Bring the Thunder, Bring the Heat (YWG)

I owe you an apology, Winnipeg.  Last night when I checked the forecast, and this morning again when I rolled out of bed and saw the epic amount of rain that was coming down, I doubted you. I had no idea how many people would #justshowup this morning, because it has been several (ok maybe like 2) months since we have had to prove we are #weatherproof, and definitely not since our numbers exploded and the tribe has grown exponentially in the last month or so. Were our new tribe members up to the task?  Do they even know what weatherproof means? I wasn’t sure, and for that, I owe the deepest of apologies… read more

Ooga-Chaka (YWG)

I can honestly say that I have never heard a more melodic, harmonious, and beautiful collection of angel voices coming together to produce a sweet lullaby than the luscious rendition of “Hooked on a Feeling” that the tribe produced during the pre-workout hype-bounce this morning… Who am I kidding, there’s no way I can say that honestly.  It was, however, a hauntingly wonderful moment to hear the monkey grunts of the tribe work together at ass-o-clock in the morning to unleash that audacious cover upon the world. The video shall be posted, and rejoiced forever… read more

1400 Fingers (YWG)

Today was a very special day at November Project Winnipeg – 1 year since the first group of 8 friends met on Wednesday morning. Today saw birthday hats, new friends, and more hugs than one could possibly count; 140 people showed up for today’s workout – that’s a whopping 60 more than our previous record.  1 month ago our biggest group was 60; today we had 60 new faces, along with the other 80 regulars that have started calling this tribe family.  Such a special, incredible day deserves a special blog post, so Tom and Rick have each pen’d a short thank you, to show you how much today and every day for the last year has meant to us and to this community. read more

Oh My God, Becky… (YWG)

Oh… My… God… Becky, look at those b…-eautiful humans.  They’re so big, and fast, and out there… They must be one of those November Project tribes or something?

82.  Just take a moment and look at that number.  82 of you got up this morning and decided that you were going to make today the day; the day to be bright, strong, smart, and smelly, all before 7 am.  You came, you saw, you absolutely fucking crushed it.  The sun was shining and the tribe has never looked so big and beautiful; thanks for your good vibes and hard work, friends! read more

We Make the News (YWG)

Today we had an unexpected visitor join us as we jollily skipped back across the Esplianade Riel Bridge. A photographer from the local paper the Winnipeg Free Press has noticed an increasingly large group of loud, oddly energetic, brightly coloured people gathering every week at The Forks.

He literally walked up to us camera in hand and said, “So what’s this all about? We could probably find a pretty spot for a photo on that bridge.” And just like that, we Made The News. If anyone happens to follow any of the other November Project Tribes, or perhaps the Godfathers, Bojan and Brogan, you will notice use of the #NewCh19 and the tag line “We Make The News”.

You Shine So Damn Bright! (YWG)

The sun was out, the trees were budding, and the flowers in bloom. Yet the brightest thing about today was the 67 smiling faces who showed up this morning for what turned out to be an ass kicking. After returning from a quick trip out of town, there is nothing better to reinvigorate my love for this city and my love for this movement like a big group and people hugging, smiling and bouncing with me at 6:15 AM. read more

Free Nose Massages (YWG)

Here at November Project Winnipeg we know that the number one reason people come out every Wednesday morning is their nose.  The nose is the morning coffee of the human body; the bacon to yours eggs, the peanut butter to your jam.  The nose is where it all starts and where it ultimately comes to a satisfactory conclusion of senses and aromas. read more

Faster Than A Dragon… Boat (YWG)

The tribe excitedly hopped on a new opportunity this morning, taking up our boy Derek’s offer to host us for our first Friday pop-up work out of summer 2015 (that’s right, we’ve decided, its summer now and we are sticking to it). Derek and his brother Rob were super generous to host us at the Manitoba Canoe and Kayak Centre where we got our paddle on racing a Dragon Boat up and down the mighty Red River, and I’ll be the first to admit that I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a workout, but damn my arms are still sore as I type this 5 hours later! read more

We looked in to each others’ souls… (YWG)

…And we found pure fucking gold!

Listen people, when it turns to Spring time in Winnipeg people get pretty amped about it, I mean shorts when its 5* C, windows down in the car with the heat still blasting and some other pretty unique and weird shit. All of this is to say that this week was not very Spring-like – so while I hate to accept peoples’ excuses of cold weather, I honestly thought we may see a dip in attendance from our NP_YWG record of 61 people last week. Turns out I was wrong, I was way wrong. When the final count was done, we once again proved that Winnipeggers are awesome, they love free shit and that we love to bond over a little community based fitness, oh and we smashed the attendance record. . . 62 people! read more

On Wednesdays We Wear Neon

So a little mental math for all you faithful followers. If we had 23 people workout when it was -40* and the temperature today at 6 AM was 12*, which by all measures is at least 13 times as awesome – how many people showed up to November Project Winnipeg this morning?

The answer of course is 61. If you got 176, it’s because you forgot to carry the 1 on the long division – common mistake. read more
