We Are Community

NPSD

Many of us had long nights tracking history. Some of us woke up saying, “what the fuck?” Some of us woke up saying, “hell yes!” But let’s all remember that we all woke up.

Whether you’ve “won” or “lost,” you’re bigger than a “winner” or a “loser.” Because at the end of the day, we’re all one big community. We’re not defined by one person – our legacies are defined by the connections we make and the impact we have on others. This morning, our workout was designed to remind everyone of that. Red or Blue (or other), we hugged and high-fived, and for that hour, it wasn’t about our differences. read more

Make Love… And War?

NPSD

War? Huh… What is it good for?

Well, it’s pretty good for splitting the group up between two different loops at the workout.

Another rad morning here at NPSD. It’s been really cold out lately. But despite the dangerously low temperatures, we endure and show the rest of the world that we’re indeed still weatherproof. Or was it spoof? I digress. read more

Substitute Teachers

NPSD

Today was a good day. We’ve had babysitters in the past, but we like to think we gave it a spin that brings a fresh perspective to the meaning of “tribe.” Plus we got to celebrate a couple of NPSD weddings happening this weekend!

NPSD

Today at NPSD, we let three of our amazing core tribe members step up, rally the rest of the tribe, and lead the workout. read more

Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better.

NPSD

IT’S PR DAY! And we can tell, just by the numbers. There’s something about PR day that people dread.

Tell me this – do you work harder on PR days than any other given Monday or Wednesday? You shouldn’t. Do you think that you shouldn’t show up if you don’t think you’ll be able to PR? You shouldn’t. Are you afraid that not hitting a PR means you haven’t made any progress in the past month? You shouldn’t. read more

Happy Birthday, Us!

NPSD

Today we celebrated our 3rd Birthday as a tribe. And for our guest blog, we asked someone near and dear to the tribe who’s been there since the beginning. So, without further ado, Tom Dorio!

NPSD

Happy 3rd birthday NPSD! We should get you a gift, but we know what you really want for your birthday. You want US to just show up. read more

Mind the Cacti

Another crazy morning here at NPSD.

  • Mark Ledesma got stabbed by a cactus, so that happened.
  • We didn’t have people sign waivers.
  • We got a new tribe member named BG. Wait, what? He’s been here before? Oh ok, it’s just been 7 months since he’s been in San Diego.
  • I got a good photo through Angelo’s thigh gap, so I hope Ashleigh posts that.
  • And we had to relocate our decks of cards because the lawn mower insisted on mowing the .27″ tall grass where we were comfortably doing hip thrusts…

A lot happened this morning, and the vibes were strong. Tough workout hitting our favorite zig-zag hill and cacti loops, not to mention MORE COWBELL. And you guys put in some solid work on a brief Angelo’s-abs-by-Eugene burnout. Just remember, Angelo, just because you have 17 abs, doesn’t mean you can skip the burnout. read more

Welcome (back) to the Jungle!

NPSD

Some of you may remember. Many of you may not (and that’s OK). But “Welcome to the Jungle” was the title of our first blog post at Balboa Park. And the workout was reminiscent of just how brutal that first one was… I’ll just borrow an excerpt from the first post written by the one and only Lauren Padula: read more

Hey! You like Music?

NPSD

Welp. You gon’ dun it again, tribe. Another epic morning in the books. Can I get a HUMP DAYYYYYYY?!

For the first time in a long time, we took it over to the Organ Pavilion. The musical kind. And boy was this workout HARD. No hills, no stairs, no crazy grind. Just good ol’ fashion speedwork, burpees, inchworm pushups, lunges. ANd wrapping it up with 5 minutes of Abs By Angelo. How many packs do I have? Still one? Fuck. read more

Hills, Burpees, Ocean, and A PSA About Community

NPSD

New month, new location. And damn did we crush that location.

The crew impressively crushed that beast of a hill, busted out what seemed to feel like 1,000 burpees, and ran into the water like we were born in the Pacific.

And there’s also history and a significance to Tourmaline Surfing Park – it’s a place that honors past and present surfers who have embraced the beach, surf, and camaraderie of the surfing community. Yet, the funny thing about community is how sometimes it can feel exclusive and territorial. Many know that surfers can be territorial. Locals can feel threatened when people just show up to shake up their way of life, get in their way, or inconvenience routine just a little bit. read more

Stay weird. But do work.

NPSD

For all the weird shit we do, we put in some work.

That’s what makes this tribe special. We have that SoCal cool, we-don’t-give-a-fu*k attitude. So we can laugh at ourselves and do fucking weird shit, like gyrate in place to open up those hips, stretch your jaw to prevent some major lockjaw while you’re grinding up some hills, and or give each other uncomfortable hugs… read more
