NovemBern Contest

Dear November Project Universe, the time has come for another NP Homework, and this one is going to be stellar. It involves bicyles, the great outdoors, painted #GrassrootsGear shirts, and of course, awards for the best submissions. This year, our friends from Bern Unlimited will reward 10 of the funniest, silliest, most creative, or as we call it “The X-factor’est”, submissions from around the world with Bern Helmet of the winner’s choosing. To be selected in the exclusive group of 10, you have to follow the rules below: read more

Pots and Pans

Were you tired of hearing the music fade and the sweet sound and a metal spoon hitting a pot this morning? Was there enough time in between each fire drill to make you forget that we were running a fire drill this morning? Well if the answer to those questions is yes or no we are still overjoyed with excitement you showed up this morning to run some stairs in this humid, hot climate and get some fresh, new #grassrootsgear. read more

Splish and a little splash (Ottawa)

Every single Wednesday at the stadium so far  we have had warm sunshine wake us up. Today, we had warm rain drops- a shit ton of them, fall at a rapid pace to create an adventurous and exciting workout. We may even call those tribe members bad ass. It’s a badge of honour to look out your window in the pouring rain and grab whatever clothing and equipment you need to brave the storm and still show up. It also becomes the norm. You’re no longer surprised that you show up to the other humans who did the exact same thing. It may not happen right away- if you’re newer and this was the first time you may have had to brave the storm and you decided to turn over and go back to sleep in your warm bed- we still love you, but know you are capable of more. But maybe you didn’t know that we NEVER cancel a workout. Now you know. You now know that you will have others waiting and excited for you to join the badass crew battling the elements. The pictures might even give you a little FOMO. This kind of morning is the weekly battle in the -30 season. This just gave us a taste of what it’s like to be out when nobody is out, to test your body and its limits, to be a badass who shows up, LITERALLY no matter what. It’s a badge of honour and it very quickly becomes the norm and a NBD (no big deal). So next time you have the opportunity to practice for the winter and the dark, do it. You’ll be happy you did and you’ll have others with you too. And it’s ALWAYS a blast leaving knowing you started your day just a little bit differently than your regular days. read more

MoM and other positive things (YOW)

November Project San Diego MOM

Meeting of the Minds (MoM) took place in California – at Big Basin Vineyards this past weekend. This event was four days in the woods with 100+ co-leaders from 8 countries,  and 49 cities and was an incredibly powerful weekend. Thank you to Brogan Graham, Bojan Manderic, Laura McGreen, our HQ team and the NorthFace , our official partner, for making it happen and bringing this master piece together to keep this movement heading in the forward direction. read more

SO MANY PRs (YOW)

Today we had PR day. Today we moved. Today we moved through A LOT of stairs. Maybe some of us moved up and down more stairs than we ever had. As you’re reading this- think about your results today. Did you make progress? Did you PR? You may feel progress from the way you felt, how much longer you were able to double step, how much longer you maintained your pace, faster down the stairs, and less recovery needed, the number of sections you completed, or you may feel the effects this time tomorrow or the next day. Was there anyone you told about your progress today? If you did, awesome, have them hold you accountable. Check in with that same person next time. Are you friends on FB yet? Send them a message next week and next PR day to make sure they have their alarms set. Find your accountability buddy. The stairs allow us to have an objective measure of how much we are improving. But you don’t improve if you don’t show up. Maybe you need a kick in the ass and a friend to make sure you do. read more

Win the morning, win the day (YOW)

You know that feeling you get when it’s 7am and you’re walking away from the NP workout, feeling like your morning was fulfilling and you quickly forget how hard it was to wake up? Or that 2 times a year you wake up for the sunrise and think about how beautiful the world is how much you can see when you’re awake when most people are asleep? You think to yourself every time like you should do that more often? Well this morning thing is something real and you CAN make it happen more than twice a year and with other people at that. If you win the morning, you win the day. read more

Canada Day 2.0

WISCONSIN NOTES

  • WHAT A WAY TO START THE DAY
  • NEWBIES. Like new babies that were just birthed. Except we love these first timers more than new babies.
  • Did you actually think we were going to run in between all those fences?
  • Corners and a little hill
  • DOGS, DOGS and more DOGS.
  • Lots of Hoistee J’s
  • One team collected 91 flags.  One team had between 4 to 11 flags.
  • Everyone now knows what a Bojan is.
  • FLAGS, how cute are those flags. We can thank the nice offices of Catherine McKenna, Will Amos and David McGuinty for them.
  • #positivityaward was handed out this morning to Stephen.  If you have yet to meet this community fitness junkie head out to any local, free, outdoor event and you will surely be graced  by his presence.  We feel so fortunate to have such a positive, active, overenthusiastic and caring human join us each and every week.
  • We asked you to close your eyes and imagine one person who would be most likely to attend November Project.  Who came to your mind? Why haven’t they shown up yet? What are you going to do to have there next week?

This morning was EPIC, outta this world BAT-SHIT AMAZING.  To each and every single one of you that showed up, thanks for celebrating extra early with us.  It takes a community to raise a child they say. We believe that a community makes November Project Ottawa that much more worth waking up for and showing up to. Here’s to growing that community and family each and every day. read more

Say CHEESE (YOW)

This morning we gathered in TD Place to bounce, run stairs and have a photo op.  It actually went a lot smoother than I imagined in my mind. Not to mention this year we went PROFESH (Thank you Rebecca Wareham Photography). Not that last year our editing queen Lauren didn’t do a fantastic job but we know the shit that were really good at and editing is not that shit. Now onto the really important part and there is no lying here we are going to break the internet. You read it here first.   Not kidding get ready FB, Insta and the far away land of twitter for a yearbook photo bomb drop. Now is the time to let all your distant and close friends of the interworld wide web know that November Project is the shit. It is not a once in a while event that occurs nor is it a run club(we do love run clubs though). This is a grassroots free fitness movement for you, your mother and her gaggle of friends plus her neighbours.  The workouts are intended to challenge and push you, make you work and work HARD. You show up knowing that other people will be there no matter what the temperature, location or weird clues we give you on Tuesday night. And you can expect to hug, high five and smile at more strangers before 7am than never before. So show some people what they’re missing out on at 6:29am, make them jealous of your new profile picture and out of it all introduce someone to the November Project Ottawa family. read more

It’s been three weeks.  Three weeks since we have not felt the impact of the stairs.  Maybe you were grateful for the time we spent in the Aberdeen Pavillion completing movements and running past giant tulips.  Maybe, you found your groove in the #sunrise6k or maybe just maybe you have been counting down the days till we found ourselves in TD Place Stadium again. read more

Be a change agent (YOW)

Happy Global Running Day.  It also is some weird coincidence that today we ran 6k starting at 6AM and it occurred on the 6th of June which is also the 6 month of the year.  Just kidding, everything we do is intentional.

While running this morning, did you recall the last time you ran 6k and how it felt different from this morning? Was this the first time you ran a 6K? We encourage you to write your time down. Keep a record of how it felt and what the experience was like, you’ll be happy when you look back next 6K and see how far you’ve come. If you keep showing up and moving forward, it will always be hard, but you will be better. read more
