Two years ago today it began. The quest of two dudes in New York City to attempt to join something larger than themselves. We know, that’s a tall order with our egos. The attempt to add to the #freefitness and #freecommunity movement that is November Project. Oh boy, what did we get ourselves into? Fuck!
#Sunrise6K – The Right Way (NYC)
Guest Blogger: Jason Kulig
Today was NYC’s Sunrise 6k. We ran. We ran fcking hard. Dozens and dozens of people showed up on the Hudson River to “brave the elements” and participate in our third and final Sunrise 6k of the year. Sure it was probably over 60 degrees warmer than when we first completed it in February but with no TV crews to film us this time, it was challenging waking up this morning.
Thank You For Being Here (NYC)
THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE! Thank you for always being there, every week. #JustShowingUp for one another. November Project builds communities through sweat, burpees, and hugs. Today we took a few moments to express how thankful we are for one another.
Just a few key moments of thanks from today’s sweat-fest.
Field n Track (NYC)
Today we got our Field n Track ON! We’re earned our weekend by crushing some Box n’ One turf action followed by some old school 4x100m relays. We made it known who was the boss of this field and this track. We brought it and brought it HARD!
We couldn’t start without our proper warm up. We were a little to the right, but we did right ourselves eventually.
Marathon Hype (NYC)
Autumn is now in full force–almost seems passed us on some days. It’s that time of year again. We’re heading straight for November. Not November Project directly, but the first Sunday of November. In New York City that means one thing and one thing only. The New York City Marathon. Today we met, we worked out, we hugged, and we hyped the shit out of this mother fucking race. The largest marathon in all of the universe. We have racers, volunteers, and marathon staff all ready to crush this epic event.
Hunger
Just over two years ago, I started running. I’m not really sure what drew me to start. It might have been the desire to do something I could be proud of. It was certainly an outlet for some pent up aggression and energy, and I went all in. Running was a way for me to get inside my head without consuming myself with doubt. It was a way to assert myself, to tell myself I can. Racing became a way of simultaneously accepting and pushing myself, recognizing my limitations and then figuring out which of them were physical and which were in my head. Racing became a way of learning who I am.
Queen(s) for a Day (NYC)
In case you didn’t notice, New York City is comprised of five unique and fabulous boroughs. NYC is not just the Empire State building, Central Park, Grand Central Station, Broadway, Times Square, or the Statue of Liberty. It’s way more than that. NYC is wonderful. Did you know that Brooklyn by itself would be the third-biggest city in the land? And Queens? Well, Queens would be the fourth-largest city in America. Queens is also the world’s most ethnically diverse urban area. So today, we went to Queens.
What Goes Up, Must Go Down (NYC)
The forecast looked bleak, but that didn’t phase #Paulleak. Nor did it phase the rest of this NYC Tribe. We’re fierce, we’re #weatherproof. We hit up a familiar location–the hill on W68th. Oh, this hill is steep. This hill makes it burn. This Hill Is Good!
After an epic bounce to get our heart rate up and our energy booming, we split up into 2 group and found partners. B-U-D-D-Y! One group started on the hill. One partner planked in the mud while the other sprinted up the hill. The trick was all in the swap out. The partner who ran down the hill at to straddle the planker and then go under the other like a “Bojan.” Otherwise it would be boring. We’re not boring.
Around The Carousel (NYC)
The sun set the East River and the Manhattan Bridge ablaze this morning. Rumor was it going to be a beautiful weekend, so the parents decided to get away for the weekend and travel to Utah. Babysitters were hired. Permission slips were signed for a field trip to Brooklyn and carousel rides in Dumbo.
Do you know where the Pumphouse is? I’ll check it out! (NYC)
Today we headed downtown towards the World Trade Center to get our sweat on. We pumped our body weight hundreds of times at PumpHouse Park. Workout consisted of a blazing circuit around the Pumphouse oval, burpees, squats, and dips. Repeat for 25 mins.
