The New Year has begun. The opportunities for NP_YYZ to grow and prosper are numerous. We have come a long way since 2015 and we take with us into 2016 all that we have learned and value because, after all, somebody has to save our sense of community. This is where the Force of November Project flies in and the Tribes Strike Back against all that divides us and impart a New Hope that in any city, in any part of the world, we can collectively be One. Equals in the WorldTakeover using the Force.
End of the Year and we’re STILL HERE!
Yup. The title sums it up. NP Toronto is going strong and we’re so happy we don’t know whether to shit or go blind (one of my favourite lines from one of my favourite books, “Angela’s Ashes).
It was dark. It was cold (1C). But we still had 3 yahoos show up in shorts….nevertheless they are the coolest yahoos I know (Sam, Ryan, and Krizka) and I am intrigued to see how long they will dare to keep showing up in shorts. I think I’ve just started a competition. Now we’ll see who caves first and who sticks it out the longest. Remember, you all signed waivers. If you get frost bite it’s your own fault 🙂
Back by Popular Demand!
Yeah we did! If you missed the action yesterday….you missed it. And it was fun. So much fun that we had a TBT a day early. Back by requests and positive feedback was the Deck workout. More accurately described as the deck of death toward the end of the workout.
I don’t know about all y’all but my chest is HURTING! And I love it 🙂 Don’t love putting on my sweater or back pack today but it gives some satisfaction once they’re both on and I remember with a smile why I am feeling this pain. Group #1 (avec moi) had about 4 heart cards in a row. Hearts were push ups. Enough said.
I just call it the “DG” workout
This morning was special for several reasons. First, the temperature was pleasantly mild for past the midway mark in November. Yessss.
Second, we gave the positivity award to a kick ass guy that is no stranger to NP. Third, last week our Positivity Award recipient told us about how much fun he had playing “Biggest Fan” with the DC tribe, so we gave it a go today and it was a big hit 🙂 Fourth, today’s workout was a recommendation from legendary NP leader Daniel Graham aka “DG.”
Let’s go Blue Jays!
Tensions were high this morning. No one would admit it, of course. Workout comes before play but we all know what was really behind the scenes. It’s sudden death; if the Jays don’t win tonight they are out. If they don’t win the two games after that, they’re out. So many Torontonians are invested in today’s outcome, not necessarily because they are die hard baseball fans, but mainly because the city hasn’t had this much hype about our team in 22 years. It’s been 22 years since the Blue Jays have been in the playoffs and the general population would reminisce to a memory long ago when they were World Series Champions….I was 7 years old. No matter, there is renewed hope in the air and the city is on tenterhooks (I’ve always wanted to use that word) to see if they can muster the absolutely necessary victory tonight. Concentrating on the baseball game at 6:29am this morning was not an option though, there was hard work to be done and it demanded a focus that left very little room for daydreams……unless it’s when you’re holding the plank position, it is then that daydreams are you very best friend!
PB Wednesday! Pride, Power & Bad Ass Mother Day ;)
First things first. NP YYZ needs a better camera. iPhones are great n’ all….but they don’t always do the captures of the day justice. So, you’ll just have to imagine how great today’s photos are.
It was a dark and cool morning yet out of the shadows the tribe came. Seemingly one by one, each person dedicated to themselves and committed to throwing their all into PB Wednesday. There were scores to settle, from previous efforts and the investment of today for the victory of tomorrow, which all transcends into one month from now. The tribe was greeted with an enhanced “bounce” (we’re not even close to unlocking our potential) and surprised with the happy news that due to increasing numbers Sam and I’ve had to alter the PB course. Instead of up and down the stairs; it’s up and down the steep long hill! There were a few groans at this announcement but those sounds quickly dissipated once the count down began. Minds were focused. Bodies were ready. 30min begins in 3….2….1. GO!
NP Summit and We Love It!
The most anticipated event of the year has come and gone and it was certainly worth all the hype. So many incredible opportunities and experiences to name. I’ll do my best to summarize the weekend concisely but with due diligence to its magnificence, while not falling into the trap of writing an essay very few of us have the time to read. Not because we cannot prioritize but merely because I have a feeling many of the tribe will be doing the exact same thing. We will want to read it all and speaking of busy, I haven’t had the chance yet to sit down and investigate whether this assumption is true. In any case, here is my glowing report. No promises that it won’t turn into an essay. English Major problems.
No Rest for the Best (YYZ)
This morning’s workout called on everyone to bring their A game (as they always should anyway…). It was the practice you could appropriately call the “Half Hour of Power.” Simply a case of, No Guts = No Glory. The test was on and you could see it in the eyes of everyone as it sunk in exactly what was being asked of them. Did NP YYZ rise to the challenge? Fuck Yeah!
Sun Salutation in the face of Rain (YYZ)
Another muggy Wednesday morning. The air was so thick that it was remarked how it seemed to negatively impact one’s ability to exercise; each breath doesn’t seem to reach deep enough. I wish I could blame the humidity on Michigan again (‘shakes fist anyway’) but alas we had a thunderstorm watch on the radar and when I woke up I debated wearing a ball cap just in case. Ultimately, the thought was fleeting as I forgot to put it on by the time I left, which indicates to me that, at my core, I gave zero fucks about rain being on my face.
Personal Bests and All the Rest……and this Blog has accidentally lived in “Draft” for daayyss :(
It was a somewhat muggy morning. The kind where you’re hoping the thickness in the air is just normal levels of humidity and not the smog wrapped in a strong north wind from Michigan……..thanks a lot, Michigan. No matter for NP YYZ though, the numbers were a record high and the tribe was showing their spirit in deeds not words. Two notables being Krizka and Derek; Krizka didn’t let a car accident a few days prior hold her back and pain, plus obvious discomfort, that is present after shoulder surgery caused late night insomnia for Derek, which led him to think, “Well, I’m not getting any needed rest anyway so I might as well go to NP.” Neither sat out at any time during the workout – thank you, troopers!
