. I’m eating too much ice cream and How I Met Your Mother is on in the background). Michelle has also made some additions: this is no solo effort.
Countdown to Summit
So suffice it to say, I’m pretty excited right now. After I finish writing this and uploading the photos, I’ll shower, go pick up my race kit and head to the airport to meet a load of people I’ve never met before but have interacted with to varying degrees on social media. It almost sounds like the plot to a bad horror film.
Ticking the Boxes (YYZ)
I’m going to start with a little shouting. BIGGEST TURNOUT YET. We hit 40 people plus a dog at today’s workout! Michelle and I are secretly (now not so secretly) aiming for at least 50 people at workouts by the time we have our one year anniversary on August 24th, so this is a big step in that direction. In the meantime, please carry on the strong recruiting work! You make this what it is, so the more people you share it with, the better it gets! #recruiteveryone
Sebastians and Pasteis de Nata (YYZ)
This has been a big week. On Wednesday you beautiful people surprised me with birthday celebrations and Portuguese custard tarts (my favourite!) – Michelle, that was a fantastic start to the day, thank you so much. Today we marked one year since our first pledge workout, and the start of this wonderful journey, with a #DestinationDeck outside the Steamwhistle Roundhouse, home of one of my favourite races in the city. And what a deck it was!
Friendly PR People (YYZ)
“So I have a theory that the people who do NP are maybe some of the friendliest people around.”
That is a direct quote from a real message that I received today post-workout, from someone who has only recently joined us. To quote Lauren, the newly-retired San Diego co-leader, “it’s you that make this thing work, it’s you that are changing the world.” I couldn’t agree with that more. For all that people thank Michelle and I after workouts, it should be the other way round: you guys make this what it is, and let’s face it: this shit is good.
