Too cold? NEVER [MTL]

Now that the weather in Montréal has officially dropped close to the freezing point, it is time to start thinking on how to be “weatherproof”. Actually, almost everyone can work out safely in cold weather. We know this at November Project. No temperature is too low to exercise outdoors as long as you suit up to minimize cold weather risks. Some of us proposed a few recommendations after the workout today that I would like to share with you all. SO, here is YOUR ACTION PLAN for being weatherproof – Canadian style: read more

Good morning lucky! [MTL]

According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of luck a is:

a: a force that brings good fortune or adversity;
b: the events or circumstances that operate for or against an individual.

However, does anything – good or bad – really happen by luck? I would argue that there is an order and precision to the functioning of our world. When an occurrence is deemed lucky, it’s in fact usually the result of a sequence of events that occurred before the “lucky” or “magical moment” actually happened. read more

Sh** happens [MTL]

Let’s face it… sh** happens. It happens to all of us. Whether you are going through a divorce, you learned that your husband is cheating on you, you got an F in molecular biology, you got a DUI and lost your licence to drive, or you ate 3 Poutines and you now have permanent bowel dysfunction, whatever…these things happen. It might have been your fault (the poutine IS CLEARLY YOUR FAULT), it might not have been your fault.  It might have been something that has been building up for months or something that just happened yesterday. At this point, what is important to remember is that you are NOT alone. We are all dealing with our sh**, it’s how we plan to deal with it that will make us who we are. read more

Post half-marathon PR day [MTL]

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montréal Marathon is usually a sign of our entrance into the autumn months of October, November and December in Montréal. Fourteen degrees – 14C (58F) weather is the typical weather we expect in this time of year but like many of North Eastern cities, Montréal has been hit with extreme weather and humid conditions. So hot and humid that it forced the Montreal Marathon organizers to cancel this year’s Montreal Full Marathon. A first I believe. Fortunately, runners had the option to run the half-marathon distance at an earlier start in order to control heat conditions. read more

Cooler weather advantage [MTL]

Over the past few weeks, we have seen the days slowly getting shorter and shorter to the point that this morning’s workout almost started in the dark. September calls for Autumn weather and… some kickass workouts. Now that we have the hot and muggy summer months behind us, we could get back to what us Canadians know best: to workout in colder weather. But, what is a better – a hot or cold weather workout? It all depends on what we’re trying to accomplish. read more

Ollie Ollie Octopus [MTL]

WISCONSIN NOTES:

  • Ollie Ollie Octopus = fun times.
  • Nadine was late once again this week. We’ll have to start handing out penalties (ie burpees) to her soon 🙂
  • NP MTL Social event is now planned for the 20th of August, so mark your calendars!!
  • Shout out to NP PHILLY. Thanks for swinging by Adam. Come back soon 🙂

Ollie Ollie Octopus (or the British Bulldog like some might call it) was the setting for this week’s NP Montréal workout. Since I was ‘it’ and had the generous task to tag out fellow tribe members, it is only normal I took duty to write this week’s blog post. We really had a lot of fun this morning. It felt like we were back in grade school gym class trying to tag our friends in the schoolyard. However, 15 pushups were the major punishment. Everyone had his or her own technique to try and dodge the tag but we ultimately found a way to catch you all. Boom! You better bring spikes next time Sulay!!! read more

PR day: a lesson in history [MTL]

Wisconsin Note:
– Pretty simple: Montréal kicked ass this week/PR didn’t have a chance.

PR day wouldn’t be PR day without a lesson in history. We shared history facts on Jacques Cartier and the French Colony here in Canada before. Now let us talk about Nelson’s Column (French: Colonne Nelson), the monument that overlooks our weekly playground – Place Jacques-Cartier – here in Montréal was erected in 1809. The monument is dedicated to the memory of Admiral Horatio Nelson. It is the city’s oldest monument and is the oldest war monument in Canada. The Admiral was noted for his inspirational leadership, superb grasp of strategy, and unconventional tactics, which together resulted in a number of decisive victories, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. Hence our Seven-Nation Army Bounce! read more
