The circle of life [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • This week’s workout
  • Golden Square Mile Race with The North Face this Sunday
  • Bern helmet photo contest
  • NP Summit 2018 in Milwaukee
  • Byeeeeee

THE WORKOUT:

…WAS HOT. Folks, friends, pals, SO hot. Even at 6am. Nay, not even hot. Just wet. Luckily, this humidity forces our hugs to last longer because we have to peel our sticky bodies off one another, so that’s good, right?

As for the actual workout, it covered an old fave (vortex) and a new one (workhorse). Both brutal, both 100% teamwork based. read more

From east to west [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • Legs are sore, bums are plump
  • Last call for guest leaders
  • Wings for Life run details (Sunday May 5th)
  • It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later!

Let’s start with business and end with mushy gushy, cool?

This week’s workout

  • She was a fun one:

  • She was a goofy one:

  • She was a hard one:

  • Great job to everyone that came out and celebrated the beginning of consistently above 10 degree weather workouts!

Last call for guest leaders

  • If you would be interested in leading one or a few Wednesday mornings over the summer with Derek and you haven’t reached out to him yet, do it! It’s an amazing experience and opportunity to be goofy and creative and I would recommend that anyone thinking about it dive in!

Wings for Life Run – Sunday May 5th

  • 100% of the $30 cost goes to the organization (research on a cure for spinal cord injury)
  • From the website: “There is no static finish line; no set distance to cover; no time to beat; you set your own goals. Thirty minutes after the race begins, the virtual ‘Catcher Car’ begins to chase the participants. The Catcher Car speeds up incrementally throughout the run and the goal is to stay ahead of it as long as you can. When the Catcher Car catches up with you (virtually for all World Run App runners), your race is over. Let the finish line come to you for a change.”
  • The post-run brunch last year was so good. GUYS. SO GOOD.
  • Actual event registration here. Facebook event here.

Warning: The sappiest of sappy sapperton follows

Welp, after 1.5 amazing years of running around the old port with you hooligans, my time has come to a pause. No, not an end, just an itty bitty break. My heart is in Montreal and I am positive that I am not done with this city. That being said, adulthood is-a-callin’. So, I write this as I am getting ready to hop over to Ontario for 3 months to complete my final internship. Although I am not sure where work and life will take me after that, I can promise that I will work my hardest to have it take me back to all of you lovely people. read more

Getting sum’ summa [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • Congratulations to our NP MTL members that ran Scotiabank!
  • WARM WEATHER, NO GLOVES. THIS SHIT IS EXCITING.
  • We follow minimal rules when Derek isn’t here (#PRday)
  • Global News soon, maybe next Wednesday, more details to come.
  • Reach out if you want to guest lead during the summer!

TBH, most of the needed info was in the Wisconsin notes, so let’s go right to the pictures.

1. Beautiful (or at least above 0 degrees) weather, albeit grey skies, deem the end of the winter and our return to some of our favourite spots in the old port.

2. Said temperature changes also lead to the glorious summer comebacks of many of our pals, and more importantly, their dogs. #truelove read more

Wet n’ wild [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • First day for many of our SLPeeps
  • Spring/summer = the start of #traverbal town
  • Rain can’t stop us, wall sits might
  • Good luck to all those running Scotiabank this weekend!

Since 1 out of 2 of the leaders is studying to be a Speech-Language Pathologist (who apparently talks about NP incessantly at school), about 1 in every 4 members is an S-LP student. Today was a big deal (for my own selfish reasons): My pal Laura, who I have sat next to in class for two whole years worth of Wednesday morning NP recaps, FINALLY agreed to come to a workout! Today, though classes are over, I sit next to Laura again, this time in a beautiful cafe, writing this blog post. Laura told me that she almost fell down while standing up to get out of bed this morning, and then again when standing up to get off the bus. It was a few moments into her tale that she pointed out that I was beaming, literally beaming, at her. Why, you may ask? Well first of all, this was hilarious confirmation that if you badger someone for long enough they will come to NP. Secondly, this was my pride and excitement, knowing that I shared something that I love so so much with some of the best people in my life. Thirdly, I’m always proud to have built that burn. read more

In partners we trust (MTL)

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • Derek is away, we sad.
  • Scotiabank is right around the corner, we happy. (Are you running? Perfect. Not running? You’re cheering! Details on our upcoming sign-making session below.)
  • SUMMIT. Read the last blog post for the best deets here.

