Cooler weather advantage [MTL]

Over the past few weeks, we have seen the days slowly getting shorter and shorter to the point that this morning’s workout almost started in the dark. September calls for Autumn weather and… some kickass workouts. Now that we have the hot and muggy summer months behind us, we could get back to what us Canadians know best: to workout in colder weather. But, what is a better – a hot or cold weather workout? It all depends on what we’re trying to accomplish.

Research shows that you can harness hot and cold conditions for your overall training gain. In cold conditions, you often can exercise farther or longer because your body can regulate its temperature a little better. In other words, frigid conditions could be used to your advantage to train longer. However, sustained endurance training in the heat has one major benefit cold-weather training does not, better overall performance. Consequently, we are lucky to be in an environment that allows us to work out in both conditions. So then don’t let upcoming chilly outdoor temps have you sleep 1 hour more in the morning. Embrace them and keep coming out to November Project.

Today’s workout was a charm and showcased two highlights of Old Montréal – a top destination spot for all travellers. 1. Montréal City Hall or Hôtel de Ville de Montréal. The steps facing the City Hall allow for an awesome “City Hall” warmup session

2. A special serving of Mila’s special at the Jacques-Cartier Pier: a long time favourite of ours with wide spaces and spectacular views of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge and the Ile Saint-Hélène Island.

Here is a recipe for Mila’s Special – served weekly (Wednesdays):

Mila Special

Ingredients:

– 3 partners P1, P2 and P3
– shit load of bench dips
– infinite leg ups
– endless running
– Spectacular views

P1/P2 switch every 20 bench dips, continue like this until runner is back, then rotate. Partner 1 does leg ups, Partner 2 does bench dips & Partner 3 runs out/back on Pier.
