Olympics fever has arrived! With Michelle and I enthralled by the pinnacle of sporting achievement that is the 31st Olympiad currently being taking place in Rio, and the modern pentathlon scheduled to begin tomorrow morning, we decided to host our very own NP Pentathlon.
Proceedings began with an 800m loop of the castle, which everyone crushed in the early morning sunshine. Following swiftly on from that was the equestrian aspect of the event – the ever fun donkey kicks – with rowing (abs) and triple jump (LOADS of broad jumps) rounding out the ‘field’ events. The pentathlon culminated in the inevitable 62m stair sprint.
Except we are November Project. We are more hardcore than that. So we did it all again. And again and again. No big deal.
Burpees, shockingly, are not yet considered an Olympic sport. We laid out the case for their inclusion in the 2024 Games by throwing down a sweet sweet Sebastian as our burnout. The announcement of that was greeted with a variety of reactions. Relief from those who did not know what a Sebastian is, but who had worried we would do another Sally. Fear from those who knew what a Sebastian is. Confusion from those who did not know what either a Sally or a Sebastian is. And excitement from Arden, because CrossFitters are nuts. Arden went on to smash out 110 burpees in the allotted seven minutes, and took home the gold edible medal. Nice one.
Now, the big one! Next week – Toronto’s one year anniversary as an official member of the November Project community. One year of being badass, of being weatherproof, or being really fucking heart-warmingly positive. So we celebrate. Early morning workout, late night social. Details on both to be announced on social media in the coming days. In the meantime, get recruiting – we’re aiming for a sweet 60 to #justshowup to this one!
