I Want to Ride My Bic-YCLE! (IND)

Shaw promised a funnier blog post this week . . . then he left the blog up to me.  [Prepare yourself; it’s a loooong one.]  But for any complainers, as my kindergarten-teaching wife taught me, “You get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit.”  I’m beginning to wonder if grade-school level references are a subtle secondary theme on the day. [See bounce description for further info; also, in attempting to use footnotes in this blog post—law school has drilled citation standards into my brain while attempting to drain me of any personality in my writing—I found out footnotes don’t work in WordPress blogs.] read more

It’s not ‘Goodbye’, it’s ‘See you later’.

Oh, boy. I have been dreading writing this. Okay, not dreading, more like neglecting. Okay, not neglecting, more like procrastinating. Okay, not procrastinating, more like living in denial. There, I said it. I live in denial. I don’t want to leave. I don’t want to leave you, my city, our tribe. But sometimes you gotta put on your big girl pants and tackle the next challenge. read more

May the 4th be with you.

“Stairs, we will crush. Burpees, we will do.” And that’s all I remember from Biggie Shaws’ super nerdy and super clever bounce this morning. It. Was. Awesome. Newbies be like, “Whaaaat the…?” Fact: the recruiting efforts of the 5:28am crew aint nothin’ to f*ck with. I audibly said, “oh sh*t” as Mary’s posse rounded the corner onto the north landing. Her quadruplet brothers and friends could not have been nicer. Brother Ted even did a double. So the numbers at 5:28am out did 6:15am again, today—but who really cares. We are growing the tribe and Shaw’s gettin’ some ink. And I’m going to miss you fools. More on that later. read more

I’m a Maniac, Maniac on the floor… (IND)

Grand master rapper Biggie Shaws got the vibes flowin’ this morning with his bounce rhyme:

“April showers, morning hours, gives us powers. Grass keeps growin’, we keep showin’. Flowers bloomin’, always boomin’. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!” At this point the newbies and traverballers were like “umm, what did I just get into…?”. Then came the Boom Hugs.  Which is like a chest bump and a double smack-on-the-back hug, with a “BOOM” real loud next to your ear.  Add that to the official November Project vocabulary, Bookman. Muchas gracias, senor. read more

Shamrock O’Clock (IND)

Today’s weirdness came in the form of a Saint Patty’s Day limerick, rainbow high-fives and leprechaun heel clicks. Mo’ Nature’s blustery winds were no match for the deck o cards stationed throughout the relay—Shaw and I could be seen scampering around chasing cards in the dark minutes before 5:28am. Teams of four ran in Shamrock formation #UpAndOver the War Memorial, high fiving their teammate at the relay exchange who were diligently pounding out TNTC (too numerous to count): pushups, tri-cep dips, sit ups, planks, squat jumps and mountain climbers; with lunge walking and burpee broad jumps as means of transportation for good measure. Lots o body weight, nada much running. read more

March Radness (IND)

The #NP_IND tribe showed up and threw down some mighty Quack… Quack… Quack… Quack… Quack… before breaking in March with some Radness.

While the tribe ran the quintessential Indy #UpAndOver, on the east side partners exchanged piggy back rides, making sure to give and receive of course (#HashpoundManners) followed by leg throw downs on the south side, the ever complicated wheelbarrow lunge across the west side and hoistees on the north side. All the grunts were made; especially during the wheelbarrow lunges. read more

#HashpoundShoePuddles (IND)

Can’t Stop. Won’t Stop. Never Stop. That’s how TNF and NP do. A heavy and wet rain, 34 degrees F temps and 50 mile per hour winds couldn’t stop the #weatherproof #NP_IND tribe! Neither could #tequillatuesday for a couple of the hardest of core members. Badassery represent!! Apologies for the sparse photographs, the camera is not #weatherproof. Make sure to log your time on the tracker for a chance to win #RaceDay! read more

I love you more than the snooze button (IND)

Indy Notes:

  • I love this fucking tribe. THE END

Hearts (and quads) were set en fuego today as #NP_IND celebrated Valentine’s Day and spread the love this morning.

The tribe ran a “heart formation” up the north stairs then lunged along the east side of the memorial.  Once on the south side, we ran up and touched the gold door, then burpee broad jumped along the west side of the memorial where it was back down the stairs to the landing.  Waiting on the landing was a “Valentine Station” where the tribe members would make Valentines out of construction paper and put them in the bucket.  Those waiting would hold a plank until it was there turn to craft a card.  After the Valentine, it was 10 decline push-ups and repeat the rotation. read more

Buffman…OH YEAH!!! (IND)

It was a crisp 15°F morning in Naptown (-4°F with wind chill), which means it was a perfect morning to break out our #np2016 buffs!  Not only did they keep our faces warm, but they kept our bodies warm as we decided to copy the workouts done by the stick figures on this year’s buff…at least those that won’t get us arrested for indecent exposure.  Stations were set up around the War Memorial with a healthy amount of running and stairs in between to really get the juices flowing.  Eight stations, nine exercises, ten reps each;  the circuit went as follows (please turn to page one in your buff to follow along): read more

OMAHA!!! (IND)

Even though Peyton is wearing a different horse on his jersey these days, we will always have love for #18 here in Indy.  So, to honor Super Bowl week and what is looking to be Manning’s final game, this morning’s workout took on a football theme.

Tribe members got into teams of four with a quarterback calling the plays.  The playbook consisted of four plays:  10 High-five burpees, 16 Jumping Lunges, 15 Low-Five Push-ups, and 20 Tri-cep dips.  Each play got the team a 25-yard gain.  Once the team gained 100 yards and scored a touchdown, the extra point was a quick run up the north side stairs to touch the gold door.  At any time the field goal whistle could be blown which meant the drive was finished and every team did an up-and-over to score 3 points. read more
