Let’s Go Blue Jays (YYZ)

Ok so maybe I dropped the ball on Wednesday. So now I’m double-blogging. Wednesday and Friday. I’m also almost certainly rambling as a result of sleep deprivation, but that’s just a standard Friday evening. IMG_3414

We’ll start with Wednesday. We hit the new stairs by the Spadina bridge that I’ve been [figuratively] drooling over since they opened a few weeks ago. They’re not quite as nice to run as those at Casa Loma, but there are far fewer pedestrians, and there is a nice hill immediately opposite that we can run too. So we did. We’ve not come up with a name for that workout yet, but we will: it will evolve, but the basic format worked out nicely. Sprint the stairs, squats at the top, down and up the nice steep hill opposite. Burpees, round and down, and back to the stairs. Either we didn’t make enough noise, or the homeless guy sleeping under the bridge just plain ignored us. Maybe next time we’ll take him breakfast. Wednesday was arguably the first cool (read: cold) morning we’ve faced as a tribe, and we nailed it. 23 of you got out there and threw it down with us. We had multiple visitors this week – Jason came by from NP Indy, and Dustin of Operation Monarch fame was also in town. Intervals on the Tuesday night, NP workout Wednesday morning followed by a six hour drive. That guy is a machine! read more

Huff n Puff (YYZ)

The Huff n Puff. That’s what today was called. And it was a fitting name. There’s probably a joke there about how all I can smell is grass right now after all the burpees I did this morning rather than because I’m running down Bathurst, but that might just be my British humour. Probably better than a Three Little Pigs joke though. read more

Friday Morning Love Bites

Ok, so the love bites bit was just to get your attention. There were bites aplenty, but not of the loving kind. It might be September, the mornings might be cooler, but the mosquitoes are still just as savage. Note to self: remember insect repellent in future.

Nice mosquito-squashing technique Jen!

So today we went back to Riverdale East Park for the first time since the pop-up session with Bojan and the Bostonians back in July. It was awesome! Riverdale is huge! We premièred (topical joke: TIFF is in town this week) what we’re imaginatively calling our 360 workout: 360 reps of a variety of different exercises, with 30 minutes to get through as many as you can. As I said at the start of the workout, We weren’t expecting people to finish, we wanted people to see how hard they could push themselves. That was like a red rag to a bull: Jane was off across the field to hit the hill before I even finished talking, with KC, Michelle and Jen hot on her heels. Those girls are FIERCE. They also showed me that 360 isn’t going to be enough for long: with better planning of the hill repeats, more than one person would have finished the workout. Who knew workouts required strategic thinking? Not me: I left all ten of the hills until the end. Not a wise move. read more

#freefeathers #raceeverything (YYZ)

I am now one of those people who go to Starbucks to write blog posts. Long weekends without wifi change us all. But it’s all good: their green tea iced lemon is fantastic, and not at all pretentious. for some reason a wedding party has just walked in.

Yesterday was real, or whatever it is that they say. November Project Toronto made their #raceeverything debut at Night Race Toronto and crushed it. read more

Things Will Never Be The Same Again (YYZ)

Everyone in Toronto knows that Toronto is the greatest city in the world, and if The Economist says that, then it must be true. And now we know that it really is true: Toronto has its very own November Project, which obviously propels it off any scale that The Economist could apply to measuring the greatness of cities. Someone from Montreal shared our Facebook group and rightly admitted that Toronto is better than Montreal – that’s a big fucking deal here in Canada. Now we just need a sports team that can actually win something. read more
