Sharks vs. Rastas (a war of pennies and racecars)

This morning was dumb, silly, nonsensical, and HARD. The wind was blowing making the middle teens feel like single digits. Still, a lively group of tribe members gather to shuffle, sit, bounce and yell before the warm up. The warm up took us to the top of Gold Metal Hill renamed “Penny Hill” for this morning’s workout. The workout was simple: everybody paired up and split off into 1’s and 2’s with the 1’s becoming the Rasta team and the 2’s becoming the Sharks team. Each team was given a penny-holder (beanie-style hat) that symbolized which team they were on. For the first part of the workout, teams started on opposite sides of the hill and ran up to the top where the pennies were, each individual on each team took 1 penny each time, and then brought it back down to their respectful penny-holder. Racecars were also at the top of the hill. If a team member grabbed a racecar and it made its way back down to the penny-holder, it counted as two pennies. Sweet math, right? read more

..is what Jeremy Reichenberger said this morning when talking about his plans for Valentine’s Day. In the snow and cold all winter long (so far anyways) Jeremy has been training for a marathon. A marathon that will take place this Sunday in 70 degree weather. The LA marathon. Well wishes and “good feels” to Jeremy while he travels out today and the best of luck (as if he’ll need it) on race day. Just don’t drink that #sixer “trophy” (beer) you won before the race, Jer. read more

Let it snow, let it snow, let it SNOW!!!

The title says it all. Here in MSP, we got dumped on. And it was awesome. A foot of snow in most metro areas in 19 hours. Run-commuting was faster than driving this morning. Everything about #stormkayla (they name winter storms now) was only necessary in order for MinneSNOWta to live up to its nickname. If you were at the Mill with us this morning, bravo. If you were NEW, #fuckyeah. If you slept instead..we missed you. read more

Let There Be Light!

Guys, we saw the sun this morning, that’s HUGE.

This morning was colder than everyone prepared for …so obviously we started the morning by doing some ridiculous outward-high-knee bouncing accompanied with dropping down onto our stomachs and rolling onto our backs in the snow repeatedly. Right? Yeah. After this stupid but awesome kick off, we warmed up down-field (hill, really) and wound up down at the bottom of memorial bridge hill. read more

Time Flies When You’re Getting Sweaty

This blog is going to be sappy. And wordy. And not really about the workout but you should still read it.

It’s been fun seeing who can hack it and #justshowup in the winter time. Some come every week, some come when they can. What really makes this whole thing we do special is that we do have people coming each week. It doesn’t matter how many (of course we want everyone to come);some of our best workouts have had a smaller showing. This morning, was one of those more intimate mornings. The crowd was less robust in number but not in heart. Out there on Gold Metal Hill the banter and cheering and huffing and puffing could be heard throughout the entire workout. Grunting and laughing and even some whining could be heard as we neared the end of the 30 minute set. read more

Frozen Billy Goats Skating In Minneapolis

Tribe members had to re-introduced themselves to one another this morning because the only thing visible on many faces was a friendly set of eyes, ready to #getafterit. Although not as cold as the weatherman predicted (a whopping 1 degree F, he predicted -6), toes burned and fingers ached as we bounced our way into a good f*cking morning and a great day thereafter. read more

Hey Glen, We Went too Far! I Know, I’m Following You Though So Just Don’t Jump Off The Bridge

Today’s workout was both awesome and confusing. With winter finally at full force, any sort of course marking is out of the question. Today’s workout was the newer version of the Stone Arch Shuttle. Tribe members started in the middle of the Stone Arch Bridge at a place slightly raised up, a place we called “the landing.” From the landing, we went out both east and west, sprinting to every other light post and doing workouts. When heading east, the workout done at the light posts was v-ups. V-ups are an awesome core workout that gets you down on your back touching the tips of your fingers to the tips of your toes. When heading west, the workout done was the classic one that goes along with the Stone Arch Shuttle, burpees! Workouts were done increasing by two’s as we moved outward from the center. Tribe members partnered up then split off so that half of the tribe started going east and half started going west. Once the first workout was completed, tribe members would then make their way back to the landing, grab a partner and do 4 partner push-ups in between each east and west workout set and then set out in the opposite direction so the pattern ended up 2 v-ups (east), 4 partner push-ups (landing), 2 burpees (west), 4 partner push-ups (landing) and so on so forth until we got to the end of the bridge on both sides. What happens if you make all the way out to both sides? You work your way back. We did this until the cowbell sang, took a couple of blurry but good photos and were off with our days. The best part of the day completed. read more

#NP_MSP Christmas Edition: A Blog By Rachel White

Some Like it Hot, Some Like it..Slushy?

…And that’s exactly what is was here in Minneapolis this morning. With this Winter’s not so chilly temperatures and many systems moving through, Minneapolis has been a target for precipitation in the form of slush and ice making for slick conditions. Ain’t no thang, #NP_MSP still rocked it this morning. Although the elements made picture taking difficult, the theme this morning was ONESIES/TWINSIES meaning that you were either supposed to dress up in onesie pajamas or dress alike with someone. read more

#sunrise6k 3.0

The morning started out brisk but ended with warm, sweaty hugs. Just as it should be. Today marks #sunrise6k 3.0. Although a bit nippy, the temperature was 15+ degrees warmer than #sunrise6k 1.0 and without wind. The sidewalks were slick but not an issue for the warriors of #NP_MSP.

Starting in the center of the Stone Arch Bridge, the course took the tribe left to travel down scenic Old St. Anthony Main. Another left at the train bridge just past Central Ave and around Nicollet Island to complete the 6-shaped course, turn back around, and come back. Male and Female winners received 2 lb bags of Gold Metal flour to go along with our iconic location. For the men, we had a 2-way tie: Jeremy Reichenberger and Chris McLeod came cruising down the bridge to finish at exactly the same time. Audree Goodew took 1st for the women. Reichenberger also left with the lumberjack award. Also, a special shout-out to our own ray of sunshine Rachel White. She knocked 6 minutes off of her #sunrise6k time. Way to go Rach!
