Western Steps 100

Ok, I realize the title here is a bit of a stretch, primarily because the steps of Alta Plaza are on the south-facing side of the park, but there very well could be 100 steps to the top of AP, so… I’m going with it. (Anyone know how many steps there are? Count and get back to me, thanks.) read more

Good Morning Alta Plaza

This morning, while a couple tall dudes were on TV, and streaming to your computers and phones, and lighting up Times Square on billboards, a group of 20 people showed up to Alta Plaza at 5:30am and worked out with me. It was awesome and made me happy. I am told a handful of people slept in and went to the late workout at 6:30am, but I couldn’t tell you anything about it because I was already on a very important business call with business people about business stuff. We broke the group into 4 groups of 5 (early gang, that is, broke into groups… not the business people) who then took turns telling their groups which exercises to do while they went and ran stairs. While no one tried to pass off “dance party” or “trust falls” as a workout, I did have to sprint to the playground at one point and go down a side, so that was fun, except I learned that I am way too tall to go down a twisty slide, and I got stuck in the middle. ANYWAYS! Thanks for coming out today all 🙂 read more

Memorial Day at NPSF

This  morning NPSF threw down where we throw down every Monday morning; at Fort Mason. In lieu of more entertaining post today (and possibly because I’m so burnt out from CFA studying that I am out of jokes) I’ll be sharing text directly from the Fort Mason Wikipedia page to remind us that the green space we have the privilege of working out on every week once served a very real purpose in defending our country. We appreciate the sacrifices of our veterans and their families. read more

Marathon Monday at Fort Mason

Marathon Monday is arguably my favorite day of the year. First and foremost, it’s a holiday in Massachusetts (Patriots Day) which means no work. I remember having my mind exploded on my first internship in New York when mid-April rolled around and I realized I didn’t have the day off. Second and secondmost, it’s the greatest footrace of all time, in the greatest city of all time, between the greatest distance runners of today. Sprinkle in 200,000 day drinking college students and 40+ friends to follow diligently on the BAA Athlete Tracker, and you’ve got a recipe for the least productive day of work ever. read more

Jump Squat Exclusive

Here’s the exclusive on the Jump Squat Gang that formed at the top of the Alta Plaza stairs this morning: they’re exclusive.

Today’s workout involved 5 exercise stations spread out around the park. The group was split into fifths and then sent in groups to each station. The rules were simple, if at an exercise station you were required to do the exercise until tagged. If tagged, you were required to sprint to the next exercise station and tag someone else. This results in a big continuous loop of folks running from station to station, tagging at random and relieving individuals from their exercise. Mark Noviski dubbed it “The Blender”, which I approve. read more

Zero Newbie Count a Leading Economic Indicator for Tech Market Pullback

This morning Dan Clayton returned to Fort Mason to lead a Monday workout after a 13 month hiatus. He left early and was still late to work, but weirdly seemed fine about it. Kind of seems like he’s phoning it in on all fronts these days. Anyways… I was going through the regular motions starting the workout (btw, 3 sentences is my max for speaking about myself in the third person), but when it came time to introduce the newbies, there was not a SINGLE newbie to be found. A foreboding hush fell about the crowd… read more

Puppies & Commercials In “Virtual Tie” at Alta Caucus

This week we thought it would be fun to celebrate the Super Bowl / three-week-long consumer orgy that is happening in our fair city, and… ugh, I don’t even know where to begin, I literally just had to walk through a metal detector in order to get my afternoon cup of coffee… So we decided to let the tribe pick the winner of Super Bowl 50 by sending them out on two different loops of the park that circled through the center. After each tribe member made a full loop and returned to the center, they were faced with three options; (i) a giant letter P (for “Panthers”), (ii) a giant letter B (for “Broncos”), or (iii) a giant letter C (for “Commercials”), each written in chalk on the asphalt. Naturally “Commercials” was a heavy favorite. And so those were the choices, at least to begin with… read more
