we waived, and found the funk

“Uptown Funk you up, Uptown Funk you up”
Hello Tribe!! Another fantastic morning for us yet again – we are blessed!

WE (Graham and I ) are sooooooo pumped by the amazingness that is this group of activators and motivators. Each and every one of the amazing smiling faces that showed up today made an impact. Some mornings are hard… yes even for us leaders. But when 100 smiling happy faces show up and talk and laugh and hug and then really wake up by singing to each other it gives everyone the energy they need to start the day. read more

#payday

Someone from my swimming life sent me a message this last week. They live in Toronto and they asked me a series of questions: What is the November Project? Where do I have to go to? And then he asked me a very weird question “How much does it cost?”

I guess he didn’t see all the hashtags #free, #freefitness, #freehugs, #freehigh5s, #justshowup #itsfree. read more

The big BIG BIGGEST YVR HAS EVER SEEN

Question?

What do you get when you add an amazing group of people that is our November Project tribe to 100, no 200, no 500 Lulu Lemon leaders, drivers, managers, and smiling faces?

You get 600 amazing people waking the Westin Bayshore up with a ton of FuckYeah’s and even more laughing bouncing.
I am constantly amazed by what this little “thing” that we do shows me. There is an amazing ability for people that have never met before to become friends, smile, hug, and just end up having an amazing start to their day. I am constantly reminded about how much you all bring to the table! read more

Today was all about community

we notice when people are gone. we notice when someone misses a workout. we are amazingly excited to see those people come back.  This week we noticed all these things.

I had plans to celebrate some of our tribe for the amazing things they did in the last week or two. But they were gone and we were all sad.
I got really excited when some of our members came back from vacation and from all those things that life gave them as opportunities.
But what today was about was celebrating and supporting our co-leader who was running a 6 day stage race through the desert. read more

Or as we learned in the lion king 1.5 “Whatsonthemenu, itsmyfrindpumba”
These are the magic words that you use when you are trying to wake up the sun. Someone forgot to tell the sun that we start at 6:29, which I guess is a leader fail (sorry team). So with the Sun coming up for the first time after our workout started we reminded the sun to come up this morning in the way that we were taught as kids… by singing the Lion King song. read more

A little to the left…

We missed you, and you, and you, and you. And just like the first day of school we will never have a year book picture for you come the end of the year for 2015. You can upload a selfie to the facebook group if you want.

But today was special for all kinds of reasons! 1 it was a wednesday, 2 the sun came up in Vancouver and no i am not making this up at exactly 6:29  making today extra special 3 we had 8 #traverbal’s come and crush it with us from places like… oh i don’t know just the newest tribes of Toronto and Seattle! How cool is that? read more

You won’t believe what happened next!

Well after a few weeks of requests and a lot of beautiful mornings. I was scanning #21humpbeat on the Insta this morning to see what the rest of the world was up to. A lot of pictures of beautiful sunrises were posted so I figured that we should use the mountains for once in our group photo.

We worked hard today as always and had some new walk-by recruitments.  But what I wanted to share today was something that I know every person that comes to a workout either with us or with any of the other tribes will understand. I found the most eloquent words (talking about ultra running) that fit so well with what we do. Especially since we have so many ultra runners in our group so I thought I would share them. read more

A WHOLE NEW WORLD

OK so it is not a surprise to anyone that I am a fish. My twitter name used to be hortnessfish before something happened and I had to adopt @hortnesswims as my handle. Swimmers we know we are our own breed. I used to say always that we were family, my team mates are by definition my brothers and sisters and I would jump in front of an offensive lineman to protect them. read more

Worlds biggest/longest/ bestest

So no everyone knows this but I am a former world record holder… not in the pool (that shit would be crazier than you can imagine) but I was part of the worlds largest orchestra in 2000.

Since we have started our tribe here in Vancouver we have gone for worlds biggests a couple of times. We made the worlds biggest human cinnamon bun, worlds biggest human dart board, etc. But today we topped it all and we will have to wait until something else happens across all the tribes to go for the next biggest cause TODAY LADIES AND GENTLEMEN WE DID SOMETHING FUCKING AMAZING.
My fearless co-leader Graham Snowden, who is used to doing crazy stuff all the time, running through wild game reserves in Africa, swimming (without a cage) with sharks, running through the grand canyon self supported for kicks. Googled World record Hi-5 chain. I know what you are thinking NO WAY but yes way… today being the sea wheeze hosted in Vancouver by Lulu they had package pickup… how big do you think this line was for a race that hosts 20 000 people annually? Oh big enough to wrap around the Vancouver convention centre and down on to the sea wall… so what did we do. We rallied the troops. read more

Step it up…. to the wall

*gasp *wheeze *gasp *seawheeeeze week here in Lululand (yes Richmond is actually called Lulu island) and yes that massive company did start here.

As a result we got some sweet #traverbals and saw a couple of sweet members of #21humpbeat come out to this morning’s workout. We even got to learn some sweet stuff from miss Lauren! She showed me how to give a hug without arms and give a sweet trap massage at the same time…no hands. (sorry Angel) 😉 read more
