Hand Shakes and Slow Dances (PHL)

So as you can probably tell from the title of this blog…it was just another regular workout here at NP PHILLY.  The workout itself was pretty standard NP fare – mountain climbers, burpees, push-ups, hills.  I won’t bore you with these details…

However the spice included partners creating a handshake…a greeting that partners would perform when they passed each other on their hill repeats.  These ranged from serious sorority sister handshakes to grossly inappropriate.  You get the picture. read more

TAG, YOU’RE IT! (PHL)

TAG YOU’RE IT!

Today on Lemon Hill we played a massive game of TAG.  Custom tagged pinnies identified the person who was IT.  The Tribe ran a closed circuit in the grass.  People did burpees, squats and hopped police barriers strategically placed on course…

While sweat dripping humidity hung heavy at the early morning workout, the Tribe was resilient and ran their asses off.  Afterward, we had a limbo competition for which NO ONE successfully completed…these barriers were low. read more

We Missed You DEB (PHL)

Dinner en Blanc.  Have you heard about it?  It’s the secret location, white party, where people get gussied up in their finest linen pants and white dresses to shlep across the city with furniture, food and booze.  This year’s secret location landed right on our door step. Yes, the PMA.  Naturally a few of our own were out for the festivities.  In fact Jalshy, as judged by her snapchat over the past two months, basically runs the entire operation. That’s neither here nor there.  DEB went off without a hitch, social media was ablaze with photos and video of white-clad 20 and 30 somethings pouring over front steps of the Art Museum.  Rosè was flowing from the fountains and it looks like good times were had.  The times were apparently so good that a few of our own couldn’t pry themselves out of bed this morning for the workout.  I won’t name you individually (because there are so many) but you know who you are.  Though it should also be noted that few brave party goers DID make it out this morning. We had a great time this morning- running hills, connecting and cheering one another on, but unfortunately you will never know. We celebrated a soon-to-be-bride, Julia and Dan’s passing of the #HardHatAward to Lexi. We hope that 6th bottle of Two Buck Chuck went down well….But we just wanted to let you know, WE MISSED YOU!

hot hot fuego (PHL)

Well today is hot.  Not like, “ah, summer it’s kinda hot” hot.  More like furnace, earth scorching heat with humidity that makes even the most thrill-seeking adventurers think twice about leaving the comfort of AC.

Rarely at 6:00 AM does it feel like 90 degrees and 1000% humidity.  This morning was one of those times.  #Weatherproof is a real thing, even in the summer months.  Thanks to all who hydrated up and joined this morning, it wasn’t an easy one.  Speaking of hot…we were graced with the presence of a couple characters this AM.  First we had Kris “Sister City” Utt, the fearless co-leader of NP_VB.  The dude is pure speed and sex appeal.  Next, we had John Combs aka Speedy Johnzales.  This guy just thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail (yeah, 2,200+ miles).  You can reach either one of these guys through your preferred social media outlet. read more

Hills.Weekend.Social (PHL)

Bounce. Hills. Squats. Situps. Hardhat. Photo.

Ok, now that we got this morning’s recap out of the way…onto the important stuff.  You’ve been asking and we’ve been listening.  MORE SOCIAL EVENTS.  Next Wednesday we will workout, as usual, at 6:25 AM at the Art Museum…12 hours later at 6:25 PM we will meet at the Spruce Street Harbor Park for libations and socializing.  Don’t worry if you can’t make it on time, we aren’t as strict about time requirements at socials.  It will be a great time to chat with fellow Tribemembers and get some time to connect outside of our hurried morning workouts.  Hope to see you there! read more

Amanda and Gary Lead the Herd (7/15/2016)

Thank you Amanda and Gary for stepping in and stepping up to lead the Tribe in our absence.  We knew the Tribe would be in good hands.  Sorry for the delay in posting — poor internet up North and hangovers may have contributed to the tardiness.  Read more about this past Friday in their own words… read more

And Then There Were Three (PHL)

Two-and-a-half years ago we started working out in Philadelphia.  A few months later we were formally recognized as a November Project Tribe.  Through the hot and cold, wet and dry, bright and dark, we trained, connected, hugged and most importantly SHOWED UP for ourselves and one another.  Fast forward to today…the Tribe is friendly, the Tribe is vibrant, the Tribe is STRONG.  Beyond the numbers or attention,  the two greatest points of pride for me is our consistency and the connections forged.  In these past two-and-a-half years, we have not cancelled, postponed or called off a single workout for any reason.  There is something special about knowing that on a Wednesday or Friday morning, if you pull your ass out of bed, you can find a workout, some big hugs and an army of cheerleaders to encourage you along the way. read more

RED WHITE BLUE 4TH WEEKEND (PHL)

The Tribe was clad in their red, white and blue to celebrate this beautiful and fragile experiment we call the American democracy.  It was magical.  It was loud.  It was sweaty.

We took it to the grass and partnered off — push-ups, sit-ups, planks, burpees and running laps.  Let us also not forgot the cowbell ring signaling a group spring to the distant tree.  We topped off this juicy workout with some spicy dijon sprints.  Not sure where that came from but I was set on working in a grilling reference. read more

Figure Eights & Firedrills (PHL)

There’s really only one word to describe this morning’s weather: perfect.  And maybe one more word to describe this morning’s vibe: infectious.  The bounce. The hugs. The sweat.

After suicides on the steps we did a 30 minute figure-8 circuit which included lower, core and upper body workouts and finished with a 15 minute fire-drill burnout running the stairs only stopping to do burpees…things got intense. read more
