Go raibh míle maith agaibh (NPSF)

“Go raibh míle maith agaibh”
Guh RAV mee-lə MAH a-guv
Literally this means “May you have a thousand goodnesses” in the Irish language (Gaeilge or Gaelic), but pretty much it means “Thanks a million”.

Over coffee this morning, we got onto conversation about Thanksgiving and what I think of it as a latecomer to this American celebration. I’m not going to lie, the day itself is pretty quality… A day off work. We’re focused on eating as much as physically possible. Spending time with those I hold dear. Did I mention several rounds of dessert? AWESOME as you guys say. Though I think we need to reiterate and remind ourselves to thank people and give gratitude a lot more all year long. Say thanks to your bus driver, your barista or your binmen. Say hello to strangers on the street more. Hold doors open for people even it takes that extra couple of seconds. Smile! Call your grandmother and ask her to tell you a story. Write a handwritten thank you note for someone. Bake someone cookies (Seriously, Mitch and those Buckeyes this morning!! LEGEND!). All these small minor little things that can make someone’s day and continue to strengthen our human to human interaction across this world.

Here’s my thankfuls for today. I’m thankful for:

  • Community. Thankful for this Tribe, who wake at Early o’clock and sweat & sprint around the city with us every week (and also will readily follow us when we tell them to wake around Alta Plaza like a turkey). For BG, Bojan for coming up with this ludicrous November Project idea. For support and belief from partners like The North Face who believe in the impact this community can have on the cities around them.
  • Family. Being 8 time zones away from the rest of the O’Learys can be challenging at times. But they’re not all that far away anymore. I’m thankful that every week, I can video chat my toddler nieces and nephews and see how big they’re growing(from thousands of miles away) and look at my nephew Tom’s toes as he attempts to direct the camera phone at something. Also thankful for technology!!
  • The human body. Pretty amazing the runs, workouts and adventures we can go on our two feet, week in week out and recover from it all. Don’t forgot to give your body a little gratitude with a yoga sesh, a massage, a rest day, a rest week (I’m going for the rest month the rest of this year!!). It’s pretty amazing what we can do with our bodies, so let’s value that!
  • My fellow co-leaders, Laura & Zip. Over the last couple of years, I have learned so much from these two and continue to learn from them every week. So lucky to be able to stand in front of you hoodlums every week with two such close friends!
  • Ice cream. Well it’s ice cream. Enough said.
  • All of the fun shit we have coming up these next few weeks….

Friday, November 24th- Mt. Tam Summit- Since most people are off from work on Friday, we are taking this rare opportunity to summit Mount Tam as a tribe. We will be working off our turkey coma starting at 6 AM Friday, meeting at the Mountain Home Inn on Panoramic: https://goo.gl/maps/M7NvoCDsHWF2. You MUST have a headlamp for the 1.5 mile hike/jog up. Check the Google Doc for carpools.

December 6th- PM workout at AT&T Park- That’s right, we are hosting a workout at AT&T park with The North Face, called “Frost fit.” Which is hilarious because we don’t get frost. Combined with an afterparty at The Public House, this free event will be incredible. Grab your RSVP here: https://www.showclix.com/event/thenorthfacefrostfitsanfrancisco and share the Facebook event with all of your friends. We have 250 spots so let’s pack this stadium to the rafters!

December 9th- Presidio Park Restoration- On December 9th, we will be volunteering in the Presidio from 9AM-12 PM to help restore the trails we run on. They are anticipating 20-30 tribe members so please sign up on the google doc here and (gasp) COMMIT to join your tribe for some #NPGIVESBACK love. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OZdkmJVe1fL0FId7OZ9xld3qg3u64YeamrokI0JrQ1A/edit?usp=sharing

If you cannot make it on the 9th but would still love to donate items for the month of December, we will be doing a large collection on December 13th for The Family House: http://familyhouseinc.org/. A list of items we are collecting will go out later this week!

  1. I am in the Boston tribe and it’s so cool to see Irish in your article! I started learning to speak it in May… not easy considering the 3 main dialects. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
