Nadim Will Win

Sure, we have race day and certain accomplishments within NP but we are actually pretty devoid of any real competition and bragging rights throughout all of our tribes…with one exception, Nadim vs. All the other leaders.

Nadim is determined to best every other leader in all NP stats; Games Played, Cities Visited, Names Remembered, Bounces Led, Blogs Written, Cookies Eaten and Eye Rolls at Andrew.  For those keeping track, he is currently WAY out in front in every category and is simply just padding his stats for comfort’s sake.  The only competition within sight is Jen in both the Eye Roll and Names Categories.   read more

Bag Check

Jen and Nadim checked their bags to Camp Winnipesaukee for the weekend for the weirdest summer camp experience I have witnessed on Instagram… Guns, kids, broken beds, wilderness and a bride.  In that order.  💣, 🧒, 🛏, 🌲, 👰.      🧐🤷🏼‍♂️

That left the real troopers here in Edmonton to hold down our reputation as  a bunch of bad-ass mamajammas.  We had pumpkin pie, turkey, Cheezies, not enough sleep, snow and really heavy bags.  In that order. 🥧, 🦃, 😴, ❄️, 💼.  💪🏼 read more

Blahg

Special edition Saturday Blob, I mean Blahg, as Jen and Nadim are away and everything falls apart…

Safety came 3rd, there were no waivers, the picture has the quality of a 1996 digital camera and the blog was conveniently forgotten. 😉

The big win of the morning was the special guest bounce by Rob as he tapped into our collective love of Thunder and nanananana-ing.  Points also go out to the newbies that showed up for their first taste of NP during the Season of Dark and the young crew that did a full week of NP! Rescue Mission

If you slept in today, you missed what can only be described as a miraculous rescue mission.  The “saver” was a killer bridge workout with a slave driver on each end and a bunch of badass people slaying a workout in between them.  The “damsel in distress” was my lame-ass bounce in which I got writers block as soon as it started…  Oh well.  We fought through a Monday blah and ended up with a Monday YA!  read more

Let It Snow!

2 incredible things happened in the past 24 hours…  1st, I got a Victory Royale on free airport WiFi!

2nd, A ton of people showed up on a snowy SEPTEMBER morning to run hills together.  Proof.

My late-game portal drop-in to Scar takeout was pretty incredible, not to mention the celebratory “swipe” dance.  Although this was a pretty fantastic moment at Gate 24 of the Ottawa airport, it still sits in second place for play of the day.   read more

What Happened?

I actually can’t tell you with any accuracy what happened at NP this morning…  Nadim was at a mariachi conference in the middle of Idaho or something and I just got back from winning tree hugging awards at the World Trade Center.  True story.  Jen is somehow still at school even though the janitor left 2 hours ago, so she asked me to take a guess at what went down this AM. read more

Hello Walter

Little known fact:  The bridge took an extra couple of years to actually finish because of Nadim’s alterations to the design.  After Nadim left his full time music gig, he took a job with the City doing, “big city kinda things”.  Across his table came a boring plan for a way to get cars across a river…”Not on my watch!”, he cried!  With NP in mind he added beauty, functional trails and some cool-ass lighting.  Thank you for essentially creating “the Walter”, Nadim.  As much as I enjoyed your drum solo and maraca swinging, I’m glad to see you succeeding in you big city stuff. read more

Welcome to Delhi, Alberta!

In hindsight, today could have actually been a wise decision to have the first ever no-go for NP Canada…  It was initially dark because there was no sun but when we were still looking for the sun by the end of the workout, the smoke decided to hide it a little longer.

We out-dirty-aired New Delhi today and had one of the worst air quality values in the World.  The fires in western North America are no joke and the smoke that has blown our way needs to be taken into serious consideration when we are deciding to push ourselves on the stairs and hills of our city.

Parenting time almost over… but seriously, there’s no medal for sucking in a bunch of smoke during a workout and as leaders we’ll try and make the right calls in the future.

Coughing aside, people did slay stairs this morning and prep work was clearly happening for the second running of the Old 96er.  Good job crew!  Nadim has y’all for hills on Friday (depending on smoke…) and good luck to anyone running any of the distances on Sunday here in Edmonton!  Xo

Tuck Jumps…the worst ever?

Great kick off to the week with 30, one minute exercises brought to you by Jen! (Except for Step Forwards…Nadim owns those)

I got to thinking today, which is always an interesting development…  I introduced Tuck Jumps as the worst thing ever to do for one-minute.  I lied, there are worse:

-eating anything with mustard for a minute

-listening to a three year old’s tantrum for a minute in the aisle of Costco

-a minute on hold with Air Canada waiting to find out why they hate you so much

-a minute of drawing a blank when your family is counting on you for those last questions in Family Feud

-that awkward minute of the song when November Rain goes from slow to fast and you don’t know how to transition with your crush at the junior high dance

-the minute after you discover that Tequila really does “kick in” and that you aren’t some kind of superhero that can do 7 shots of it without consequence

These are all things that are worse than a minute of Tuck Jumps.  What say you?

See you at Commonwealth on Wednesday. Stairs. Boom.

Tidal Wave, Eh!

We are a young country and therefore our traditions are still in experimental mode.  You’ll have to forgive us if we don’t know exactly what we are supposed to do on a Canada Day.  In a country where about 2000 different cultures are represented including those that were here WAY before we started calling this Canada…you really could do just about anything positive and it would be decently on target for our birthday.  Make green onion cakes? Appropriate.  Devour perogies?  Yup.  Drench your beaver tail in real maple syrup while curling in a plaid tuxedo?  Uh huh.  These are all food related…don’t write a blog while hungry?

Anyways.  A workout & tidal wave in a government wading pool seems entirely sane and fitting to ring in our 151st.  In fact, doing something 5 years in a row makes it a legit tradition here in Canada, therefore we are closing in on being on the back of a $5 bill in the next few years.  Go us Go!

To make up for the haha, funfun workout this morning, Wednesday will be your first crack at a 2018 Old 96’er.  The 96’er is the biggest, baddest, craziest shit on the planet.   You have 59 minutes to run/walk/crawl/drag yourself over every step of Commonwealth Stadium.  There are about 87,982 of them (give or take).  Show up at 5:30am if you are going for it.

Here are the guidelines for being a good 96’er participant:

-Show up on time.

-If you’ve completed it before, let the non-96’er tag holders start at the front.

-If you’re just showing up to give a cheer and maybe get 64 oz. of the 96’er done…Start at the back.

-Encourage everyone you pass.

-Don’t stop moving.

-The 96’er is defeated on the upper bowl, don’t destroy yourself on the lower bowl.

-You can make up A LOT of time on the way down and between sections.

-Wake up early enough to drink/eat something.

-Nothing destroys an attempt quite as efficiently as telling yourself you can’t do it.

See you there.
