freshest of the fresh (Ottawa)

It feels like we’ve seen a lot of each other recently. If you’ve been out of town for the last week here in Ottawa here’s a quick synopsis of what’s gone down.

To start last Wednesday, we raced, crushed or attempted to crush some PR’s. We passed off the Positivity Award to a woman within our city who inspires and leads by example for other families, friends and some moms out there too. The Sparkettes are a force to be reckoned with. On Friday some of you met us on the hill. It really wasn’t that big of an occasion. I mean two people who consistently show up decided to commit the rest of their lives to one another. There currently is no better love story than that of Lauren and Seumas except maybe my own parents but then again I did not bear witness to it, so it’s hard to say. These two let us share in a part of their magical, making your skin have goose bumps because of all the love filled day. Even more, Friday morning was another time for us to gather and celebrate with people that we were familiar and unfamiliar with. Members of November Project Baltimore and Edmonton graced us with their presence. read more

Guest Blog: Meet Natalia Where everybody knows your name (Ottawa)

We would like to introduce you to Natalia a wife, mother, grand-mother and member of this November Project community here in Ottawa. If you have yet to cross high-fives paths with her, she will be ready. You can often spot her riding on her bicycle to and from workouts with Gord her husband. Our smiles continue to beam each week when we get to share our mornings with both her and Gord. Thank you for encouraging those that you share meals with, those that you talk to and those friends of friends that find out about November Project through you we are grateful. read more

rise for the sun and a 6k (Ottawa)

This morning you laced up your runners a little bit earlier. As you have heard the #sunrise6k is going down across the globe. November Project communities are using bridges, sidewalks, bike paths, parks and streets to encourage people to get out and complete a 6 kilometre run, race, walk or adventure. read more

Bigger than Ottawa

Wednesday mornings are always a time for us to connect, hug, high-five and share the sunshine. When you roll out of bed you probably don’t expect to meet five to ten new people all before 7am. Maybe you don’t even expect there to be more than 25 people at the workout. Yet, week after week you meet more and more people and become that much more invested in this community. read more

Canada Day 3.0 (Ottawa)

Were you wondering why we put labels on your back? Then we asked you not to find out what was on your on label but laugh make note and maybe keep an eye out for a particular label that said; Hi, I’m 10 burpees, or Hi, I’m hold plank while singing O Canada, or Hi, I’m 10 sprawls or 25 sits ups or 25 squats? Who were you? How did people respond to your name? read more

30 exercises

30 exercises. You had 30 chances to complete 30 different, core-stabilizing, posterior chain building, calf defining and lung burning movements all while smiling. I mean you only really do this because it’s fun right?

Winnipeg Notes (Quick history lesson; we write ‘Winnipeg Notes’ as a version of Cliff’s notes/Coles Notes or whatever you want to call them. In the past, NP cities woud write Wisconsin Notes at the top of their blogs to give a brief summary, as the leaders in Wisconsin argued that not everyone reads the entire blog, or something like that. We realized that at this point, writing ‘Wisconsin Notes’ doesn’t make sense for people from Winnipeg that don’t know that back story from six years ago, so sometimes we write Winnipeg, sometimes we write Wisconsin, just to keep it clear as mud). read more

Belated Birthday Blog

Winnipeg notes

  • FIVE years of NP
  • Global Run Day
  • Yearbook photos next Wednesday- theme is denim
  • June 21- Trash Stigma with Junel at Garbage Hill
  • July 17- Workout at Investors Group Field

Yesterday, we celebrated five years of NP Winnipeg. Five years of showing up for each other every Wednesday morning at six in the morning. Five years of building community and connections. Five years of changing the chemistry of the city we live in. Five years of birthday workouts.

We filled those stairs in front of the CMHR and it may not have been our biggest turnout for a birthday, but it was definitely one of the hardest workouts. There were a heck of a lot of sweaty and smiling faces by the end of it. We had a whole bunch of new faces out there this morning, largely thanks to lululemon bringing the hype with the speakers and a big group of lemons. read more

The time has come for another NP Homework brought to you by our friends at Knockaround and this one has a pretty sweet prize for the most creative submission! But before we get to that, let’s talk about:

The photo with the most votes will be named a winner and officially announced Sunday, June 30th.

The Prize. A trip for one person to November Project Summit in Las Vegas, NV (flight and hotel) + a different pair of Knockaround sunglasses for every NP workout week for a full year (52 pairs of sunglasses)! Incredible, right!?

So get your creative hats on and start cranking those homeworks out.

rock paper scissors 2.0 (Ottawa)

Okay so GIANT human rock-paper-scissors. We cannot take credit for this workout as it was created and tested in Boston before travelling and making it’s way to Ottawa. But let us tell you there is nothing more hilarious than watching all of you become a human ball aka rock, create alligator arms to replicate scissors or make some sort of a large star that is supposed to resemble a piece of paper. read more
