#996 Turkey

I loved watching the effort from everyone during 28:19 day. It’s always refreshing to see people pushing themselves and finding out what they have in that tank (not a library reference… or is it).

Separately, I was called a turkey today (in a loving way, I think). I was good with it, because while the comment had nothing to do with American Thanksgiving, it reminded me that our friends down south are celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow. So, I hope all our friends down south, and our American friends living up here take some time to be thankful. read more

#993 – Looking back at a fun story (YEG)

As we near workout #1000, I figure I’d go back and tell a miracle story from one of the workouts that was between 1 and 993.

If you’ve ever been to NP in the winter, you’ve probably heard us jokingly say to zip up your valuables during the workout. While we are completely serious about it, we laugh and joke about it because it reminds us of this story. read more

#992 (YEG)

#992 workouts, and we still managed to find a new spot to workout! I’ve often run down the promenade, but we’ve only really worked out at the east end of it. As a side note, there multiple busts (statues? heads? head statues?) along the promenade which are somewhere between where we were today, and where we have been on the other end. That sentence is confusing, but if you ever want to wander and find them, you now know where they are. read more

RunFam Friday Blog

This is pretty bold. We let the RunFam babysit for a few days and they’re really pushing the envelope (where did that saying come from?). First, they made all the kids do the work. Next, they bribed everyone with treats…. TWICE! And to top it all off, they didn’t even bother to send me a group photo today. Instead, they just sent over a picture of themselves. BOLD! read more

A Blog (YEG)

Today runfam sitters got the call,

To lead the workout for us all.

There were cards to be found,

For you to bring down

We hope everyone had a ball.

I should also note that our “Np parents” have done this just under one thousand times, and we are honoured that we were asked to help while they take a short break.
Thank you all for showing up today, it was awesome! read more

#989

If you’ve been counting (you likely haven’t), today was our 989th workout. It also means that we are a few weeks away from workout #1000.

#1000

I’m going to keep this countdown… up… (countup?) going until we hit #1000. I can’t wait. It’s a pretty cool milestone that I’m pumped about. read more

Fun with Numbers (YEG)

It’s great to see so many people dress up for the kick off to November Project’s 8th birthday month. How about the two Forest Gumps on the hill?

Let’s jump right back into a history class. Or maybe this is a stats class. It’s some kind of class.

Memory Lane (YEG)

Alright, instead of the usual “you’re awesome” blog, let’s take a trip down memory lane. Note: This may or may not be useful to you in the future.

You see, many many years ago (6), we embarked upon our first dark season together. In October 2013, we had 7 NP tribes as we called them back then (more on why I choose not to use that term anymore) and there was one blog every day that captured what each city did in their workout. That November, each city decided to post their own blogs. Back then, we were also in the early planning stages of the first NP Summit. It was held in Edmonton in December 2013 with the above mentioned 7 cities. It was more of a leader gathering back then, and we added on a quick party (read: watching Andrew play hockey) at a local pub so that everyone could take part. Other than that, the leaders were locked in a windowless room in downtown Edmonton. October was also the time where we were getting ready for our first Halloween together. Everyone wore costumes. I had a really lame boxing costume. Andrew was a viking. Jen probably put on her skeleton shirt. We just dressed up in whatever we wanted to because, well, it was fun. Speaking of, Halloween is coming up and there will be a day to dress up. Stay tuned. Anyway, back then, we were still trying to figure out how to best fit everyone at the stairs. We tried a number of things, including 2 workouts in the morning, running up the rails and only letting people wearing shorts actually go up the stairs, but eventually landed on exercises and high-fiving the Constable. We were also tested taking photos up top, or being loud up top, but quickly found out that our neighbours didn’t appreciate the fuck yeahs that early in the morning. Oh, while we’re at it, we’ve used the same lights on the stairs since we started. We’re still thankful that our friends at MEC donated them to us. This ends today’s trip down memory lane. Stay tuned for future editions. read more

Thankful for babysitters (YEG)

There are few certainties in life. You’re born, you live, you die, and at 6 AM on M/W/F there WILL be a workout, even if at 5:58 AM there are only 6 people in the middle of Walterdale bridge. It was cold, it was raining, it was dark. The babysitters (almost) forgot some of their lines, but NP Canada showed up and between the sitters and all the helpers, we nailed this workout! The rain killed our sneaky idea for getting the group to do our blog homework so I’m going with plan B: top 5 list, since it’s the internet + Thanksgiving. read more

Feels like the first time (YEG)

On Wednesday, Jen talked about how when we started building this community back in 2013, it was centered around the Royal Glenora Stairs. Between Wednesday and today, we also had some people return from those early days who we haven’t seen in years. I think it’s pretty cool to know that even though they may not have been able to make it the past while, they can still count on the community being there for them when they need it. It’s really cool to see and I’m sure it feels like they showed up again for the first time. Speaking of first times, do you remember yours? More specifically, do you remember the first person you met at NP? How about the last person you met at NP? Was it one of those people from the early days? If you don’t have remember (and even if you do), you have another 3 opportunities to answer those questions next week. read more
