A Soft Story from Hard Diego

Today’s blog comes from Dawn. You all know her. But what you don’t know is her journey to where she is today.

There’s something about surrounding yourself with positive energy that really shifts your perception of reality – what you value in life, what you’re looking for, and sometimes even who you are. That’s why we hug each other. That’s why we smile at strangers and high-five them. And occasionally we’ll give you their phone numbers and tell you to send them selfies during the day (BTW, send your selfies. And keep them SFW, please). read more

Potential

Today was obviously great.  It always is when we all show up.  When everyone gives it their all.  When we get to play games from our childhood like hide and seek.  When we smile and laugh before 7am.  When you make new friends and hug strangers.  This is why NP is great.

But what is it that makes life great?  Or you and I great? Maybe its POTENTIAL. I overheard a conversation the other day, see below: “We should choose her because she has so much potential.” “Definately not.  Never go off of potential because it is not a sure thing.” The two different ideas about potential got me thinking.  I have come to conclusion that I hate the second response. I think without believing in the potential we ourselves or others poses we lose hope, motivation and goal setting. Each and everyone of you have so much potential, both mentally and physically.  Set high goals and never settle.  Have hope that you and others can make this world a better place.  Stay motivated in your endeavors and be a motivator for others. November Project is already amazing because every week we all show up. But I believe potentially NP can be better and that slowly we have already started to make the community we live in better too.  And possibly the world. Believe in your potential.  Know you have the spirit of a worldwide tribe behind you. Be Bright, SD, Ashleigh

    Eugene Says…

    NPSD

    … to read this blog.

Things heard at the workout today:

NPSD“I’m not a morning person.” Said at the crest of a sit-up before 7 AM.

“This is my first time, and I’ll see you next week.”

“I want it to look like I’m giving birth to Padula.”

“Ok, I’m done.” Said at the base of the stone steps right before sprinting all the way up, down the dirt path, and up the concrete stairs all the way to the grass. read more

    ‘NUFF SAID

    NPSD

Today’s guest post is by someone who we all know and love. She may not be the fastest or loudest, but damn does she have a heart. I’ve been inspired by her ever since she started coming to November Project. She’s always told us she’s not a runner, but after that first 5k, then the next one, then the next… this girl doesn’t know what it means to give up. She wrote a letter to us that she was kind enough to let us share. read more

    I’m an asshole

    NPSD

As we wrap up a recruiting month and recall our November Project stories, I wanted to reiterate a point that Ash made in her post last week – there are so many November Project stories out there. And while you can say they’re a dime a dozen, there’s one common thread that you can pull through all of them – November Project changes lives. read more

    A one-city story turned into a movement.

    NPSD

If you didn’t show up this morning, you missed out. Period. Ashleigh, Angelo, and I woke up at 2 AM and went on an adventure to make today extra special… by way of a snowball fight… in Balboa Park… in San Diego. #adultrecessNPSD

And we also took today’s festivities as an opportunity to talk about something bigger than our one city – the world takeover that is November Project. read more

    Grabbin’ Life by the Balls

    NPSD

In our second installment of Substitute Teachers, we had three badass ladies lead the workout and give us a lesson in grabbing life by the balls. Read the blog post by one of our sitters, Fiona Buckley.

NPSDAs the day came closer and closer to where Antonette, Vicky and I were supposed to step in and babysit for NPSD, I thought back to a year ago when I first met Brogan Graham at a barbershop. I had just crossed the street to get some money out of an ATM when I thought to myself , “I really want to find a group of people that are passionate about working out and that pump each other up”. That’s when I passed the Crossfit gym on Turquoise St. and boy am I glad I kept walking. If I had stopped in and checked out the gym, I would have missed Brogan getting on his bike. I had noticed his shin tattoo while getting my haircut and I was curious. So I asked him about it. He asked me about my undercut. I told him I wanted to get back into shape. The rest is pretty self-explanatory. read more

LAST PR DAY OF 2016! Yeah, the group was a little thinner, but those who showed up? Well they SHOWED UP!

    NPSD

Every PR day is inspirational – watching people grind their way to the top of that hill while still catching a breath to say “good job,” “let’s go,” and slamming high-fives and patting each other on the backs. Because at the end of the day, it’s a hard workout, but the community is why we show up, right? read more

What’s a workout without a little chaos, friendly competition, and redemption?

My roommate, training partner, and dearest endorfriend, Jenna, had a vision… A vision of two tribe factions charging each other, screaming blood-curdling screams at the top of their lungs, and clashing into each other in incredible Rock-Paper-Scissor glory. read more

    NPSD Turkey Trot

This morning, NPSD raced our annual Turkey Trot. It’s basically a 5k in that it’s a 5k that we race. So it’s a 5k.

NPSDBut no, you’re not here to ask about the workout. You don’t care that we had 3 people wearing turkey hats and gobbling at the start line. You don’t care that we had a group that warranted 4 heats. You don’t care that we had 5 people run back to run in the final few who were finishing up the 5k. You don’t care how fucking HUGE our cheer tunnel was. You don’t care that someone gave me a whole pumpkin pie, which I promptly regifted. read more
