Countdown to Summit

So suffice it to say, I’m pretty excited right now.  After I finish writing this and uploading the photos, I’ll shower, go pick up my race kit and head to the airport to meet a load of people I’ve never met before but have interacted with to varying degrees on social media. It almost sounds like the plot to a bad horror film.

Yesterday’s workout was serendipitous to say the least. We hadn’t planned it this way, but doing a countdown workout as we count down the final few days before #NPSUMMIT seems pretty poetic with the benefit of hindsight. It was hot and sweaty and there were lots of burpees and basically it was everything you could want for a Wednesday morning workout. Or any workout. Or any morning for that matter. We had visitors from the DC, Boston and Edmonton tribes, including Tom, who is running on a relay team made up of NP children. That’s badass!

We were also so so close to breaking 50 people at a workout for the first time – the goal that Michelle and I set at the start of the summer for regular turnout by the time we turn 1 year old at the end of August. Last week, there were 46 of us. Yesterday, we hit 49 people, plus Michelle and I. It took us a while to work this out, as a couple of people had to leave before the group photo. With a little help from you, we can achieve this, and maybe even push on for 60. If ever there is a time to #recruiteveryone, it is now.

Going back to the plot of the bad horror film – for those of you coming to Summit, take this as an chance to really immerse yourself in the November Project spirit and community. Talk to random strangers, exchange sweaty hugs with people you may never see again, say fuck yeah a lot, smile, and generally step out of your comfort zone at every opportunity. We are so lucky that this is happening here in Ontario this year. Make friends, make memories and enjoy every minute of it (no more cliches, I promise), so that when you go to work on Monday and someone asks you how your weekend was, you have to take a moment to compose yourself and stop grinning before you can answer.

This is a reasonable approximation of a grin.

Oh, and social media everything.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Monday morning – there will likely be an unofficial deck workout at Casa Loma to cater for people travelling home from Summit. Unofficial means it’ll still be a killer workout, we just won’t be quite so much like a cult. Keep an eye on Facebook and Instagram for confirmation.
  • If you’re feeling the FOMO/FIMO of this weekend, or super hooked on trail races now, there’s another 5 Peaks race next weekend. Discount code is ‘NOVPROJECT’.