Silvana said something to me today that I really liked as we were trying to maneuver a new, more challenging exercise . I lay on the ground, pulling my body up towards hers, in an extremely vulnerable position where if she bailed, I would fall. She looked at me and said “You know what I really love about these workouts?” “What’s that?” “I love how much you trust your partners”. I sat with this for the rest of the morning. She was so incredibly right. Yes, in that moment she was referring to the fact that I was trusting her to not let me descent abruptly unto the cement only to find out if my head is in fact a piñata, but we trust our partners (and the rest of the NP group) in even deeper ways. We trust our partners to give high 5s or hugs (definitely unconventional), we trust them to scream swear words as loud (if not louder) than us, we trust them to cheer us in even if we just met, to learn our names and our favourite board games. We trust them to support our decision to #justshowup and give ourselves the opportunity to be real and be silly. And we support the hell out of them too. read more

It’s raining rain [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • Perhaps we have to work on our #weatherproofness (#weatherproofity? #weatherprooficience?)
  • Still hyping that April 22nd race cheer station! Put it in your calendars!
  • Interested in being a temp co-leader for part of the summer? Reach out to us with the number of weeks that you want in for and why you’d be a good candidate!

This morning was very wet. No really, like super duper extremely wet. Kinda slushy. Also pretty windy. And yet, we, the weatherproof few still managed a hard and strong parkade workout. Props to the powerful (and definitely #weatherproof) few that got through the lil’ storm, and to all of you who stayed in your cozy beds: I guess you’ll just have to prove that you are weatherproof all next winter! read more

First day of spring. Crushed it! [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • Today was confusingly spring-esque while still being -12.
  • Today was also hard. Be prepared for sore legs.
  • Scotiabank race – cheer station.
  • Summer leader auditions to come.

There is a clear correlation between the amount of slippery icey snowy stuff and the level of difficulty of our workouts. What does this mean? It means that last week we had a snowball fight and this week we did tabatas, burpees, sprints, dips, and pushups. So yeah, needless to say that Spring is coming and we are bringing it on. read more

NP royalty [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • Pinkest sunrise MTL ever did see.
  • No more snow = so much more dirt. Whut.
  • Social at September Surf on Thursday the 15th. Facebook event here.
  • Next week we’re doing a St. Patrick’s day theme so wear green!

While Derek is away, we shall play. And by play, I mean not time anything on a real watch, just end an exercise when Mila arbitrarily says “30 seconds” are over (ooops sorry), and take pictures that show us to be the kweens that we truly are. But seriously, great job this morning. You all have the most graceful single-legged hip thrusts I ever did see. Also, impeccable 90-degree form. Look at that! read more

Very real, very official Olympics [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • This morning was very silly and very strange (no surprise)
  • Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oy Oy Oy
  • If you ordered a buff, come get ‘er

In honour of the 2018 Winter Olympics that are currently going on in PyeongChang, we decided (in true November Project style) to sacrilegiously celebrate them with our very own (super serious and v formal) games.

Now, what exactly does it look like for a community of (local) global athletes to host their very own Olympic Games? Well, let me tell you. It looks like a group of adults running through the streets with their arms linked. It looks like fully grown humans holding archery bows made for children while pelting their friends with (poorly aimed) arrows. Mostly, it looks like a lot of cheering (cheating) and even more laughter. read more

1, 2, 3, 4, notre tribu veut faire des squats [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • Mushy stuff
  • Leg presses, head butts
  • “Because we’re happy”

Today I learned a few things. I learned that Laurent has 4 siblings (HBD to your mom!), I learned that Sarah’s favourite number is 14 (and with so much conviction did she declare this!), I learned that Nadine will be an aunty in 2 weeks (eeek!!), I learned that Jemal has lived in Ethiopia, Portugal, and Amsterdam (bomb), and I learned that Nancy hates burpees (JUST KIDDING mwahahah). read more
