“Go raibh míle maith agaibh”
Guh RAV mee-lə MAH a-guv
Literally this means “May you have a thousand goodnesses” in the Irish language (Gaeilge or Gaelic), but pretty much it means “Thanks a million”.
Over coffee this morning, we got onto conversation about Thanksgiving and what I think of it as a latecomer to this American celebration. I’m not going to lie, the day itself is pretty quality… A day off work. We’re focused on eating as much as physically possible. Spending time with those I hold dear. Did I mention several rounds of dessert? AWESOME as you guys say. Though I think we need to reiterate and remind ourselves to thank people and give gratitude a lot more all year long. Say thanks to your bus driver, your barista or your binmen. Say hello to strangers on the street more. Hold doors open for people even it takes that extra couple of seconds. Smile! Call your grandmother and ask her to tell you a story. Write a handwritten thank you note for someone. Bake someone cookies (Seriously, Mitch and those Buckeyes this morning!! LEGEND!). All these small minor little things that can make someone’s day and continue to strengthen our human to human interaction across this world.
